Disagree. You can say it’s more accurate to say Han is being jealous than there being an actual love triangle, but to me that’s just potato, potato.

Besides, it’s just two scenes. DarthRush’s edit cut the first one (wiping from Luke leaving to the shuttle landing) and trimmed the second one (“He wasn’t, I can feel it.” cuts back and forth of confused Han and Leia turning to him “He’s my brother”). This should be a standard cut in every ROTJ edit.

While this needs to be done, I never found a test render where it was half blocked in my SE research. I seem to recall something they made for one of those IMAX SFX reels maybe having the moon at a better angle.

Yeah, that’s what I was referring to, albeit incorrectly. It wasn’t half-blocked there, but it should have been.

1. Yavin 4 isn’t visible in the fly-by or is half-blocked by the gas giant (like the test renders of the '97 scene)
2. Redo the opening fly-by to include more variety with the X-Wings (i.e., instead of all looking like Wedge’s Red Two, use the elements of the relevant models).
3. Trying to make the CGI shots blend with the models more in terms of movement and visual consistency (i.e., give Luke’s CGI X-Wing different marks to match the physical model, use movement patterns more similar to those from ESB and ROTJ)
4. Get volunteers to add dialogue for the expanded battle sequence (if it remains).

These would require more work with the CGI guy Ady has mentioned before (or other CGI-inclined folk - many are on YouTube with their samples), but it’s doable.

Those efforts would still be there. All the original models would be preserved, just recomped for better quality. If anything, that would only emphasize how good the models were by presenting them in the best quality possible. And the other categories that Star Wars won, like creature design, editing, and music, would still be preserved in their original form.

Agreed. I’ve never minded removing matte lines or recomposites, since the old composites had unfortunate artifacts of the optical printing process. Heck, redoing the optical on finer-grain film (like the wipes) would’ve been welcome too.

Thanks. It’s all the more reason why I’d support a fanedit where Qui-Gon (and maybe Dooku) is the only Jedi with a green blade. It gives Luke’s green blade some added significance, in representing a “fulfillment” of Qui-Gon’s goals.

Luke’s green lightsaber uses the crystal from Qui-Gon’s hilt, since he found it among Kenobi’s belongings.

Also, until somebody like jonh, Sir Ridley, or Snooker does a “good” version of the Hayden Anakin ghost (i.e. not using Shaw’s body, Anakin giving a truly proud or happy expression like Shaw, and maybe wearing something akin to his ROTS robes), I’d say stick with Shaw.

I totally get your preference, but it’s more than just “purists” who prefer Shaw.

That’s it. If I want the prequels, I’ll play Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga (still fun, BTW) or watch the Auralnauts versions.

With the sequels, I like to just see TLJ as the distant, possibly “elseworlds” finale. Maybe it happened, maybe it didn’t, IDK.

TPM - Slow-cooked ribs that have a nice sauce, but are dry and have a terrible texture

AOTC - Rendered bear steak fat that just leaves a terrible mark

ROTS - Haggis, crammed full of stuff that should have been in the first two meals

TCW - A well-crafted frittata that got better as your ate more of it

Solo - A lasagna that tastes fantastic, but is slightly uncanny due to the odd proportions of ingredients

Rebels - Shredded wheat, with a few good bits poking out of the sugar drench

R1 - One of those IV drips that anorexic people have to avoid eating

SW - Your basic burger with all the trimmings and fries, classic and satisfying

ESB - a medium-rare skirt steak with roasted sweet potatoes and bell peppers

ROTJ - a turkey burger that’s still well-made, but just can’t get to the previous highs

TFA - reheated pizza that’s a bit elderly but still passable

TLJ - an excellent fried rice dish that makes good use of leftovers and does some experimental things with a few ingredients, not for everyone

TROS - raw chicken that’s well past its expiration date, alongside moldy pop tarts

My preference is for the D+ versions, since the SE stuff left in is very inconsequential (e.g., the detention block hallway matte and one CG X-Wing during the Battle of Yavin, the recomposites that use the original elements, and the redone wipes).

While I love 4K77 and 4K83, the former isn’t exactly optimal for some. While 2.0 will hopefully make things better, I can understand not wanting to watch the movie like that. The EK Showprint used for 4K83 is amazing and should be optimal for just about anybody (albeit Despecialized and the upcoming D+83 will have more fine detail).

Once 3.0 of Despecialized comes out, that will take over as my preferred version. Now that Harmy has raw scans to work with from the entirety of the OT, the results should be so much better.

We’ve come a long way since the safari guy from Gorilla, Interrupted made the Classic Editions.

Do an edit of AOTC and ROTS, but replace all of Anakin’s lines with random quotes from the Elliot Rodger manifesto.

I just wish we had more unmasked David Prowse footage to do this scene and the ghost.

IDK, those 4K77 engines looked pretty pink (and orangey-red for the Y-Wings).

This may be from the latest D+77, but it’s very much in-line with what the references say about the engines.

Add a cgi skeleton hand to Luke’s lightsaber in TFA.

