The Dark Knight Trilogy - Theatrical Preservation. (* unfinished project *)
Time

And now I just came back from a back-to-back screening of Tim Burton's Batman and Batman Returns. The first one was a DCP, so it felt like watching the Blu-ray. But the second one was a 1992 35 mm print, and now that I just play my Blu-ray to compare with what I saw, I can say that Warner also fucked it up on video. Batman Returns has warmer colors and is also teal. There's pretty much nothing truly blue in it.

The Dark Knight Trilogy - Theatrical Preservation. (* unfinished project *)
Time

I just got back from a DCP 2k projection of The Dark Knight in Paris, France, and it was gorgeous. The Blu-ray, the DVD, the TV broadcasts are way off colorwise. The movie is tealer (almost nothing is really blue, from the very introduction logo to the night sky when Batman, on top of a building, hears he can find "Harvey Dent" on 8th and Orchard or when he stands on the ruins of the 250, 52nd street after Rachel dies), golder, browner (like Begins and Rises). Its colors are warmer and there was no edge enhancement. Also, it felt darker. The Joker's face when he removes his clown mask in the beginning wasn't as bright as it is on the Blu-ray, and so the details of his makeup were less visible. And finally, there was no distinction of quality whether the shots were shot in 35mm or IMAX. The DCP I saw was 2.35 all the way.

I don't understand how Warner messed it up on home video since a gorgeous digital master clearly exists.

Terminator 1 & 2 Projects (Released)
Time

Hi, Team Blu.

I just watched the mono version and noticed something weird (on the 2 mono tracks). It's at aound 1h22'59", during the fade to black between the love scene and the Terminator on its bike on its way to the Tiki Motel: we can hear the bike before it's on the screen, during the fade to black, and that doesn't seem right to me. I just compared with the R1 DVD mono track, and it's not like that. Was it on the Laserdisc you took the mono track from?

Info: 'Goodfellas' - 4k remaster = huge colour changes!
Time

Right. Remastered edition review here: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/GoodFellas-Blu-ray/122386/#Review

I saw it a couple months ago in 35mm and just when I came back from the theater, I put my Blu on to compare and felt it was quite accurate, but I can't remember the jacket color. The 35mm copy I saw even had the same infamous vertical scratch in the middle of the frame, right on De Niro's face.

Sorry if that's already been discussed, but I was reading some comments on Blu-ray.com and came across a link to this:

https://vimeo.com/channels/starwarslegacy/116358396

The guy mentions 4K restoration, so I'd say this isn't you guys, right? Seems to be a parallel project. Is it a former member of Team Negative1?

It's a completely independent project: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/StarWarsLegacy-com-The-Official-Thread/topic/1418/

Right, thanks. I just found out for myself. But since it's a 2004 thread, I really don't feel like reading 11 years of messages, so what's the deal with this independent project? Is a release going to show up on Blu-ray just like Team Negative1 plan to do? Why don't these guys work together since they obviously have skills?

1996? That is amazing to me. I never saw the movie like this back in the day. The first time I saw that yellow sky was on the 2001 DVD and it felt so wrong to me. Especially since the DVD extra that shows how they reframed and color corrected it was using that specific scene that showed a negative with a blue sky. That means my VHS, TV broadcasts and 1999 DVD were way off before 2001. I wonder how it looked in French theaters, then.

Okay, so the 2010 Blu-ray does not come back to the "original" 1999 framing but is also different from the 2001 remastered edition (Metropolitan/Newline Platinum/Dutch BD) as you can see with Morgan's head off shot and Morgan on the backseat where you have more picture on the right and less head room on the 2010 Blu-ray. Also noticeable on the cop's cap or on the roof of the house.

That's right, it's on the extras, but the remastered US Blu-ray from Warner (same in France from Metropolitan) went back to the "original" framing or at least didn't keep the reframing made on the remastered DVD/Dutch Blu-ray. I compared when I got it and noticed on a few spots it was back to the framing I knew from my first French DVD from Metropolitan.

I actually own the 2 French DVD editions and the French Blu-ray. Also, I had on my hard drive the Dutch Blu-ray and it was the same as the 2nd DVD, the remastered one (Platinum in the US) with that ugly yellow sunset in the end. To me, the remastered Blu-ray offers the best picture : best resolution, "original" framing. It's just the colors that don't match the first DVD I have, and I loved how orange the alley was when they bribed the homeless woman to give a fake testimony.

Idea & Info Wanted: Heat - original audio - has anyone done a preservation?
Time

The better would be to create a custom video based on the Blu-ray and DVD uspcales of the one or two shots for the Diane Venora speech. And then, sync the audio to it. Why not the entire LD track? Sure, but if that means no 5.1, then it would be cool to use the couple missing lines from the LD to resinsert them into the TrueHD track, the way it was done for The Good, The Bad and the Ugly or Last of the Mohicans.

I have the Region B Blu-ray and the 2 French DVD editions, so it's PAL and presumably has better definition than the US NTSC disc. I can give it a shot videowise and, if unsuccesful, I can provide someone qualified the DVD shots to create quality upscales. But I wouldn't know anything on how to work on the audio.
