General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread
Time

You can forgive almost anything in a movie if you like the people. Anakin and Amidala were just not sympathetic, appealing or interesting for some of us, even if we struggle to come up with more and better reasons than that. But I think that's the main thing it boils down to. If the temporary freezing of Han Solo elicits more emotion than the permanent death of Padme, something's not right. Obviously this doesn't apply to everybody everywhere.

New Here ! Looking forward to meeting new people and Star Wars fanatics !

The funny part is that that kind of thing, and especially the certainpov blog, are so shrill and often wildly inappropriate that they probably just have the opposite of their intended effect and make people head for the hills. Anyone who was on the fence about giving the prequels another shot would take one look at that stuff and all its crazy manifestos and run the other way.

DEAR DIARY,

Everywhere I look there're people claiming to be fans hating on star wars for one reason or another. I agree there're flaws in some of the films & some of GL's decisions haven't been the best, but i love all six films regardless of those flaws. And I don't care which version I watch. In my mind its still all star wars. I just want to talk to someone that feels the same way, but I have yet to find anyone that feels the same. It seems you have to like one version of the films or another & god help you if you like the prequels. I mention I like the prequels & fans that were there in the 70's scream that I'm stupid. That's where my anti-hater mentality has come from. I was born in 81 & didn't see star wars until I was 5 in 86 so maybe that's why I can watch any version of the films & not feel that my childhood was raped. Anyway, I didn't really mean to rant just want to find fans that feel like I do.

Star Trek TNG on BluRay confirmed !

I thought TOSR crossed the line when they erased a statue that was part of the live action city set in the episode "Wink of an eye".

Since they give you a choice of the original episodes, I guess my only beef was the new stuff looks sort of screensavery. If they had somehow gotten the tv-era ship up to the level of the Trumbull '79 that would have been cool. TNG should be very interesting, I'd like to netflix those blu-rays first, though I doubt they'll have it. Also, I still have a thing for Tasha Yar with that new wave/ Gozer hair in that one episode.

I totally forgot about the reused stuff in Generations, it makes sense that's when that footage went missing. One more reason to hate that movie.

Making our own 35mm preservation--my crazy proposal

I doubt it, there's no minimum age for noticing bad work. Plus, a movie from the 30s or the 90s would look just as retarded if it was as haphazardly fumblefucked as Star Wars is, so no childhood attachment is necessary.

THX 1138 "preservations" + the 'THX 1138 Italian Cut' project (Released)
Time

Everything they say in the extras for THX completely flies in the face of what was actually done to the movie, I've never seen anything like it for pure bizarro world backwards crazy. I just hope GL didn't take possession of any material Warner had as part of the deal to create and release the 2004 version. Which seems unlikely knowing his MO. And unlike Star Wars there probably isn't much out there in private hands or unaccounted for.

Is the theater where you saw Star Wars still standing ?

Wait. Honestly? That theater shrank? Because it's still massive. I love the El Cap but rarely go because they charge such a premium to get in

I believe when they restored it they went all the way back, to when it was built in the early '30s, as opposed to how it was later, when it was expanded for Cinemascope and renamed Paramount.

George Lucas leaves Lucasfilm

I've always maintained that what they should do is release the OOT in a big giant box, fuck you fanboy, you have to buy the SE and the PT too. There is NO PRICE I WILL NOT PAY if the OOT comes out CORRECTLY, remastered and restored properly.

I'd buy it. But my favorite pipe dream scenario is actually also the cheapest and easiest for LFL. Just do a running change to the blu-ray trilogy that's already out there. (leave the saga set alone, who cares). Just like the quiet repressing of the laserdisc they did in the 90s. Put a sticker or a yellow UPC on the ones with the 3 new discs, just like they did with the defective Gladiator, Saving Private Ryan etc. As far as I'm concerned those trilogy discs really are defective anyway. No need for an expensive ad campaign, word would spread quickly.

2. Sorry Geoge... no one wants you to quit! We didn't mean it, honest! To tell the truth, all of us who say we hate the prequels and all of the SE changes, we actually LOVE them. Please stay!
3. Hey real Star Wars fans! Those fake Star Wars fans who hate George Lucas made him quit! THEY'RE THE REASON THAT WE'RE NOT GETTING ANY MORE STAR WARS! GET 'EM!

I thought there would be more of this, but it seems like there's been a fairly light reaction from the fans about GL leaving in general, let alone blaming people like us. It hasn't really happened (except I guess for a few of those super hostile guys who are just flat out CRAZY, you probably know the ones, I wouldn't be surprised if they're reading this right now actually, as part of their hall monitor duties. Hi!). But mainly Star Wars land keeps chugging along like normal, I would have thought it would be a bigger deal for some reason.
