His whole channel is overanalyzing things in the search for misogyny where none exists.

That and taking so long in between uploads it’d make Fredrik Knudsen/Atrocity Guide blush. Except your average Fredrik Knudsen video has five times the research that Pop Culture Detective does and is invariably more engaging. Why watch another “these movies don’t like women and are therefore bad” video when I can learn about the Austrian Wine Poisoning, the Dolphin House, Deep Blue, the HaseKara Calamity/doxing saga, or TempleOS?

Pop Culture Detective got popular because he was on the “good” side of GamerGate, not because of any serious talent as a video essayist. While I do like some of his videos and agree with a lot of his points (e.g., why prison rape jokes are terrible), he’s hardly a standout.

But back on topic. My suggestions for little edits to better blend OT and PT would be to add back in the “this Sith Lord, sent by the Emperor, will be our undoing” line into ANH, the aforementioned Obi-Wan line tweaks, and maybe a little vision sequence in ROTJ to include a slight ROTS throwback (so Luke knows the face of young Anakin/Padme’s name). That way, an upgraded Hayden ghost (i.e., no Shaw body and a more wholesome smile) and Vader saying “Padme once thought as you do.” makes sense.

These are really good ideas, I especially like the one about adding Tagge’s Sith namedrop to ANH. Has anyone been able to find HD footage of that scene? I’ve only been able to find the hand-held celebration camera footage.

I think it made its way into some Lost Cut footage, with far cleaner audio. It’s from the same camera set-up as Tagge’s later shot in the conference room scene, so it could be as easy as animating his lips to match the words.

It makes me think of Pop Culture Detective’s video on the flaws of the Jedi Order.

You mean he made a video that wasn’t about characters’ sexual misconduct?

He did! Shocking, I know. He did read a fair bit of misogyny into the prequels, claiming that they had the subtext of “women lead men to ruin” or something similar. It’s… a bit of a hot take.

The 25-year import law (read: a car has to be 25 years or older for it to be imported into the US) is a good rule. It’s fun to see the speculator market around vintage Japanese vehicles go crazy when a new model year gets “unlocked.” It makes the random Kei car or odd sight (like a Toyota Century or Toyota Sera) more fascinating.

Star Wars Episode IX (was) to be directed by Colin Trevorrow - DUEL OF THE FATES RIP

Hey, man… the Book of Henry was awful, but DotF was still better than TRoS.

Let’s just say Treverrow said stuff that made me doubt his competence with the franchise.

From a Slashfilm interview in 2018:

“It’s a foundational myth. It’s a noble ghost story. Where a character lives on after death in order to guide a hero to find their strength and defeat ultimate evil. And structurally, I can’t…but you’re gonna print this, unfortunately. I’m saying this now. But the way that I look at movies, I do see Avatar and Titanic and Jurassic World [as] very similar movies. Henry was Obi-Wan Kenobi. And he died in the middle. And he left a set of instructions on how to take out the Death Star where Darth Vader was holding a Princess captive. And at the very end, when he had the target in his sights, he had to remember his training. Guided by this ghostly voice. And then Han Solo comes in with the Rube Goldberg machine and gives him the moment. And ultimately the Princess saves herself.”

RocketJump's Video on Star Wars &quot;being saved in the edit&quot; is Literally a Lie <em>(*no, it is not)</em>

Mauler is just CinemaSins taken to its logical conclusion. And my goodness does it suck.

Heck, I don’t even like the Plinkett reviews that much anymore, given how so many people took the wrong message from them and perpetuated this “listing little problems as critique” method.

Let’s just say Cobb Vanth removed the voice-altering settings from the OOT/Revisited.

One what does that mean.^^

Did you watch the premiere of this season of The Mandalorian? If not, Fett’s armor fell into new hands. The guy who owned it then, Cobb Vanth, might have tweaked the helmet’s voice modulation settings. That would explain the difference in voices.

<s>Why I Love Prequel Yoda</s> (<em>Outdated</em>)
Time

The BCS example may not have been the best (since Walt never appears), but it is one of the few prequels that actually enhances the work instead of being terrible. We get a better understanding of the fictional world and just about every character outside of Walt’s family. Heck, it can reframe both shows as Jimmy McGill’s rise and fall through three key figures (Chuck McGill, Lalo Salamanca, and Walt).

I much preferred getting some actual answers on how the Empire rose and Anakin became Darth Vader.

As would I, but I’d prefer if episode order worked and we saw Anakin’s fall without knowing that he’s Vader. Give Obi-Wan a second (also fallen) pupil, maybe turn Vader into a name carried by multiple Sith apprentices, etc. there were ways to show Anakin’s fall while preserving the twists. However, by making the PT with the assumption that you’ve seen the OT, they aren’t nearly as enjoyable.

Heck, Yoda not appearing in the PT would be an excellent way to play with expectations of OT fans. Knowing who Yoda is makes his exile from the order more emotionally powerful. What could’ve happened to make the Jedi exile the wise Yoda? Well, look at Windu and the state of the order. Having other twists like that for a release order viewing would be fantastic, while preserving the validity of episode order.
