A Shaw ghost version of the final confrontation would be nice, once somebody can do it and have it look good.

And once again, Filoni left after S1. Also S1 gets better as in progresses.
With TCW/Rebels/his other endeavors, you’re on the money there.
But as noted, Filoni isn’t great at translating that broad simplistic emotionality into adult drama, which is one reason why his other shows suffer.
Definitely in that regard.
Bringing the thread back around, I would’ve liked to have seen Tagge’s full bit at the briefing table restored to ANH (i.e., Death Star is Tarkin’s vanity project and Vader is a Sith) during the SE. The same thought goes for “OK, hotshot!” during the Han-Leia kissing scene.
If it weren’t for 2000s nostalgia being in right now, ATLA would be seen as just kind of above average.
Eh, I’d beg to differ. It was probably the most successful attempt at a shonen anime among western studios, tackling plenty of mature topics and providing a satisfying narrative. If we want a Nickelodeon show that falls apart under any scrutiny, the numerous Dan Schneider sitcoms fit the bill.
With the excellent work on Anakin and Ben’s Ghosts for Ascendant I am kind of surprised we haven’t seen a similar attempt at making a new version of Anakin’s RotJ Ghost.
Unless we have and I’m missing it somewhere. I prefer seeing Hayden at the end, but with the look he gives, I understand folks usually using Sebastian. Has this been corrected?
I’ve written about several methods for it.
Option 1: Stock footage of full-body Hayden, tweaked to fit the shot (most difficult, since there’s not enough footage).
Option 2: Use a double with appropriate Jedi robes and a wig (akin to Adywan’s 3rd unit stuff), with a Hayden deepfake atop the double (less difficult, but it would require several attempts to nail - it might require outside help).
Option 3: Deepfake Hayden’s face onto Shaw, carrying over Shaw’s facial expressions (likely the easiest and fits with “canon age” argument - the hair won’t line up with Ascendant, though).
Option 4: Use better Hayden footage from ROTS to paste onto Shaw’s body (difficult and still has the “Shaw body” issue).
I think Option 2 is the best option, but I’d be open to any of them if they looked good. A good Hayden ghost has been my biggest wish for ROTJ fanedits.
Have Jar Jar recreate Mr Hands with a Kaadu.
It’s nice to see that the ROTS suit still fits Hayden and it’s been handled well.
Unpopular opinion: the ROTS suit is my second-favorite Vader design, behind the '77 suit.
That’s easily it’s weakest season.
Yeah, but that’s not saying much. It’s still a great season, and I remember his episodes being very well directed. He did the premiere ones and the finale ones with some in between IIRC
Indeed. Being the weakest ATLA season is like being the least talented member of Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Carl Palmer is still a legendary percussionist, much like how ATLA’s first season is still wonderful.
But back to the point, Filoni is hit-or-miss with Star Wars IMHO. When he does well, it’s really good. When he’s off his game, it’s intolerable.
All of Dave Filoni’s shows are decent but overrated at best (ATLA/TCW) but mostly kinda bad. The Mandalorian is his best show, but it seems that it was good in spite of him. The two episodes he directed were the worst two.
You did NOT just say ATLA is overrated.
(TCW might be a little overrated though. I think it’s great and I love it but it irritates me that so many fans just cherry pick the good parts and ignore the bad)
Also, Filoni only touched Season One of ATLA. That’s easily it’s weakest season.
Lucas zealotry has no place here.
You know, Better Call Saul is the example I point to when somebody asks for a “good” prequel to a franchise. That alone makes me excited for this show (in addition to other elements).
I know it probably won’t happen, but a Liam Neeson voice cameo (as Jinn’s ghost) would be nice.
A Darth Vader movie directed by Lars Von Trier would be much more entertaining.
I think a good version of the Hayden ghost would be a nice thing to have in the bucket of resources (along with TROS Shaw), but it’d be treated as optional like the “improved” Temura Fett lines or Adywan’s Emperor hologram.
A Shaw ghost version of the TROS Ascendant ending would be a nice thing to have, for the IV-IX part of the fandom.
He also seems to have a cape now, which I won’t complain about. Capes are cool.

