If you need to B*tch about something... this is the place

Emotional turmoil

/əˈmōSH(ə)n(ə)l ˈtərˌmoil/

noun

Learning that the unrequited love of your life is married, has children, and is a semi-professional writer, knowing that you’re happy for her, but realizing now more than ever that she is the perfect woman for you and utterly beyond your ability to obtain.

I’ve disclosed I’ve had some of this sort of thing myself.
Things to remind yourself. Loving someone and falling in love with someone are not the same thing.
The falling in love bit is a chemical biological response. It’s sort of like going a bit mad (note how insanity is a feature of many a love story and love song lyric/poem).
It will get better and it has very little to do with actual life expectations. The sheer number of heterosexual females that would be attracted to you and your own preferences must intersect with a significance that despite your current feelings you must accept rationally. Pure mathematical probability right?
Then comes your proclamation (doubtlessly heart felt) that this lady is the perfect woman for you.
Well that’s clearly not true. She is married with children and a career. Her becoming yours would be devastatingly traumatic for her and as someone who clearly likes her would be unpleasant to experience as you would see yourself as the origin of that disruption. You clearly admire much about her but she isn’t perfect for you. Someone else out there is. It’s a mathematical certainty.
It’s really difficult to remain rational when there is all that chemical stuff happening in your brain.
I recommend forcing yourself out and about, I recommend physical exercise, I recommend going to the Doctor and asking if there is something you are comfortable doing that might calm down those chemically triggered emotions (even if it’s just a really good relaxation group and not a tablet or three).
Finally find a human being who can talk to you with a voice and not just text.
Nothing beats peer support.
Your experience is unique to you but not unique in the world. Men have a terrible record about not actually talking about their feelings.
It will get better no matter how it feels now.

ROTJ is the best Star Wars film... discuss!
Time

Choose the Force. Choose a brown bath robe. Choose a life of contemplative solitude. Choose not to have a family. Choose a laser sword, choose bleeping robots, airspeeders, stolen data tapes and tractor beam controls. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and being a mentor to the son of the guy you left limbless and slowly cooking on the side of a lava lake. Choose a stupid rat tail mullet for the peak years of your career. Choose a hovel, Choose your friends. Choose mind tricks and matching lies. Choose a trip to Alderaan for almost the price of starship. Choose a rubbish alias and wondering if you ever owned a droid and where you put that lightsaber you pinched off that friend you left for dead. Choose sitting on that commode chair watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing senate and council meetings, stuffing jawa juice down your neck. Choose fading away at the end of it all, pishing your last as a ghost in a swamp, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, freak faced, big eared gnome-thing written into the sequel to replace yourself.

Choose your future.

Choose the Force.

I choose not to choose the Force.

I chose something else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you’ve got death sticks?

What is so wrong about gay romance being in Star Wars?
Time

As a gay man I can relate to straight fictional relationships and be perplexed by gay fictional relationships. It does make the Star Wars universe feel more complex and realistic even in it’s fantastic sense. Gay people, unlike darker skinned people are defined by what the do rather than how they look. It’s easier to put more variety of skin tone in front of the camera than sexual/romantic preference. For all we know there may be more gay people in Star Wars than straight. It’s just the straight characters talk on screen about it.

I have enjoyed music from both groups 😄

I never felt watching John Hurt playing Quentin Crisp was off and when Derek Jacobi played Alan Turing and Francis Bacon I didn’t feel their shared sexual preference helped him get into the mind of a mathematician or a fine artist. It’s called acting.
Neither were actually emperors of Rome.

