The Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread
Time

I wish this scene had made the final cut of AOTC, poor Beru only gets to say "Hello" in the whole PT (I think it's beyond restoration):

BERU: What's it like there?

PADMÉ: I'm sorry?

BERU: On Naboo... What's it like?

PADMÉ is completely preoccupied with her concern for ANAKIN, but she does her best to reply.

PADMÉ: Oh - It's... very green. With lots of water. And trees. Not like here at all.

She takes out a tray and starts to put food on it.

BERU: I think I like it here better.

PADMÉ: Maybe you'll come and see it one day.

BERU: I don't think so. I don't like to travel.

They finish preparing the tray.

PADMÉ: (smiles) Thanks, Beru.

The lighting display change in AOTC is very subtle (ironically in a film full of so much ugly brashness) and adds a little bit of movement to a suitably unremarkable set so I'm not against it.

It's not like changing the OT Yoda into a CGI creation to match the prequels and having Ben do cartwheels while fighting Vader in fact it's more like changing the existing in-universe computer graphics to look more like the models and less like discarded prepoduction designs.

Like all things, it's a question of balance.

If someone did it and it didn't stick out like a sore thumb I wouldn't mind.

I doubt if everything would be the same in the garage after almost two decades, but it would be nice as I mentioned earlier if some of the lights were to operate in the same way and that wouldn't be too difficult to animate.

I don't think that people should be put off from suggesting the seemingly impossible as someone might find a way around such problems (though I don't see the change as important).

In that vein, I personally would love the Imperials to get ESB style haircuts, a real bugger to do convincingly but if someone could pull it off it would make them seem more cold and miltaristic, leaving the long hair to the Rebels (hairstyle cliches are a permissible form of character shorthand in my book).

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

If you look at the film they clearly land in the morning, the sun is pretty much up when Threepio is shot, it's blazing sunlight when they meet Vader and dusk when they escape.

Even if they spent more than one day on Bespin I don't think Lando would keep them in customs for 10hrs.

That is the big problem (especially if someone was going to try this in HD) most of the characters and most of the surfaces are very reflective and there is a big splash of red which bounces everywhere.

It's not something that can be altered by a batch process and each frame would need a lot of work done to it and it would take an age to do (though some frames are easier to do than others).

But I think it would be worth it if someone had the patience.

One thing I'd like to see looked at is the amount of wobble in Vader's moves (especially when strangling the Rebel guy).

I'm not saying that being Vader is a wobble free life style but it does distract from the general might of the guy to have him seem to strain like that.

I imagine the armour in ESB was a bit lighter because Dave seemed to have a real problem getting around first time around.

Back to the red, the Empire really did go to town on that room :

hans olof, I agree with almost every point you added (though the pedant in me has to point out that Forest Battle is not a song).

I'm in two minds about Lando's exclaimation of joy because I still want him to DIE!!!!.

Han makes almost the same sound in ANH and all he did in that battle was turn up at the last minute and fire one shot (and for that he gets the same medal that Luke gets???).

Lando on the other hand has helped plan the battle, made major decisions leading to the survival of the fleet and was well in the thick of it before plunging into the heart of the battlestation and out the other side (in this version) so I think he earned his moment of cheer more than Han did.

I was thinking something along those lines when the idea of putting it into ROTJ came into my head, it's very dark (persumably to hide the lack of a set) even in that mock up I had to fiddle with a lot of wonky matte elements and remove some nasty red shadows.

I would be interested on how you would make a small gun interior both for this thread and the After Ady ANH one.

As I said it's all over the place in terms of vagueness as to where that place is and where all the elements sit.

Sure, that wouldn't be hard to do. Funny that it sort of annoys me when the prequels make something from the OT look better. It makes me want to make the OT look slicker than they do, when for 20 years I never cared about these little things.

And as much as I like to see more believable console displays etc, they just don't feel like they're in the right movie.

You know, watching Star Wars again today I decided there is one change that I just have to make. This is purely personal taste, and there is no need for it to be done, but I have always hated the red walls in the Death Star control room where they go after sneaking off the Falcon. I will try to turn them grey or black. I hate that red. :-)

As always please forgive the crudity of this mock-up :

Return of the Jedi Jabba's Palace Musical Number Recut
Time

As vbangle says it's a lot better than the 97/04 version but the music doesn't fit the scene and the CGI is still a mess (as were the original puppets).

The idea of a musical number, in my view, just doesn't work.

It worked in the ANH Cantina because the band were in the background and fitted the setting.

Here there is clearly some sort of exotic (in Jabba's eyes) dance routine going on, so the music should match that sort of style (arabesque burlesque not disco) the band should be hardly seen and the dancers should take centre stage.

My views on that are posted here: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/ESB-and-ROTJ-Wishlist/post/361058/#post361058

As for this cut, to get it to work better it needs a few sounds added to the score to match things like the background singers and the percussion.

The shots of the little lizard with the flute thing need to be cued up to the equivalent sounds on the tune.

But otherwise a really nice attempt to get rid of the worst excesses of the SE version (no tonsils, Yay!).

It might be nice to post this stab on the wishlist thread as well as that has been going for a lot longer and may last longer as a thread and serve as an inspiration to others.

It would be fun to mix some of these Marvel comic cover scenarios and dialogue into the actual film:

Actually, "Star Wars: Redubbed" might be a WHOLE LOT of FUN. Like that one Woody Alen film whose name eludes me, or "Kung Pow." But to keep it centered, I'd keep a few characters (probably Obi, Aunt Beru, and Leia) as their normal voices, just for contrast. Couple that with Cockney Artoo and subtitled Chewie, this could be extremely silly.

And also, every time a lightsiber ignites, there should be a power chord and a high pitched heavy-metal scream (I'm thinking ManOWar!)

What's Up, Tiger Lilly? (perhaps)

CLOUDCITY CARBON FREEZING CHAMBER :

LEIA : "I love you"

HAN : "You love me?"

LEIA : "I truly, deeply love you, and before we die I want you to know."

HAN : "I hate steam, it gets in your hair, it makes your eyes water, everything here is so steamy my eyes are watery now."

LEIA : "Me too. I wish I had held you on Hoth, held you so hard that we froze together, stuck in one moment of time"

HAN : "I will soon be frozen but when I am unfrozen I will be a stronger man, I will have the power to stop people from freezing and stop steam, I promise you!"

LEIA : "Vader Stop this! You are breaking my heart."
