You really ought to. Complaining relieves frusdration. And it's the only thing they listen to in the world of home video. Seriously, nothing gets done, ever, without it. It's not ideal, but that's how it is. So jump on the team, I promise LFL can't revoke your fan card.

Then you're part of the problem. Much like this guy:

Quit being part of the fuckin' problem Dwayne!

Like Leia and Luke being brothers. Oh, almost forgot. That's OT so it's okay.

Well, kind of, yeah. I mean that only in the sense that one of the main conclusions of these plinkett reviews is that we wouldn't be picking apart these various plot things if we cared about the characters and what happens to them. We don't, so he does. (And yes, he's not speaking for the entire human race when he says we don't give a fuck whether these prequel characters live or die. Just some of us)

I was actually serious in my statement, because the versions included in this upcoming set is not the actual films.

Exactly, the trims will look better simply because they'll be from an HD 2011 source, not a tape from 1993.

I am curious to see if the other prequels get a fly-on -the -wall Making Of, like the one for Phantom. (and if not, how come?)

Kershner liked the windows. The wampa he seemed not sold on.

As time goes by, the labeling and preservation really is the main thing, since it gets creepier every year that so many people don't even know that anything has been done to the movies. That's the most orwellian thing about it. Yeah, that's melodramatic but hey, I don't know what else to call it when millions of people can be made to believe a falsehood purely from one guy being rich enough to make it seem true to them.

edit-probably worth repeating this kershner quote:

“I hate slick films, because to me slick means polished with all the bumps and seams taken out. I think Empire is not slick because it’s bumpy in places, and a little ragged, and terribly real… Those things lend a sense of something that has been handmade, not machine made. Empire is not a machine-made film. It’s a handmade film and it has all the imperfections of anything that’s handmade.”

I'm sure they will, (and that he rationalizes it that way these days) but that's a pretty shallow read on it, and a douchey-lawyer way for those people to cherry pick what he actually said. Especially since so much of it is about our heritage and a clear picture of our cultural history etc. etc. And basically none of it is about how writer/producers should be free to do the exact opposite.

Hal, you don't have to turn the forum into your blog. Also there are a lot of people who are into this prequel/saga thing, it's not like you're going to ever get them on your team or something, let it go. (Although that jagoff from shiny robot has been a real asshole about getting the original on-blu-ray, so if you want to hassle him, go ahead I guess.)

Well, this thing will be the first time the precious complete saga is sold together. It will be interesting to see what they try to sell after that if the Blade Runner treatment is still considered to be asking too much.

The weirdest thing is that LFL (and a lot of the fans) consider deleted scenes and outtakes and various other scraps from old boxes (that will be watched once) are more worthy of effort than the actual movies.

The rumor from the digital bits forum guy was that Indy 1-3 were all set to come out in late 2008 along with Crystal Skull, but Spielberg wasn't happy with the quality and wanted to start over. Maybe he was actually just annoyed with the whole Indy thing, it feels like he's gone into witness protection since Crystal Skull.

Every once in awhile I hear an older guy lamenting the lost art of being a good projectionist, "all these multiplexes, minimum wage kids who aren't trained right" , etc., it's probably just that. ( I've seen 2 mainstream movies in the last couple years that had subtitles at the bottom cut off enough to be unreadable.)

Did we ever find out if Lowry is actually working on this set in any capacity? There was one vague second-hand thing someone mentioned, but I think that's it. I just saw this old 2004 quote from them in the changes thread, about eliminating the grain when a lightsaber is switched on:

"They flow very nicely now and, frankly, in the original movies, there was a distinct change. We were able to eliminate that change, and to me that's a very strong contribution to the storytelling process--removing something that prevents an audience from being drawn in."

I wonder if they said that before he saw what the sabers actually ended up looking like. The guy is so proud of eliminating the grain change but who really cares when the sabers are so messed up most of time? I would think Lowry would want that fixed, whether it's their fault or not, it reflects on them.

How practical/doable is it for them to re-use the 2004 source, but correct something like the lightsabers? And by "practical" I mean on the LFL scale of effort and quality control, not the normal scale everyone else has to go by.

(Also, on the subject of using TV broadcasts to predict possible future blu-rays, Raiders is on USA this week, if anyone is curious to see if that new CGI cliff is still in there.)
