The <strong>Original Trilogy</strong> Radical Redux Ideas Thread

It’d probably be more effort than it’s worth, but I’d love to give Vader the red eyes throughout. They aren’t really noticeable as is save for a few instances, and they’re completely absent in ESB and RotJ, so you’d basically have to start from scratch going frame-by-frame. Sounds way too tedious for anyone to ever bother doing, but I can dream.

I think it would be cool if that could be replaced with a flat display screen that it more reminiscent to the war room display screen on Yavin IV, where you have the flat, 2D Death Star making its approach around Yavin.

I prefer the opposite approach Adywan took making the Death Star in ANH 3D.

Looking at these albums I notice a few things. The OT doesn’t have many curves, and those that are there are perfect circles. Next, the color palette in the OT is usually one color per screen. The screens themselves also tend to have black backgrounds compared to the colored ones of the PT. Like I said before, everything in the OT is line based, but the PT uses more than that. There’s also a prominence of the “astromech plug” shape for some reason.

The Ultimate Star Wars Saga
Time

It seems odd to me to leave the ST out of this, cuz it’s another section of the saga that clearly wasn’t planned in 1977 and feels like a natural fit for such project. FWIW, my edits (when I get back to them) hope to be more consistent, but the difference will probably be marginal. Really, though, your rewrites seem to do far than make things consistent and viewable in chronological order.

If you need to B*tch about something... this is the place
Time

My teammate for the final project in my filmmaking class just ditched me for a group that was already three without her, leaving me in a group of two with an agreeable but uninteresting partner whose accent and mumble at times makes him hard to understand. And to think I picked her partially for thinking she was reliable. I think I should’ve been more explicit annoyed I was at her when she told me, cuz now I worry it’ll just boil up. But maybe I’m just subconsciously mad because I’d accidentally written myself into a romance with her, which, while not my original intention, rapidly became an object of anticipation. I knew I should’ve let this possibility get to my head. Whatever. I’ll just direct a bunch of theater students and leave it at that. Still, the biggest reason I wanted to work with is that she’s a friend, and I like being around her. Now my project will be less me interact with people and more me directing my tools. And who knows, maybe the teacher will say my script’s unworkable. Maybe we’ll just merge with another group of two we’re friends with. Then again, I clashed a lot with one of them when he directed our last project at an abysmal pace, but he won’t be directing this time. However, merging would likely mean sacrificing my script and directing. I put a lot of time writing and rewriting it, and I love directing and haven’t had the chance to do it in ages. Sigh I guess I’ll just do what I usually do in the face of my life not going great and retreat inwards into my shell and my stories. And to think things were going so well for me. This just really killed my mood, probably because it also caused it. Maybe I’ll bust out the game Florence I bought in case of such situations instead of my usual short films to put behind glass saying “BREAK GLASS IN CASE OF DEPRESSION”. I really hate my life.

UPDATE: Having thought about it some more, it really isn’t the romance getting to me. I just feel like I’m being casually abandoned. I feel like my friendship isn’t valued, and I don’t think she realizes how much that hurt me.

SECOND UPDATE: Feeling much better today. Small things like that can sometimes trigger the emergence of my deeper issues, but I’m fine now. Quite pleased and surprised that it only took one day to feel better.

Makes sense for Hulk, not so much for Anakin. Dub him if you want, but his face is fine.

As for what makes the OT look more retro, I’d say it’s mainly down to most screen GUIs looking like they were made for a Magnavox Odyssey. Joking aside, it’s down being seemingly based on lines rather than pixels, like a more advanced version of a Game & Watch or calculator.

Harry Potter: Ender's Cut (Released)
Time

I’ve just worked on the end credits. I’m standardizing the music so they all start with that queue from the credits of the Columbus films (Harry’s Wondrous World). Keep in mind I only use a few seconds of it (the exact varying between films), not the entire first movement. The Yates films are lacking the main theme in both the opening and closing credits, for the most part, so I figured to make it easier to find enough variants for every opening, I’d give all the closings the same one. That way, I halved my workload in this area and gained a variant for HBP’s opening through repurposing the GoF closing. I’m leaving DH’s ending intact, though, as it just works better that way.

It’s a work in progress, but having just received a comment from someone asking for the full edits, I’m wondering if I should starting people see them even if they’re not done, since most if not all the color correction is done, and that’s one of the biggest selling points. In terms of music, most of it is done too. At this point I’m mainly just polishing whenever and however I can. One thing that is incomplete, though, is the OotP opening, which is clearly just using 2D placeholders for the WB logo and title card. I would need to get 3D ones animated, so if anyone could handle that, be my guest. And that’s to say nothing of Half-Blood Prince which is still in need of OotP treatment of de-grimifying the titles. I’m thinking having them at sunset would be nice, but I guess that wouldn’t gel with the midday of the scene that follows. I have been experimenting with a midday opening, but it looks to similar to the OotP one, since I used footage from the same video. Also, the best I could for the transition from that to the dark mark in the clouds was a dissolve.