I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist.
My idea for that scene, however controversial, would’ve involved ghost Anakin taking a holoprojector from the DSII wreckage and showing Ben a small recording of Padmé. Anakin would talk about his regrets and how he could never see her again, warning Ben profusely about his path. It would parallel Rey and Luke’s discussion, furthering the dyad theme.
If ghost Anakin is more involved in showing Ben the light (or has his own arc through the ST of helping the heroes), perhaps a reunion with ghost Padmé would be a good (albeit cliché) touch.
This is why a “good” Hayden ghost is the next big hurdle for fan edits.
Do we want to revive Byss from Legends? Because Byss would fit that role pretty well (core world that’s Empire-aligned, but not as obvious as Coruscant).
- A new Force Ghost. While it obviously cannot be the 2004 version, Shaw’s isn’t much better. After the “I am your father” twist, which puts Vader as still a regular human at least 9 months before Luke is born, it means he’s in his 50s, guessing Anakin was in his 30s when Luke was born, PT notwithstanding. Shaw doesn’t look the part at all - in fact, he looks older than Guinness! So I would love a new ghost, an aged-up Hayden, but unfortunately I don’t know how that could come to be.
I have a fairly shrewd idea, should stock footage be insufficient.
There are only two shots that need this creation - the full 1983 ghost shot (for maximum utility) and the distant image of the spirits. It should not be too hard to replicate this with any prosumer camcorder these days alongside an appropriate background for keying. Heck, Adywan’s “third unit” already did this a few times for Vader and rebel troops.
It’s easy to read the PT as Lucas dealing with the fallout of his divorce through the journey of Anakin.
Also, Temple of Doom is a “breakup script” in the same way Phil Collins’ Face Value is a “breakup album.” With both, the dust of the relationship hadn’t fully settled and a lot of raw and ugly feelings had to come out.
I feel that any prequel is always intended to be watched in release order; ie the very fact that it is a prequel means that it should be watched with the knowledge of the film that comes after it.
Chronological order ruins the viewing experience, at least for a first-time viewer (people who have seen all films can choose any order).
I joke, but this his would not be an issues if everyone had an option to watch the unaltered theatrical cuts. 😃

It might be fun to do fan edits of AotC and RotS that account for Machete Order. It’s grown on me as a way of watching the films.
Put me down for that kind of edit, which could include a framing device of Luke meditating and seeing the story from Vader and Kenobi’s perspectives. Voice AI for all three, along with existing lines, would work wonders here.
It also makes it line up with TLJ, which is a plus for me.
Well, Leon White died before TROS, so I don’t think Vader could’ve been in the whole trilogy.

😉
Stoklasa, not playing the character, in a regular video with “People vs. George Lucas” director claimed that “Lucas is, second only to Ringo Starr, the luckiest person in show-biz.” Amazes me how people still point to him for great critiques. Fucking idiot.
That’s even more insulting towards Ringo Starr, IMHO. Too many people downplay how good of a drummer he was and how he was the perfect drummer for Paul, George, and John.
If you want a “luckiest person in show-biz,” look at all the beautiful cases of nepotism in all of media. Or Vince McMahon, who survived the WWF steroid trial, the rise and fall of the XFL, and numerous other controversies relatively unscathed.
I want a remaster of Super Bombad Racing. Heck, a big collection of old Lucasarts titles from the 3rd-6th generations of gaming would be very welcome. They wouldn’t even need to be ports, since most modern consoles can handle emulation of these console generations.
We already have ports/backwards compatibility for Jedi Outcast, Starfighter: Special Edition, Jedi Starfighter, Jedi Academy, Racer, Republic Commando, The Clone Wars, ROTS, and Bounty Hunter. It’d be nice to get the missing games on a multi-platform release, so more generations can enjoy or dislike these games (see the Super Bombad Racing mention above).
I didn’t mention the Pandemic Studios Battlefront duology or Empire at War because those are best suited for PC gaming. Console Battlefront isn’t as fun as PC.
Super Bombad Racing would be very cool to play again!
I think PCSX2 doesn’t have much trouble with it, but PCSX2 is a pain to set up. I don’t blame anybody who’d pick up a used PS2 on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist. Just make sure to get aftermarket component cables.
