My favorite look: 70s mall girl. I would like to pick her up in my Trans Am, go see Bay City Rollers.

I think a kickstarter might just play into LFL's hands, helping to perpetuate their bullshit image that this is some kind of Big Project that needs to be carefully consdered, like a Mars landing. Instead of the totally routine, mundane, low-risk non-event thing it actually is.

I was thinking of putting on "Lapti Nek", dressing up like slave Leia in her metal bikini and maroon loincloth, then begin dancing in front of the mirror while tucking my penis between my legs and remarking on how I'd like to fuck myself.
I just call that "Friday."

25 years ago this weekend I was at a hotel near LAX for the 10th anniversary celebration.
Ha, I was there too! Can't remember what I wrote on that thing.
Hats off to Rian Johnson for this bit: (on twitter he's getting into it too: Rian Johnson (rcjohnso) on Twitter
I hope that by the next milestone anniversary, the pioneering work by these amazing artists will again be made available for fans and future generations to appreciate.
Do we have anybody on Twitter? Maybe JW Rinzler would answer a question about what WB cut from the '71 version. He probably has that info fairly available.

The original ending of Empire as seen on the 70mm prints: http://www.sendspace.com/file/4e8899
That's pretty cool. I like it better. (Even though the change is harmless enough, it's interesting the things GL fixates on. I mean listen that audience, it's not like the scenes didn't play just fine as is)
The official site confirmed it was Ford in that trailer, I believe. (he's sort of doing his nerd voice from Blade Runner) .

Bonus points? I'm not even sure what that means.
It means he gave them profit sharing that wasn't in their contract that he didn't have to. Which is basically unheard of in 100 years of Hollywood.
It's interesting how certain popular adventure movies have that appealing, haphazard After Hours quality to the story that can really only happen once, (Die Hard, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Alien). And then get crowbarred into something happening again for the sequels, even though it becomes comical that shit keeps happening to these people. (Indiana Jones is kind of unique in that Raiders was the deliberate mission and then Temple of Doom is Indy's random bad Friday night.)
This was pretty cool. And I generally find GL to be fairly likeable, especially as hollywood bigshots go. (It's just that one...friggin...thing that makes me nuts, which actually makes it even more maddening and annoying).
One of my favorite things he's done, we know he gave bonus points to the SW cast that he didn't have to, but I believe he also did the same for the kid who played Short Round (which is pretty amazing when you think about it, that kid was literally on a refugee boat from Vietnam not much earlier)
In an ideal world JEDI could have been no more constricting for Lynch than Elephant Man was, but oh well. (Looking solely at THX-1138 you would have thought Lynch/Lucas would have been a pretty good teamup. )
Very interesting threads, ATM. Especially putting an image to draft 1. It's been a while but I remember thinking that superficially at least, the scene in Phantom Menace of Qui-Gon fighting Maul in the desert, with the kid running out of the way, was very evocative of the opening scene of the first draft, where the Sith have tracked down the Jedi in hiding.
Some other thoughts: The Brackett script is actually closer to the finished movie than Lucas' own early SW scripts were to that movie, so I think she was more on the right track than she's generally given credit for. But had she lived the movie probably would have been missing Kasdan's younger, sort of 80s smartass vibe which really helped keep both sequels from disappearing up their own ass (the way ongoing science fiction stories often do).
I think Dale Pollock wrote that ultimately the greatest influence on Star Wars will always be Lucas' own previous 2 movies, and I tend to agree. Mismatched parents it would seem but it feels like a perfect blend to me.
What's funny is after all the stress caused by making STAR WARS, you'd think the last thing you'd want is to be an exec worrying about tremendous overhead and human resources and all that shit. (And mostly to do work for other people's movies) At least with directing you'd know it's your movie and it's going to end eventually. His company headaches just go on and on. (Although the thing he just did with low-income housing near his NorCal neighbors was pretty awesome.)
Good stuff there. GL remains a fascinating weirdo. It's like he wants all the hassle and spreadsheets of being an exec and none of the fun! Bizarre.
Thus we didn't use the same interpositive as the theatrical one, because that one contains subtitling already. In tracking down the elements, we found that the only ones in the vault were ones with subtitles- these clearly weren't the first generation off the camera neg because they had to have the subtitles burned in.
My memory is failing, but I think maybe this turned out to be inaccurate. (Since it was possible to have your cut negative on A and B rolls and the subtitles on a C roll).
I walk by my movie shelf several times a day and it has this really absurd gap in it.
I'd love the links, thank you erik, pm'd.
You_Too said:The part where George says he didn't "experience" Star Wars like everyone else going to the cinema knowing nothing about it, made me think that's gotta be one big reason why he doesn't understand the importance of preserving the originals.
Probably, and yet it's pretty feeble and narcissistic considering all the other directors with major hits from the last 70 years. The ones who have grasped the radical concept of not telling supporters and preservationists to fuck off just fine.
Hey that's pretty cool, thanks!

Yes, this is just a shameless plug for the Scooby-Doo villains avatar theme. Follow the link in my signature to get yours if you want to join in. Sorry I couldn't do everybody, but I started at the bottom of the barrel and worked my way up; so if you're not there it is probably a compliment. If you are missing and really want one send me a PM, there's a couple left I can do.
Ooh mine's even thematically related, gotta do it. thanks man.
I'm all about the style C, it's bold and colorful and really conveys how much the movie is about, uh, shooting people. Although it's interesting how strong and distinct that original Jung image of Luke and Leia became.
So I guess Fox and/or LFL liked that basic Luke-Leia concept for the main theater one-sheet, but wanted an alternate version out there that was more colorful, especially for t-shirts and posters and stuff, where it was used way more heavily than the regular theater version. It has that cool 70s thing, looks great on faux wood paneling.
Yes, I would also have accepted Macarena-chlorians.
This game is really no big deal, you can't get any lower than the current situation with the actual movies. This is classy compared to that crass bullshit.
(Sheila Benson was no fluff piece lightweight either.)

Looking at the comparison shots between the GOUT and Technidisc, the GOUT looks almost like its been bleached. Is this a combination of fade and DVNR or are there other factors involved?
I was wondering if that source was turning yellow and then correcting that ended up making it kind of blah? (It's weird that they even bothered to do that quiet repressing, the box came out so close to it. )
After E.T., there was nothing in that ballpark, when it comes to a wide ongoing release, home video ended that.
I believe the same as the cd but without that entire section with the old throne room music from the first movie. (Which is weird since it's not like the credits would have gotten a lot shorter at the last minute).

Well if you want a sci-fi epic that uses models, animatronic masks, puppetry, and enormous moving sets in addition to CGI, let me reccomend the PT.
Yes we know, it's just a little shorthand. I mean, I guess when someone says there's too much CG and it looks cartoony, you can be Matlock about it and say "a-ha! There are miniatures in that shot! And that floor and doorway is real!" If you want.
