What's the status of the Originals? (the theatrical cuts of the Original Trilogy)

with the dnr knobs set to zero

That brings up an important question to me.  I already know Disney DNR's the living hell out of their film-based animated features, but can anyone tell me how they treat film-based live-action stuff?

Disney has some great releases, but their entire Blu-ray catalog is very hit-or-miss.

Check out: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Petes-Dragon-Blu-ray/40517/

Unfortunately, there's heavy filtering. With that being said, the source was excellent enough to somewhat survive the DNR bloodbath.

Disney Acquires LucasFilm for $4.05 billion, Episode 7 in 2015, 8 and 9 to Follow, New Film Every 2-3 Years

It would have been better never to show Yoda in the PT, only to have Jedi talk about how amazing he is and wonder where he went.

That would have built up an image of a powerful warrior so we would be in the same place Luke is when he meets him in ESB.

I take it all back. I agree with this 100%.

I must admit wondering what Yoda was like in his younger days. Even he must have been young and reckless once! ;)

Sadly, the PT ruined the following.

I think it would be cool if Yoda was larger in his youth; appearing similar to the Namekians in Dragon Ball Z. The writer could write-in that his people naturally shrink with age.

This would allow him to fight with less... jumping. Also, it would illustrate that "size matters not" because the increase in wisdom (and oneness with the force) that comes with age would more than compensate for the decrease in height and brawn.

Making our own 35mm preservation--my crazy proposal

It looks like we have access to another print of The Empire Strikes Back. Will come in handy down the road when the time comes.

So that makes it three prints that we will combine to get the best version created.

Awesome!

Definitely concatenate the best parts of each rather than trying something like (average|median)-of-three. Image registration is way too difficult and film distorts in strange ways, as you already know.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

Well, actually, the new version of SW will be quite different. I think I'll end up calling it v2.5 or something, as it won't be done from scratch like v2.0 was but it will have enough new/different stuff to be quite a different beast altogether.

If you don't call it v2.1 or v3.0, then the public is going to be confused where the missing versions are inbetween.

Unless you intend to release lots more versions, I would suggest v3.0 fits in well with the scheme so far for major releases as it's more than a bugfix for wonky audio (v2.1 would have been the audio corrected mkv).

I would normally agree with this, but I think it will create more confusion because everyone will be wondering why they have v3.0 of Star Wars, but v2.0 of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

2.1/2.0/2.0 seems less confusing to me than 3.0/2.0/2.0.

Many are confused by the current 2.0/1.0/1.0.

Proposal for an Advertisement to Raise Awareness and Get the Original Trilogy Released!

This is a good idea. Let's have no negativity about how the media will spin this, it's a valid and worthy goal.

I would be willing to contribute to this, but you'd need plenty of help. The cost seems to be in the 16,000 dollar range now:

http://www.gaebler.com/Variety-magazine-advertising-costs++39329

Well, that's 3,200 x $5 or 4,000 x $4. It doesn't sound too bad when using those numbers, lol...

I'm actually all for this - I'd kick in at least a $20. Should we start a seperate thread? I was almost thinking it should be moved to General Star Wars discussion, because fewer people come to this part of the forums.

I'd be willing to contribute a good amount of money as well.

Yes, please create a new thread in the General Star Wars Discussion sub-forum.

Let's make this happen!
