Oh come now, no facepalms were necessary with those comments. ;) Just don't show Bingo's comment to Anthony Daniels.

Seriously, about Anthony Daniels, in the "Bring Back...Star Wars" special, he really seems to come off as a guy who thinks he's a great actor. (and bigger than those old Star Wars films) I cannot say if he is or not, not having seen him in anything else. Has anyone here seen him in other things? Is he any good with drama and such? Can he play a bad guy convincingly?

He has played a variety of roles on British television rather well but he is always undeniably Anthony Daniels.

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

I quite like the idea of the Sith doing this dance of death with each other (it's one of the few prequel ideas I liked).

The apprentice always seeking a chance to overthrow his master with the aid of a young apprentice and the master always trying to hold onto power via the same mechanism makes for a very delicately balanced relationship which could go one for a very long time.

It would have been very easy for Lucas to have just match thousands of Jedi against thousands of Sith but he (un-characteristically) pulled back from that, and a lot of fan expectations to give us something more subtle and diplomatically elegant.

That and using a fake war working from both sides to weaken the Republic and give rise to the Empire were far too intelligent to be in the movies we actually got.

And the good thing about Ady's reworked dialogue is that it doesn't beat the audience over the head with that subtle concept.

The DVD version is like a comedian working out the most clever joke in the world only to spend several minutes explaining the punchline and destroying the impact.

sounds daft, but i always assumed (before ROTS) that the emperor was just old and ugly in ROTJ, not alien, not facially corrupted by evil, just OLD. i mean he has to be in his 60s in ROTS, so mid to late 80s in ROTJ right?

Sure that would account for some of his look, but not all of it, the eyes, the skin and the strange forehead are not a sign of him just being old.

The Dark Side eating away at him would account for the rest much better than the Force lightning thing which never effected anyone else that bad (Luke gets several full blasts, Palpatine gets no more than he does and it's reflected so presumably weakened. Why then isn't Luke all saggy?).

Back in the day I thought he might be very, very old (200 or something) which now doesn't chime with the prequels as we see them (unless there is a Dorian Gray aspect to his use of the Force which was somehow broken in his conflict with Mace).

If that's the case then perhaps he could go part the way there during his battle with Mace (because he is having to divert his strength to the battle) and the rest could be revealed with a more subtle morph effect to create a more of a Mr Hyde transformation than stupid effect we saw in ROTS.

If it's a mask it would be better to see it slip off incrementally than all at once.

Perhaps someone should do a casting search for a Mark Hamill look-a-like for additional shots.

While we are on the subject of Lynchian Star Wars :

"One chance out between two worlds, lightning walk with me" :

Dark Side Of The Lodge

Seriously though a deep red throne room might look more interesting (it would match his guards) anyone want to give it a try?

Looks a bit talk show-ish to me...

THE TONIGHT SHOW WITH EMPEROR PALPATINE!

Shouldn't that be "ENITAPLAP ROREPME HTIW WOHS THGINOT EHT!" ?

Forget the background features for a minute though and look at how that vibrant red really brings out the hideousness of those features. It could work (though Vader's blade might get a little lost in there).

The ANH:SE Redux Ideas thread (Radical Ideas Welcome).

It would be the Skywalker saga if we were allowed to see what happened to Luke and Leia (and her children) after ROTJ but Lucas in insisting that is the final episode has made it into the Anakin Saga (or as Lucas put it with Vader dead "There's no more story to tell").

When watching ANH back in the day it felt like there was a much bigger story extending way back into the past, way back into the future and with more going on in the present than we were seeing on screen (just like the real world).

I've allowed myself to wander way off topic so sorry about that.

Perhaps someone should start a sequel trilogy project thread.

Don't forget the relationship between droid and non-droid in the Star Wars universe is one of slavery.

Threepio and Artoo are well liked (one the whole) by their owner/masters but they are not considered much more than property.

Unless someone writes a droid Spartacus storyline into Episodes VII through to IX they (and the Clonetroopers) are slaves and would never be given medals (even by the so called good guys).

