A new low in Star Wars games
Time

I saw the entire playthrough of the Han Solo dance on YouTube, and of everything I've ever seen in my life, this is the one thing I wish I could unsee. But I cannot.

What system(s) was Demolition on?

It's also on Dreamcast.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't get the appeal of V8 or Demolition...just seems like Streets of Sim City to me, with much smaller stages, and without the terrible music.

Really? Or is this sarcasm? I've heard almost nothing bad about this game.

Really. Though it was mostly in chats, and humorous comics using footage from Episode III, so I can't remember what the specifics were. Basically that people were reporting bugs/issues, and the devs were ignoring and/or banning people, and just generally poor customer service (I seem to recall something about banned members being unable to cancel their accounts).

I did a quick search and this was the first thing that popped up: http://neverdc.com/games/star-wars-the-old-republic-losing-subscribers-estimated-numbers-players-unhappy-bugs-not-enough-content-world-of-warcraft-after-q4-2011

Info Wanted: Best source for the Mos Eisley speeder pass-by shot?

He said something like, "The best we could do was put some vaseline on the lens and kind of fudge out the wheels." Even in '97 I was confused, because vaseline is clear and wouldn't make an orange blob like that. Then, at some point I also realized that a "vaseline on the lens" trick wouldn't work with a tracking shot.

Yeah, I've always been confused about that as well.

Though it does kind of look like there might be a little bit of smearing over that R2 unit as it goes past. And maybe that guy's legs.

Maybe they tried a little bit of Vaseline first, and it wasn't working out, so they had to take additional measures?

I was reminded of the trick the other day, watching The Dunwich Horror. There's a few scenes of a dream sequence where it looks like they put a fish bowl over the camera with Vaseline smeared all over it (you can even see the brush marks on it). Could've been anything though, but still pretty funny.

Info Wanted: Is this amateur audio recording of Star Wars in '77 any use?
Time

For me, it's the audience reaction aspect of your recording that is the most enticing. I remember seeing Star Wars with an audience for the first time when the '97 special editions premiered.

The only ones I've had the privilege of seeing in theatre were Episodes II and III, opening night, midnight, and it was the most fun I've ever had at the movies.

Wish I had a recording. The only parts I can remember were some guy reading "A long time ago..." at the beginning and everyone laughing; everyone laughing again when "Count Dooku" showed up in the opening crawl; cheering for the Yoda/Dooku battle; and was the first time, and still one of the few times, that I've witnessed applause at the end of a movie.

...I guess I don't remember much of the participation from Ep III =)

Help: looking for... William Dozier's Batman/Green Hornet

I recently converted all of the Batman episoes to mkv for easy streaming.

Any chance you could send me a couple?

I doubt I could clean them up (or would even want to), but I'm just curious how the quality compares. I saw some (dead) links to some of these, and I suspect they're from those VHS tapes.

No official explanation why but the theory is that the episode featured "stereotypical" portrayals of Native Americans and Hub didn't want to risk any kind of backlash over it.

I just assumed it had something to do with Vincent Price...I thought I read somewhere before that one of the networks didn't air any of his episodes due to rights issues...

The Green Hornet episodes that are online were actually capped from the Encore Action channel, back when they were airing the show. The Action logo pops up only once or twice for like 15 seconds, and again during the end credits, but for the most part, it's a logo-free presentation. Also, for the most part, the episodes are unedited, except for the first episode (missing epilogue...syndicated cuts have it intact for some reason) and the Part 1 recaps on all Part 2 episodes.

I don't know, I'll have to check when I get home, but I'm pretty sure they didn't have any watermark during the credits, and they did have the recaps and the epilogues. And I checked, and the show was released on LD, so it would make sense...but I'll double check, just to be sure.

I didn't know that the TV Land rips had time cuts... :( shame, they were fairly good quality.

The US TV Land eps are cut, yeah. They run around 20-22 minute per episode, instead of around 25 minutes per episode. The Canadian TV Land episodes are just as good quality, if not better (mine are AVIs, so not an ideal comparison). Most of them don't have the "In Color" bumper, or "next week's villain", but that's more of a novelty than anything. I watched all of the villain bumpers on YouTube, rather underwhelming.

So I've managed to get the rest of the episodes from season 3 downloaded, still need those 50 from season 2. Maybe we should throw these up on MySpleen.

Negative1, what's exactly the reason behind the low detail in your posted 35mm frames? They look extremely noise reduced.

Straight from the horse's mouth: "the 720p versions went from the original image to wmv, then (i think) to xvid ... we'll try to get files together with less compression steps, that does eat up a ton of detail"

Those frames you're referring to look exactly how I imagine JPG screen grabs of an nth generation XviD would look. No mystery here ;)

Yeah, at this point, it's awfully clear that all the talk about the original "not looking good" is just a bunch of corporate bullshit.

Well, he wasn't lying to us, that speeder shot does look awfully grainy. However, I'd wager that those first few R2/3PO shots in the desert are equally bad, and have seen nowhere near the amount of cleanup (pre-SE).
