It’s been a while since I last posted on this topic. So, let’s bring things up to date. First of all, I finally decided to buy Topaz Video AI for myself back in November of 2021, and ever since I’ve been busy trying out different things on the program. I can tell you one thing for certain: never EVER use it on your CPU, especially on a CPU of a laptop from about 8 years ago. As I’m writing this, I’m testing the program on my new Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3i, and using the built-in NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1650 to upscale the video is miles better compared to my old laptop.
Well, better late than never. After a bit of digging around with the Wayback Machine, I was able to find both versions of the music video, more or less exactly of how they looked like when they released on the internet back in 1999. Sidenote: while the video was officially released on the internet, people could actually request the video to be played on MTV and VH1. I’ve yet to find any evidence that the video was actually broadcast, if at all. If anyone can shed some light on the subject, that would be great.

In April of 1999, Van Halen posted on their official website a music video for the song “Once” from the 1998 album Van Halen III. Time has not been kind to this video, as the only copy one can find nowadays is not only poor quality but also the shortened version. Searching the Wayback Machine yields nothing as well.

True HD versions of all the Superman shorts were available for a while on WarnerMedia’s DC Universe streaming service. After the service went down in early 2021, they were no longer available. They have yet to reappear on WarnerMedia’s flagship streaming service HBO Max.
You could recreate the game footage in HD
A lot of the gameplay in the early episodes was pretty poorly recorded (using composite and a DVD recorder). If you wanted you could probably re-create it in emulation and get much better quality.
That seems a bit overkill. The game footage is turning out surprisingly clean, so I think it’ll be fine.

Bumping this thread to inform you that a Japanese DVD-rom version of “Star Trek: Borg” has been preserved on the Internet Archive.
I’ll be doing more scans soon. We have Covid delays again but I have access to good scanners and to prints.
I’m thinking about setting up a subscription payment system to get things rolling. The goal will be to do every Disney classic - and where possible to scan multiple prints. I might re-scan Pinoke next year as well.

Good point. I mean, the first episode “Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest” is literally just gameplay footage with no footage of the Nerd whatsoever. The gameplay footage may not be suitable for Video Enhance AI, but instead upscaled using a Nearest Neighbour algorithm such as PointResize in Avisynth.

Dvd is in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio. But the films were shot in open matte so the VHS has some information on the top and bottom that aren’t in the widescreen version.

I think saying “print” is wrong in this day and age. I mean, unless you have evidence otherwise, any modern showing of Toy Story or any other film is highly likely a DCP (Digital Cinema Package). And another thing, you say print in a way that implies that every theater chain gets its own unique version. And lastly, please update the first post to remove the mention of 60 fps.
Any chance you can share the raw video rather than a Youtube video?
I’m assuming you’re not going to edit in the movie clips in true HD.
