The ANH:SE Redux Ideas thread (Radical Ideas Welcome).

One thing that could do with a visual clarification is what stuctures are the big sit-down guns firing from.

Nothing that we see (or at least that I can remember) fit those really nice live action shots in terms of the outer architecture (those guns seem more in keeping with a large capital ship like the ones in ROTS.

We see the automated gun turrets and we see a lot of laser fire but not where it's coming from.

We also know that the stuctures holding those guns are vulnerable to fighter fire as they get hit, so it would be nice to get a general idea of where they are.

Hullo,

I was wondering about something that perhaps could be changed, when Luke, Obi and the droids drive/float (whatever :p ) into Mos Eisley there are 4 stomtroopers just as they enter the city, 2 on each side of the street.

The things is that the ones you see on the right side of the street are just a copy of those on the left side, you see this as one of the troopers turns his head to look at an alien or something, on the right side the trooper dxoes the same at the exact same time, but looking at nooting.

They were added to the special edition, perhaps one of then can be moved, deleted or made not to turn his head?

I find that annoying too perhaps someone should attempt something along those lines.

I too noticed a problem with the shot when I was playing with it.

Either the viewport is very close to them and small, which makes the gun very small indeed and strangely inside the window, or the officers are on a platform far away from a very big open space (like a docking bay) and the gun is much bigger.

It's really difficult to make out as there is no detail to establish which is correct (it's very dark which doesn't really fit into the design ethic of the Tantive but that doesn't rule it out).

I thought the port was situated in the bottom of the Star Destroyer hanger frame or the smaller forward hanger as they seem to get a downward view of the escape pod but the Tantive isn't visible but that does pose the question of where the planet is.

If that is the case being a space ship it doesn't make my mock-up impossible (indeed in the battle of Endor we see an 'upside down' Star Destroyer) but it would buck the general trend of having Star Destroyers pointing bridge side up (relative to the camera).

The head bumping Stormtrooper could become the Jar-Jar of the OT, constantly causing havoc switching off the tractor beam (before Ben gets a chance to), shutting the blast doors while other troopers are still inside cutting them in half, all the time bragging how great he is and gossiping about trival events in his life (like the stormies in Jedi Outcast). At the end of ANH he could accidently stumble into an escape pod meant for Tarkin and survive to continue his buffoonery in the whole OT.

The Dianoga (in obvious CGI) could make random appearences around the station pulling background characters through vents without anyone else noticing.

Wow, just wow. You guys are too funny. I love doubleofive's forced subtitles for Chewie and R2 idea, but I love TheBoost's cockney idea just as much. Maybe these aren't mutually exclusive. The accent could be so thick and full of cockney slang that it needs subtitles just to understand it.

Exactly!  You know that R2 is told to watch his language a few times, maybe he swears all the time.  Even if 3PO directly translates what he's saying ("He says that he's found her and keeps repeating she's here") 3PO could be editing R2 for content, if you know what I'm saying.

Along those lines everytime Threepio speaks to Artoo or Han speaks to Chewie they could do it in their languages (with subtitles).

Harrision speaking Wookiee would be a giggle.

Loving the headstones, they would be very useful if Star Wars Reborn was revived (basically the idea for that edit was to merge the prequels and the OT together in the style of Godfather II to keep all the surprises intact)http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Star-Wars-REBORN-The-Complete-Saga/topic/6871/. That way you could have Luke passing by the headstones in the ANH footage and find out there significance in the AOTC footage) Asteroid-Man is attempting something similar http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Star-Wars-Renascent-WORK-COPY-AVAILABLE-FOR-DOWNLOAD/topic/9653/.

It would certainly be a nice nod to saga continuity to have it in ANH proper.

That would be one of the kludges I mentioned earlier, it doesn't fully remove the dialogue and it also effects the surrounding soundtrack but it might be possible to massage it beyond the point of annoyance.

I wouldn't want this thread to be too side-lined with that sort of thing though because there are obviously people here keen to play with the possibilites of voice characterisation and I was just suggesting a mini-project for people to experiment on if they want to.

Trapping the wild creatures of Endor could provide a new interesting weapon for the Ewoks to use (recyling the Wampa subplot for a new version of Jedi).

Personally I'd prefer the Ewoks to have been fighting the Empire but if those traps were for keeping predators at bay, turning those predators against their new enemy would be a nice re-use of dropped concept from ESB.

Yup! Pretty much everything ChainsawAsh posted chimes with what I was saying.

It's really difficult (possibly impossible) to create a dialogue free track without all the source materials but there are a few cheats and kludges to get around the problem, which is why I ended my post with that comment.

I'm just interested in various approaches people may come up with.

The problem there is you have so little to build a stealthy raid of a well armed fortress with and it isn't the sort of story the dialogue suggests.

The story as it stands is a trap which backfires on the trapper due to vectors not deemed worthy of consideration (specifically the Ewoks and Lando).  It's more like the end of Dune where the uncounted, supposed savages topple every arm of an advanced Empire by their familarity with their terrain and not being considered a threat.

The Empire always make the mistake of ignoring the small in favour of the big (that's how the first Death Star was destroyed).

Because that's the story as it stands the shield base has too look relatively unprotected, the Rebels have to pretty much walk in to get captured so changing that story into the sort of scenerio you suggest would require a remake (arguably the rescue of the Princess in ANH is that sort of story and there just isn't enough footage to build that kind of tale on).

Keeping the story as it was but enhancing it to the point where it makes more sense seems more doable.

The number of troops and equipment that await the captured Rebels when they are lead outside (and I could never figure out why they were lead outside in the first place but that's another problem with this act of the film, perhaps dubbing in a voice calling for the other Rebels to surrender or their leaders will be executed would provide a motive) is too small.

It's exactly the amount of troops you would expect to based at the shield complex anyway and not as the Emperor suggests an entire Legion of his best troops on top of those who would have been there.

The Ewoks have so many traps already laid it doesn't make sense that they could be there overnight. The only way around that is that they have already been planning to attack the base and have already been killing the Imperials.

The flaw in ROTJ isn't so much the story but the execution of it, it lacks due scale and the focus is in the wrong place.

The Ewoks don't really defeat the Empire, the Empire's own hubris defeats them, they throw all the technology and troops into the battle but refuse to acknowledge the little people.

Also it's much easier to add more troops, Ewoks and model elements into forest footage three decades on than adding more Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford into sets.