Oh, I remember that all too well. In my eyes, though, R2-D2 and C-3PO have proven themselves to be more equals with people than any other droid has. True, they needed masters to care for them in order to continue to function. But their masters needed them just as much, especially in ROTJ when 3PO used his translation abilities to communicate with the Ewoks and convinced to aid the Rebels.

Sure that's how we are meant to see them but the fact that our heroes don't paints them in a slightly less than glossy white than some people believe.

I wish we did get a sequel trilogy which explored what happens to the Rebels once they win.

Ben looks back at the Old Republic as a golden age but when we see it in TPM we find that the rot had already set in before Palpatine starts working the system.

Project ROTJ into the future and will the good guys still be the good guys if they allow slavery (droid and non-droid) to continue and what do you do with Death Star technology once someone had built a couple of them, what do you do with the Stormtroopers (I know that the EU tells us they stopped being clones but as far as the films go they are slaves too)?

Will Luke's Jedi be as hamstrung by dogma as the Jedi in his father's day?

Will Leia go as bad as her dad?

There is plenty of ground to cover in a sequel trilogy, Lucas is possibly not the guy to do it though.

He's rejigged the story so it's all about Anakin.

He might as well stop calling it Star Wars and just call it The Anakin Saga.

Ebay can go very, very wrong sometimes.

I had one guy who refused to post an item because I lived a £7 train journey away from his brother, who he said could just hand the item over (the postage costs were about £1).

Another guy claimed the item was posted and then that it was lost in the post and then that he was his sister and he had died suddenly and when he sold the item on again, left sarcastic comments (back from the dead) about me when I gave him negative feedback.

could he use the force and manipulate it to go like boomerang like in super star wars return of the jedi?

One of the problems with TPM is it's action sequences already resemble a computer game.

The duel particularly so with all those pointless platforms and shield gates, it's a real shame that there was no dialogue in there either, surely the Jedi would want to know more about this mysterious attacker.

If Maul used the Force to throw his sabre around what's stopping the Jedi from using the Force to snatch it off him?

There are two of them and one of him.

Some weird forest plants like these my give Endor a more fantastic feel.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUdpFN4O4B0&feature=related

Further to my comments about Jabba's Palace, I'm not sure if it sits well with the idea of the Hutts being gangster's if he literally has a palace in a Royal sense.

It turns Jabba into a government within a government (Tatooine may not have been part of the Republic but by ANH it's clearly part of the Empire).

What if it's his lair and general residence but slightly undercover as a legitimate business, more like Caesar's Palace in Vegas than Caesar's Palace in ancient Rome.

It could have casinos, brothels, and bars.

The Rancor and Sarlacc pits could be entertainments and more vehicles (small like swoop bikes and medium sized schooners could afford his guests a better view) when they take their trip out to the Dune Sea.

Desert Schooner

It would tie into a culture that has pod racing too.

It could open up the Jabba scenes more and bring Tatooine back to the sort of world we saw in ANH.

Luke, Owen and Biggs were more concerned with the Empire than any ruling Hutt clans so it makes more sense if the Hutts are reduced to operating on the fringes of Tatooine society.

Thx Impfighter you reminded me an idea i had.

As i see in Ady's video he added a camera shake when the SDs are colliding..

But!

It supposed to be shaking in the bridge not the outside.

So with a bit work can keep the SD in the outside intact.

I ve made this test:

Dont judge the shaking, i just put it to show my idea ;)

The idea makes sense (if it is done with more subtlety but you know that already).

in the phantom menace could a scene be incoporated of maul throwing his saber at obi or qui-gon?

It could be done but I'm not sure if a Sith Lord would chuck his weapon around in a battle with two Jedi in their prime.

When Vader threw his sabre at Luke it was two Sith against one inexperienced Jedi, with the tables turned there would be a bit of a risk of Maul not getting his rattle back.

Then he would have to resort to spikey headbutts.

Wouldn't it just be easier (for Palpatine not for us) to blow up the temple with most of the celebrating Jedi inside it.

Imagine that huge structure coming down and the chaos in streets.

Palpatine could blame it on Rebel Senators who were backing the Seperatists.

Heaven's knows how it could be done but it would be very cinematic.

