Maybe that thing about the dead actors was just a dry joke? Although it's kind of amazing that you just never can tell these days. 

Do we know, well, anything about Robocop 2? It's always just been this weird curiosity and a semi-interesting mess, but I've never heard anything specific about Kershner and the making of it, (beyond the fact that Frank Miller's script was tossed, but that's not particularly special.)

I love how it's gotten to the point where some people will actually be grateful if they don't screw up the most basic shit, 7 years after the fact. It's like preschool kids' standards. Good for you! It always seemed to me Leia had made the decision they were going on the offensive either way, immediately. Before more star systems suffer the same fate as yadda yadda. (potentially, it fries a billion people a day while they wait around)

This set is probably just a way to unload a warehouse full of unsold fox dvds. I doubt there's anyone involved with it who's very far above the fox interns.

I think Spielberg is the one who has said "star wars is george's baby etc." a few times over the years. It was his polite way of saying he wouldn't have directed one when an interviewer asks about it.

Spielberg seems like p.r. baloney that was never seriously going to happen. Howard Kazanjian didn't work on Temple of Doom because it overlapped with Jedi. So how was Spielberg ever going to do it? (never mind E.T. ,Poltergeist and Twilight Zone also overlapped with Jedi)

I wish they'd hurry up and put Judi Dench into Goldfinger already, it just makes more sense now.

The Black Hole was definitely in the pipeline before Star Wars, but I thought it turned out Glen Larson was full of shit about Galactica? That guy is pretty notorious for ripping off stuff.

All the dumb outside baggage aside, I like those 3 movies just as much as I ever did. It's a little scary that I'm still not sick of them, instead they're oddly soothing. But that's not unique to Star Wars, I feel the same about a lot of quality pop art like Jaws, Indy, Superman etc. I'd be equally pissed if any of them were presented so poorly.

I think the idea was that the Kaibur crystal was like a little "splinter" of the force. It feels like that was also the origin of the stones in Temple of Doom.

I guess the vader thing wasn't a huge leap from the theories being thrown around on a million playgrounds every day for 3 years. ObiWan is Luke's father, Luke's father is still alive, Luke's father is is the Emperor, Han and Luke are brothers, etc. Some mook probably even suggested Vader built C-3P0. Before getting pelted with BBQ CornNuts.

I think he was just talking out his ass and happened to be right. The theory popped up in other pre-Empire articles too, it was all speculation. It was actually one of the least kooky things people came up with.

There's a scene with Toad and the used car salesman that wasn't in the theatrical/  studio cut. Just because someone financed the movie you directed doesn't mean they should alter it without your consent. Unless your name's Marquand and you are dead.

I saw Graffiti a few years ago and it had the new digital-sunset opening shot. (and it was a print, not digital projection.)

I'm inclined to let Spielberg slide on the snake reflection only because he has insisted it's only really visible theatrically on a "bad print", aka one that isn't dark enough or whatever. They're already doing all kinds of electronic tinkering just to get a celluloid movie translated to a video disc, so, hey, what the hell. If he signs off on the CGI cliff for the blu-ray, that would be a different thing. It is getting into a weird area though, I know Superman III has visible wires that you would never have seen in the theater, there really is no good way to hide that without going digital.

The droids cartoon is missing whole episodes, has episodes recut, and is missing music. Young Indiana Jones was re-eedited to remove the bookends and altered to stitch 2 unrelated episodes into "movies". Howard the Duck is untouched and looks great.

Yeah, Empire had that full-fledged, wide re-release in '81 (and 82), I guess it's possible a few things got snuck in for that. (like Star Wars' crawl in '81) Although it was my understanding that any positive for theaters was totally useless for home video until pretty recently.
