The primary source will be the PAL DVD as it is the only source I could find (outside the HDTV broadcast) that was widescreen.

A question: why you are not using the HDTV as main source? It can’t be worse than DVD, right?

I’m not using the HDTV simply because it is not a good place to start. Quality might be passable, but the resolution? Not so much. Honestly, if Disney simply did a proper HD scan of the movie and broadcast it, I didn’t have to make this project in the first place. Or better yet, release a HD scan on Blu-ray.

Progress report: Testing out SmoothD2c in the script yields some… interesting results. Here are some screenshots so you can see what I mean.
Old script: https://imgur.com/DO1fKV0
New script: https://imgur.com/RNBjf5N
With SmoothD2c: https://imgur.com/qqycDC6
Without SmoothD2c: https://imgur.com/pvKQNrQ
Regarding the color, I’m using ColorMatrix to convert the colors from Rec.601 to Rec.709.

That is pretty cool man, I love it, will this be Widescreen or Full Screen? And what sources are you going to be using? because in the screencaps I see a lot of noise in the picture, like grain almost

The primary source will be the PAL DVD as it is the only source I could find (outside the HDTV broadcast) that was widescreen. I’m currently working in Avisynth to combat the MPEG-2 compression without affecting the film grain.

Info: Disney foreign dubs - and preservation
Time

Swedish guy here. Almost all of the titles you’ve mentioned are more or less the same here in Sweden as well, with the exception of The Little Mermaid and Alice in Wonderland. Heck, about 4 years ago, somebody uploaded the original Swedish dub of Alice in Wonderland to dailymotion, albeit in multiple parts. PM me if you’d like a link. I myself has also preserved the original, unaltered audio of the Swedish dub of Beauty and the Beast from a VHS, so you can relax knowing that I won’t be rolling my eyes in your general direction. Here is a link to the FanRes forum regarding my preservation: https://forum.fanres.com/thread-1457.html

You probably know already but Night Trap recently had its original source negatives found and scanned for re-release. They basically “remade” the game and it looks gorgeous. There’s a clear demand for projects like that but movement on any of them is little to none unfortunately.

Negatives? I was under the impression that Night Trap was shot on video.

(Or the viability of using reissues for restorations)
https://www.ebay.com/itm/263819779563
While the prize of this print is ridiculous (I mean, starting at $2750 or buy now for $3575), it got me wondering about how viable reissues could be in 35mm restorations. I mean, a reissue was used in preserving a 35mm print of Disney’s Aladdin, so am I right or should we look out for prints from the original theatrical run?
