On another seperate note...
...color me surprised... ¬_¬
Dufusyte said:fwiw, film, like painting, is not necessarily realistic.
It would be erroneous to recolor each scene towards realism. Realism might not be the intent of the film maker.
I concur. Trying to color correct scene-by-scene is probably not the answer (and would take a LOT more time). Though perhaps a reel-by-reel effort might not be unreasonable?
On a seperate note, I was just watching this, and perhaps the "ESB is very blue" theory might not be too far off: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMya5Z96VA8
I don't know, but I don't see why the director would release it himself in fullscreen if he didn't approve (unless he didn't know how to crop it).
Also, if you look at the comparison shots, the unmatted one even has more picture to the right and left.
Okay, cool. I was a little bit worried.
Maybe it's just me, but I'm not so hot on all the rampant color correction that goes on here (especially since NONE of us can even agree on any particular settings). I'd rather just have a nice raw Laserdisc transfer, and whoever wants to play with it further can have a nice base to start from.
Ya know?
No offense or anything, that's just my feelings on the issue.
Fight Club has it too (at least the old single-disc version I have does).
But do we know that the trailers are an accurate source for color?
I mean if the films can go out of whack, what's stopping the trailers from doing the same? Or from having unfinished elements that would be tweaked before the final cut?
Not that I would have any idea, I'm quite ignorant in this regard...I was just wondering.

Version 3 is not ready yet, and is probably worth the wait, but I don't have version 2 or know how to get it.
I think I found version 2 through search engines, but whoever uploaded it stripped it of its readme, so it could be version 1...
Can't wait to see this. Do you have any shots or samples from the OUT? After seeing quite a few older LD transfers others have done, I'm surprised at how good your SE transfers look.
I've been trying to give the GOUT a second chance, but even after seeing it with the stabilization filters applied, the "ghosting" (or whatever you guys call it) is still quite bothersome to me =/
Currently helping to seed if anyone needs this right now.
I need this.

However, the V1/V2 used the same settings for everything else - which tended to scrub out too much grain and resulted in a loss of some fine detail.
Hmm...I didn't really think the GOUT needed any grain cleaned up, but maybe that's just me...
Hey dark_jedi. I'm a little late to the party, I guess, but I just found out about this set the other day.
Anyway, I've got a friend who's never seen Star Wars before, and I don't want her first exposure to be the SE DVDs...but the shakeyness on the GOUTs bugs the crap out of me, so I'm thinking you and G-Force's efforts are the way to go.
I'm too impatient to wait for your V3 though. I found what I'm assuming is an older version online, but it doesn't say which version it is, and I skimmed through this thread for a while but I can't find any info on what's new in V3 aside from a few extra audio tracks. Actually, I can't find much info on what you did to this set at all.
But I did watch EpIV for a few minutes and it's quite jarring to not have it shaking all over the place. It's incredibly satisfying.
Oh hey, I downloaded this a while back after reading the book, heard some good things about it.
Haven't watched it yet, but thanks JBS (and to whoever did the original two-disc).
I would be interested as well, I remember enjoying their movies when I was a kid.
Anything ever happen with this?
dritzthevampyr said:I just happened to find this and wasn't sure whether or not this was the Japanese Version you are referring to.
"JM" is the extended Japanese cut, yes.
Niiice...now they just need to bring it over our way =/
That's a real bummer that it's censored =/ Guess some things are just too good to be true.
Does anyone know which, if any, of the scenes from McFly's cut are absent (aside from censoring)? I might have to get this anyway, just for the improved picture.
iRantanplan said:But I hope they won't put the exact same version on the DVD as mcflys as the "ABC version" could use some tweaking pacing wise espeacially in the action sequences. mcfly said it himself actually.
Don't see why they'd change it from the cut they already show on TV. I'm guessing the scenes that are cut out on different stations are to fit the movie into that 3 or 4 hour slot with all the commercials.
I've seen DVD_TV for True Lies. I don't know if it's really the widescreen cut they show or if it's fullscreen cropped (and I'm pretty sure it wasn't uncut, but I could be wrong, I didn't watch the whole thing).
The top bar is traditional black, and the bottom bar is purple with the text on it. Could easily be replicated using simple subtitles over an official DVD. They don't show any other DVD bonus features like FX does, just the text commentaries.
Didn't know they had one for Terminator, I thought they just text-ified commentary from DVDs, but Terminator didn't have any (unless the OOP SE did).
Darth Solo said:Its almost like they are making a point of undermining our editors work now.
I wouldn't say that. It's more like they saw how many people were downloading this, and thought to themselves "Wow, there really is an interest out there." I'm sure it also cuts down on bootlegging, so they're killing two birds with one stone. Hopefully, they don't throw out a rush job at us >_< (then of course, there's the chance that the timing is just a cooincidence...but I don't buy it)
Darth Solo said:I just feel like i got my extended edition already.
The only reason fan preservations exist in the first place is to obtain something that can't be gotten by legal means. "I can get this for free, so why should I pay for it?" isn't exactly the right way to look at it ;) (then again, one way you can look at it is that this cut is unmatted)
Personally, I feel pretty honored that we were able to do something to make a change. It's like we signed a petition that actually worked ;D
Darth Solo said:Urm, is that where it gets a little gray area? I own the official cut of Waterworld, and McFlys Ulysses Cut, does that now mean im required to purchace the extended edition...?
Not sure...all I can say is when I have to rebuy a movie I already own, I always give the old one away to a friend.
klokwerk said:"Digital Copy" is the term they give to a bonus disc that comes with said edition of the film...
Okay, so it's not something that's going to destroy the functionality of the actual movie, it's just a space/money-waster.
What exactly is this "digital copy" I've heard mentioned? I heard about it in a commercial the other day, they made it sound like it's just an AVI or whatever on the disc that's already formatted for portable video players (whether DRM or otherwise).
How does this effect playing the disc in a regular DVD player?

Hopefully the cover won't be shite.
Universal marketing research says Waterworld Extended Cut will sell like hotcakes if they plaster the cover with Jack Black.

First of all, I prefer to think we inspired this new release from Universal.
The timing does seem a tad bit suspicious to be purely cooincidental...
