Batman - The Single Saga Edits (ideas thread / in progress)
Time

My pitch for these edits is this: all live-action Batman films (Adam West aside) as one, consistent series. It would be all about bridging the vastly different styles of each director into one coherent vision. So what changes?

Gotham: The city of Gotham should look exactly like it did in the Burton films. In fact, the whole aesthetic of each film should match theirs as much as possible. This would mainly consist of swapping out establishing shots.

Music: Once again, the Burton films are the standard. Danny Elfman throughout, or at least his style. His main theme especially should be prominently featured in each film, most notably over the opening credits. This is probably the easiest change to make, as it’s just swapping music.

Continuity: Look, I’m not gonna deepfake everyone to have the same face throughout (although if someone wants to give that a shot, I’ll gladly have a look). We’ve all seen James Bond change actors, we can look past it. What’s harder to look past is the vastly different designs of the villains, namely Joker, Two-Face, and Catwoman. I’m not sure how feasible it is to change their designs to be more consistent but it’d be worth a shot. I’d say our best option for the Joker is to bleach the Ledger Joker (black around the eyes included). As for Two-Face, just make the Jones version’s scar grey instead of that garish pink. As for Williams’s version, his role is so minor you can just cut it. Obviously, neither character would die in their first film, with Joker successfully boarding the helicopter in '89 and Two-Face surviving his fall and being taken to Arkham. Catwoman already survives Returns and her redesign would simply be a new (inferior) costume.

As an aside, I’m still watching the films so I have yet to see TDKR and the Schumacher films. There might be something I’m missing because of it.

Worst Edit Ideas
Time

Kinda makes me think of how for my own original project, I include a different song I like as the end credits theme to each episode while avoiding using the same one twice. I also include some within the episode sometimes, like that time the villain fatally stabs a main character while singing Last Surprise. You’ll never see it comiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing!

Clocks is the only exception besides Viva la Vida. It’s good. Not great, but good. The rest is dull, though. If it makes you feel any better, my cousin absolutely loves their music.

And I like some good 00s rock, but I don’t know what specifically early 00s alt rock entails.

Anyway, we should probably stop derailing this thread.

That’s some very nice work. However, I think the only way I would actually want to use it as if it is so subtle that it’s almost hard to notice on the first viewing.

This is fantastic! I don’t suppose you’d be willing to add Qui-Gon? He’s the only one missing here to have achieved ghosthood as mentioned in the films no less, and he kinda deserves it.

I don’t think that’s a good idea. It would just change the line from imitating Endgame to imitating Return of the King:

Witch King: No man can defeat me!
Eowyn: And I am no man.

Nobody’s imitating anyone else here, it’s just common movie talk. I’m sure it’s been done hundreds of times.

I know, but a lot of people say that “I am all the Jedi” is an imitation of Endgame, including the person who made that suggestion, so I was just providing a counterpoint.

That’s fine, my comment wasn’t really directed at you in particular so much as the conversation as a whole.

Unusual Sequel Trilogy Radical Redux Ideas Thread

It’s interesting how John Williams’ style is so melodic than any excerpt can become a motif if you just have it repeat.

I disagree. The excerpt Rogue Leader used isn’t really recognizable. We need something more distinct. Kylo and Rey’s theme complement each other (probably deliberately) so maybe a blend of those two could fulfill the role of a love theme?

Did some work on my anthology trilogy. It’s interesting writing all three parts in a trilogy simultaneously, but it’s only really doable because it’s an anthology. But yeah, I worked on all three today. It occurred to me that parts 2 & 3 both start with buidlings burning down, so I should probably add an instance of that to the start of part 1 for poetry.

Last Item(s) Purchased?
Time

Bought a video mic off eBay. It’s supposed to be “like new”. I sure hope so. I’m planning using it and my relatively new (bought new from retailer and used it a couple times) camera to start making movies. Hopefully I can finish up the script for Hickary Finch and when quarantine ends I’ll put together a team to produce it. It’s not particularly ambitious, and it takes place almost entirely in school buildings, so obtaining locations should be trivial.
