It’s a similar issue to when wrestling villains get super-popular and the promoter has to turn said wrestler into a good guy. It doesn’t always work and it barely works with Thrawn. He’s a plenty nuanced and compelling character without the whitewashing.

Increasingly I have begun to think that everything except the preservation and fan-edit sections of the site should be deleted. This place is mostly a graveyard…especially if all the sock accounts get removed.
I disagree. In my opinion, a lot of people try not to write on the other sections of the forum precisely because they don’t want to be bullied by the guy and surrounded by all the sock accounts. For example, I’m in contact with one of the members of the forum (whose name I’ll not reveal), who openly confessed to me that he doesn’t write here anymore because he doesn’t want to be involved with the guy. Once you remove the guy from the equation, a lot of people might want to return to write on the other sections of the forum too.
That’s exactly what would probably happen, once the hijack has finally been stopped. It’d be nice if the moderators were not so absentee on the boards.
They probably don’t give a damn about Star Wars anymore either. Who can blame them?
Eh, they still have a forum to run, whether they care about the current productions or not. It’s not like people are absent outside of the sock hive mind. Even if it’s stuff I vehemently disagree with, it’s still discussion.
As for unpopular expanded universe opinions, Xanatos might be my favorite “dark Jedi,” especially since he demonstrated that Anakin probably wouldn’t have been better with Qui-Gon as a mentor.

I did notice that the 4K80 Fuji source had more visible matte boxes than the prints for the other two films. Perhaps it’s an issue fully baked into ESB’s original form?

The only Star Wars media I’ve watched recently was Jenny Nicholson’s video on the Star Wars hotel, detailing what a complete shitshow it was (good video, BTW). I think it’s best to remain in the esoterica/preservation/fan edit side of the franchise, away from all the culture war nonsense going around with the fandom.

It seems that ROTJ not being a very good movie is slowly becoming not an unpopular opinion?
It has inched closer and closer to that over the past decade. This realization was partly born out of the more analytical side of the prequel backlash, re-examining the “Ewok movie” and realizing it wasn’t as good as remembered. I’ve got no problem with the Ewoks, it’s more that I find the Jabba’s Palace set piece painfully slow and too isolated from the rest of the movie.
My awakening to ROTJ not being as good was watching 4K83. Divorced from all the Special Edition changes and subpar mastering, the cinematography looked bland (my biggest issue) and the pacing felt off. It doesn’t live up to ANH and ESB, but it’s still a more satisfying trilogy finale than many.
That’s some truly impressive stuff! It seems like a real exercise in attrition (and immense patience) to remove the droid and it has truly paid off.
I’m so glad TN1’s efforts have produced such fantastic resources for despecializing shots. We’ve come a long way from OCPMovie’s Classic Editions mixing the ‘04 DVD releases with laserdisc recordings.
I like that Vader/Luke deleted scene in isolation but I think it was wisely cut out for better pacing and dramatic reveal.
That’s where I fall on the question. It really detracts from the semi-ominous reveal of Luke later in the movie and the choice to unveil his new lightsaber for a big action scene (where it makes the most impact).
I’m impressed with what I’m seeing, Ady! It’s impressive with how much you’ve been able to restore proper coloring to the movie and to see the subtle fixes implemented throughout. Do you think you’ll release a color-corrected/properly regrained master of the movie, like you did for ANH?

It’s superb that you solved the static grain issue (which sounds utterly laborious and tedious to fix) and to see the colors brought closer to the original intent. You’ve done fantastic work thus far, and it’ll be lovely to see the comparisons.
I mean, the Falcon is falling apart at that point in the story, so I’d leave it. A functioning ship doesn’t need an intact door frame.
Vader was never a character that believed he was doing the right thing. He was a power-hungry monster. In ROTJ it’s clear he knows what he’s doing is wrong.
The most ideal version would be accepting that he’s become a monster but pretends he doesn’t care.
That’s kind of where I am with Vader. It should be depressing that he accepts his fate and keeps going back to the well of the dark side despite the pain it gives him. “It is too late for me, son,” should be the key line.
Giving this “addiction” interpretation more space in the PT would be welcome, as well as in spin-off materials. You can’t really insert it into ANH and ESB for pacing reasons (even though one can read it into Vader’s actions in ESB, finding a partner in addiction). Also, it makes Obi-Wan’s attitude towards Vader in ROTJ seem even more dismissive, which makes Luke’s triumph resonate even more.
I wouldn’t say this interpretation was intended at all (correct me if I’m wrong), but it fits.
If Ady has that one dude who did the younger Vader dub then I’d definitely prefer that. But the last thing I think any of us wants is an impression that immediately stands out. At the end of the day, Lucasfilm has already been doing AI Vader for Kenobi, so it’s not like this is something completely disagreeable.
That’s also the same guy who did the ANH Vader for DSG’s edit, matching the ANH-style distortion well. I’d say either him or another competent Vader impersonator would do the job well.
I’d prefer using an actual voice actor to the AI, but it’s sounding pretty good.

Male suicide ratio is a problem created by the patriarchy due to unrealistic expectations of masculinity. Even then, it’s been completely co-opted by the right wing to suppress women and empower incels to hurt women.
If she’s targeting any men, she’s targeting the kind of men who hold power and desire power over others.