I always thought saber colors had a theme:
White : Jedi Knight
Green : Jedi Master

This fit Luke’s path in ROTJ.
It fit Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan in Phantom.
AOTC…kind of followed that pattern. Yoda had green, Anakin and Obi-Wan had white.
But then Obi-Wan always had white even as a master while on the council…so it basically fizzled out as an idea with all the various extra Jedis just being whatever and it was clear Lucas didn’t follow the master-knight theme.

Obi-Wan has blue all the way until his death, so that was never the strict measure.

Blue is more about taking physical action with the force.

Green is about being more reflective and mystic in the fight against the dark side.

Yellow is about being more scholarly and stoic with the force.

Purple is usually associated with the concept of “grey” Jedi, those that seek that dangerous middle ground at the edge of the dark side.

Red is corrupted and bleeding from the dark side (old EU defined them as being artificial).

White (like Ahsoka’s sabers in Rebels) have been purified after going to the dark side.

One idea I had in a prequel rewrite was that the different lightsaber colors were the result of different factions that broke off from the original Jedi order. The “prime” Jedi (Obi-Wan, Anakin, the other Obi-Wan apprentice) use blue, the “renegade” Jedi (Qui-Gon, a Count Dooku equivalent, eventually Luke) use green, the leaders of the “prime” Jedi (Mace Windu and his associates) use purple, the Sith (now a splinter of the ancient Jedi) use red, and Luke/Rey’s Jedi Order would use all of the above alongside yellow and white.

It’s not particularly relevant, but I thought it fit with the talk of saber colors. It also fits with my prequel edit idea of having Qui-Gon be the only Jedi with a green lightsaber (maybe Dooku would have one, even after becoming a Sith).

Fear and Loathing is decent, but probably needed to stick closer to the source. The idea of Ralph Bakshi doing an animated version of Ralph Steadman’s illustrations (maybe with Dr. Hunter S. Thompson narrating) sounds very appealing to me.

The Harry Potter series probably would have worked better in today’s age of “prestige TV adaptations,” as that format would allow for fewer book deviations (e.g., making Ron an idiot, deleting subplots, and trying to soften Snape).

It’s about the rise, fall, redemption, and legacy of Anakin Skywalker. It’s also about Luke’s origins, triumphs, downfall, and redemption through others.

Most importantly, it’s a human attempt to write a Cardassian repetitive epic.

I tend to think of Dagobah as akin to Dragon Ball’s Hyperbolic Time Chamber/Room of Spirit & Time. One year inside the chamber takes up only one day outside of it. Dagobah time is elongated, which would account for the extended time Luke spent training/Yoda’s age catching up to him a bit more.

That’s just a “head canon” for me.

Rose And Holdo were created because Finn and Poe didn’t have distinct or fleshed out personalities. The one thing Abrams changed from the original Star Wars’ formula was giving the film a cliffhanger ending. This cliffhanger got in the way of two of the three main Characters having an arc. Kylo’s choice to kill Han and commit to the Dark Side completes his arc and quest in the film. Rey is still searching for belonging, and Finn is knocked out before he can take any personal action in the plot. Poe wasn’t meant to be a protagonist, and originally was set to die in the TIE crash. Because of this, Poe had no arc. TLJ had to give all of these characters arcs to compensate, and retreading past films or giving the obvious answers to shallow questions wouldn’t achieve that.

Thus, every major issue people have with The Last Jedi can be traced to choices made with The Force Awakens.

On another forum I frequent, one guy tries to blame Rian Johnson for everything going off-track. Here’s a bit:

"Apparently Rian Johnson wasn’t a fan of whatever the “plan” was after TFA and pitched his own movie that became TLJ. Some people say he was incredibly convincing in his pitch, others have said he knew how to sweet-talk Kathleen Kennedy. Maybe both, I donno. Either way, if there was a plan? TLJ derailed them.

I think there may have been an overall plan on JJ’s part. The biggest failing of RoS is that it feels bloated. They rush through too much too fast, and it seems like JJ was trying to do “his” Episode VIII in addition to Episode IX. I don’t think the Sequel Trilogy would be as poorly regarded if JJ were allowed to do VII-IX.

Rian Johnson’s script just didn’t fit. His vision of Star Wars could have worked and been really revolutionary had they given him control from the start.

Instead he took a hard left in the middle of a story he didn’t plan, and it doesn’t work."*

JJ’s plan was probably crap and Rian realized that it was crap.

“Dark Leia,” much like “Dark Luke,” is an incredibly stupid idea. We don’t want to see “evil” versions of the classic heroes.

It’s not as stupid as the one time I saw a prequel rewrite that had Luke and Leia being the product of Vader raping the Padme equivalent.

Replace all of Palpatine’s lines with various readings of “Ore wa ochinchin ga daisuki nandayo” alongside poorly-written subtitles. Likewise, replace all references to Midichlorians with “chromosomes.”

This guy does some decent work with lines from Battlefront II that Morrison recorded. Ignore the lines the editor added outside of the four primary spots, as a super-talkative Fett isn’t that great. The third Fett line is a bit awkward, but I’m sure it can be fixed with an entirely separate line/better blending between the two sources. The comparisons later in the playlists do have more faithful recreations of those lines (e.g., “As you wish.”).

I’d suggest looking into the Bounty Hunter game or any number of places where Morrison has played a Fett to get the lines, as it has to be better than the '04 recordings.