He could then cover up the Jedi purge by saying he is really fighting a Rebel Alliance.

Well you could always take a pic of Padme and show some kind of visual that alludes to tragic outcome, but in a clever way that would only become apparent later.

Like have a "vision" where Anakin walks up to Shmi and tries to grab onto her but she shatters into shards of glass.

it doesn't have to look photoreal at all.

If you have any prequel vision ideas please post them on the other thread unless they have a part to play in an ESB or ROTJ edit but maybe something in the prequel dream could act as a trigger for Vader killing Palpatine. I suggested earlier adding the neckless he made as a boy into the sequence but maybe a little bit of the ROTJ scene could be in the Padme dream, seeding the breaking point for Vader earlier in the saga.

It would be a better way of doing the same thing.

I also had the idea of Leia running off to save Han from Jabba before Luke was ready some time back, this too could have been prompted by a vision she had but I have no idea of how to put that information on the screen.

Dreams and Flashbacks are not Star wars. I hope ady will get rid them once and for all :)

It worked well in AOTC. We never see his mother.

Actually I've just commited the heresy of suggesting re-doing the visions in the prequels in the style of Luke's encounter in the cave over on the Radical Prequel Redux thread.

As I said the problem wasn't the dreams it was the clip show nature of them.

If someone could do a proper dream sequence like those that David Lynch does (and it works naturally) I'm all for it.

I remember as a kid finding the vision in the cave one of the most interesting bits of ESB.

Sure it doesn't have to be done but in a way the cave dream was a premonition not only of what Luke could become but what his father once was and had become and would soon reveal (it could be argued by some but not me, that the cave sequence could go too).

If something like that could be done with Anakin's mum and Padme (it could even be the same sequence that he only fully understands when Padme says something in ROTS) It might save the idea.

But I too don't like the idea of clips as flashbacks or flashforwards (doing a Godfather 2 film set is one thing but tacking on bits is something else and though it worked in Babylon 5 it doesn't really feel right in Star Wars).

Sometimes less is more, sometimes less is less, sometimes more is more.

The trick is to start out with more than you need and trim down until the story feels right.

So if someone can come up with a watchable approximation of an erstwhile lost scene I'm interested because that adds more options, it's not like Lucasfilm is going to open up the vaults and allow every element of these films out so we can work on them.

That's not the same thing as putting up lots of expositional dialogue and calling it story.

Some of the greatest pieces of cinema storytelling have had hardly any (if any, in the case of the silent era) dialogue.

It's also not the same as sticking every idea that pops into your head on screen just because you can.

However some edits (professional or amateur) don't quite work because there just isn't enough of the right material to fill in the gaps left when you take away the wrong material.

I remember back around the time of TPM some magazine carried a picture of a plain steel looking Fett helmet and armour which (like Jengo) had no dings or dents in it. No paint just shiny metal.

Did I dream it or does anyone else remember what I'm talking about?

On a different note it kind of came up over in the ESB/ROTJ wishlist thread so I'm going to post it here.

A lot of people don't like the dreams/flashforwards/visions in ROTS and feel they are out of place in the Star Wars universe.

At the risk of being branded a heretic, the cave sequence in ESB is a form of dream/vision but it's done in a completely different way.

If we saw Anakin's dreams of his mother and Padme in a more stylised and dreamlike manner with symbolism and ambiguity (rather than just a clipshow with a wobbly distortion) like Luke's vision of his head inside Vader's mask would that be more acceptable?

I seem to remember that in the novelisation of AOTC Anakin dreamt of his mother turning into glass and shattering (or was that somewhere else?).

These could become mini-projects in their own right.

How could they be done?

It's our chance to put a bit of David Lynch into Star Wars all those years after he turned down ROTJ.

it wouldnt?

there is alot of sound clips and stuff
i mean from yodas hut you could use some clips from there

It's not just the sound though, it's the vision too and it has to flow as a story and not feel forced, there might be some trimmings here and there but they would have to match up with all the other elements.

But if you can figure out a way to get it to work I would genuinely love to see it (as would a lot of people).

If you have the means try a rough cut of it yourself and the idea has legs there are people on here who would help you take it further.