This is one of the reasons why I find it exhausting going over to the off topic side.
The idea that showing two fictional characters going from friendship to romance is pandering to something and should be avoided. This is the basis for some part of at least 70% of Western culture, the only difference being it’s a girl and guy story arc usually.
Han and Leia start of all sparky and too not into each other to be a coincidence and then they come to admire each other and then they fall in love and get married and have babies who kill them.
That’s life right?
But some books compiled from various sources over thousands of years have a couple of passages saying that an invisible being that created everything doesn’t like something enough that stoning to death is permissible and this means we have to treat people differently in the 21st century and somehow it’s controversial to say that this is questionable??? Even in a fictional setting???
If I question this it’s oh…here we go again…gay man talking about gay things which is why David’s post up the page is so welcome. But I’ve not done the thing (the naughty stone the abomination thing) in the book people get so upset about for a couple of years because I’m in a monogamous relationship.
I don’t live my life watching gay movies or gay television shows or reading gay novels about gay people doing gay things to gay music.
My barber is married to a woman, my boss has a daughter which he contributed making by being very intimate with a woman. Most of the people I know are not gay but I am and a few other people I know are.
There are people I am very friendly with I have no idea what they prefer sexually or romantically. I would not be shocked if I found out they preferred people with red hair or green eyes.
If a fictional man said he preferred people with red hair or green eyes I would be just as not shocked.
Is that pandering to the ginger agenda or the green eyed agenda? Both sets of people historically considered evil BTW.

WHAT?!?! What do you mean unethical means?! We’re ALL unethical here! There’s gotta be some kind of mistake!

Ethics are codes of behaviour agreed to within a closed group or society. In this regard most of us use this site ethically even if we are being to some degree legally questionable.
Morals are subjective so make your own mind up on that one.

Thanks for the update Jay BTW.
As I thought you had reasons for not disclosing more at the time. Hopefully people feel a little less worried now.

What is so wrong about gay romance being in Star Wars?

It was very fashionable for about five minutes to kick up a stink about possibly being gay in Star Wars : The Old Republic. This week it’s this thing. https://www.facebook.com/StarWarsDailyNews/posts/504142613124336?comment_id=504989423039655&notif_t=share_reply
I’m so glad we got this out of our system in Babylon 5, Buffy, Doctor Who, almost every DC superhero show on air now, a few Marvel ones but not Star Trek (unless the gay giant jellyfish count) http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Star-Trek-TNG-on-BluRay-confirmed/id/13387/page/6 or Star Wars.
It might just clear the air if we had loads of female non-Caucasian characters humping each other (off screen…please… someone think of the children) regardless of gender (I’m aware of the paradox). Just to balance out the first few episodes (Beru, Leia and Mon Mothma and transgender Rebel Pilot v a whole galaxy).
Ideally fictional people would be people with variety relative to audience experience.
Caprica had a gay couple and multi-partner marriages and it never got in the way of the plot anything like the fanboys complaining about the low number of splosions.

All this speculation is not helping.

It’s what happens when an announcement of this kind isn’t conclusively detailed. And I say this with all due respect to Jay who may be constrained or reluctant to give a conclusively detailed account. Harmy has used TN1 footage in his reconstructions, other people have used Harmy’s reconstructions as the basis of shots in their edits. Unless people know in detail what happened they will speculate if only out of anxiety over their own projects or position in the edit/preservation community.

The Unofficial Complete REVISITED SAGA Ideas and Random Discussion Thread
Time

FFS If Episode 3 spoiled Episode 5 of any other series people would go nuts.
The prequels should have been made so they could be watched chronologically or in the order they were made and still maintained the surprise, That part was easy.
Imagine if the Snape flashback to Harry Potter’s first encounter with Voldemort was in the first film.
It would completely ruin our appreciation of the arc of that character.
For many young people their first experience of Star Wars would be a binge run of the movies in number order…poor sods.
Surely the whole point of Revisited is to try to make the films into what they could have/should have been?
That aspect isn’t the most terrible part of the PT but it is bad.

As for Jabba being on Tatooine. I don’t really have a problem with it. Luke was always going to go back to Tatooine. Anyone who says so flippantly "I’m never coming back to this place ever again: is doomed by irony.
