3 ways Marcia Lucas (then wife of George Lucas) saved Star Wars
Time

Maybe she lays low because she assumes people just want to dish about GL, but I'm sure others would like to hear about her work methods and anecdotes. Forget Star Wars for a second, it's like her contributions to Taxi Driver have become collateral damage and we don't hear much about that either. There's a blu-ray coming and it would be nice to have her reflections on it.

The Marcia part of the story is just bananas, you couldn't make it up. You wouldn't think it was possible for her contributions to be so minimized. Especially since we know all about every bolt in the Dykstraflex at this point. (And zombie, as the Woodward/Bernstein of Star Wars, has totally added to our understanding of that. It's kind of amazing to step back and realize how the secret history project has slowly seeped in all over the place )

Favorite star wars child hood memories not related to the films
Time

I had a hugely inappropriate unlicensed t-shirt from Tijuana that said BAR WARS- with a crowded image of Mad-magazine style caricatures of the cantina aliens like Greedo, walrus man, hammerhead etc., and a drunk Ben Kenobi. All brawling, dancing with scantily clad ladies, and drinking tequila from those bottles with the 3 Xs on them.

THX 1138 "preservations" + the 'THX 1138 Italian Cut' project (Released)
Time

Sorry if this has been covered already. Has anyone attempted to use the blu-ray to do an "original-ish" cut that follows the laserdisc cut as much as possible? I'm trying to figure out what the most crucial "lost shots" are, ones that are just gone from  the movie altogether. (The big ones off the top of my head being the rat that donald pleasance sees, and the underground animated monkey)

Save Star Wars Dot Com
Time

How many people would have boycotted the Blade Runner set if it didn't include the workprint version? Not many. And yet that is the dipshit logic that keeps getting thrown around for Star Wars: "We won't lose much money by not including the originals, so why should we bother putting out a superior product?"  Maybe, but why even get involved with movies if you're going to be such a middle-management weenie about it? Go be a fucking comptroller or something.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

Even if the changes were better, ultimately, the most distracting thing is just the ever-present knowledge that this guy can't be bothered to do something so incredibly basic when selling his product. With all the hard work and effort many other people do to put out the best possible value for your bucks, that is some feeble shit, who wants to support that? (Seriously, right now, people are scouring the earth, looking in vaults for years at a time, following paper trails, hunched over in a lab, to make a great transfer of some movie you've never heard of that'll sell about 62 copies.)

It's too bad blu-ray is in the middle of 2 opposing groups. The smaller group that thinks its perfect for film presentation and history etc., and the bigger technophile group that just loves home theater and gets really into it to avoid talking to their wives. Those guys will sit through 10 Jedi Rocks if the matte lines are gone. And it's like the perfect storm when you add a guy like Lucas. (And not just him, there might be some compulsion with certain older directors to monkey around with their old movies just to feel like they're still in the game. Walter Hill did it with The Warriors, Friedkin too.)
