The Rise of Skywalker: Ascendant (Released)

I don’t think that’s the problem. The shots themselves are a nice length, the problem is that the movie goes frantically between plot points with no time to breathe. Removing and/or reshuffling those plot points would be much better for pacing than artificial slo-mo.

I second this. The way the film is shot is fine. The key is in the editing.

…Because he cares about her? Han would have done the same thing for Luke.

No? Han would’ve left him to attend to Jedi business and trust he could handle himself, or if he thought he couldn’t would’ve tried to help. What’s the point of running up and calling their name?

Finn’s motivations across all three films was his crush on Rey. Removing that already helps his character have more depth.

Yeah, it’s kinda sad he was still into her even in TLJ, although given it takes place immediately after TFA, it does make sense that he still would be. Still he shouldn’t be by TRoS, and if we remove the “secret” subplot, that will be the case.

Any theory or little thing you’d like to believe is true in the GFFA despite no direct evidence. Here’s a few to get started.

Oh and before one of you smartasses does it, here’s the obligatory xkcd comid.

Palpatine is hundreds of years old, possibly even as old as Yoda. Through the teachings of the immortality obsessed Plagueis and “secrets only the Sith knew”, he has be able to prolong his life for several centuries. However, it did only the bare minimum to preserve his body, hence the sorry state it’s in when his true form is revealed in RotS.

Obi-Wan Force healed Luke after the Tusken Raiders killed him. Think about it. Why wouldn’t the Tusken Raiders kill Luke? Why would Ob-Wan sacrifice himself when he could have easily made it back to the ship? My explanation is that Obi-Wan gave Luke his lifeforce, meaning he would die instead. He strained himself to last until the Death Star, and when the time came, gave himself into the Force.

Jannah is Finn’s sister. It fixes every problem I have with her character as well as improving Finn’s arc. I genuinely hope to integrate this into an edit.

As for Harley and Ivy… that one has been in the cards and hinted at since Batman: The Animated Series, where Ivy helps console Harley to not need abusive men in her life. It wasn’t overt until much later in the comics, but it definitely has a lot of foundation.

And I didn’t pick up on any of it there either, but at least there Ivy wasn’t straight-up cheating on her fiance.

Finn being Force sensitive is a paper thin revelation, and Rey, the person he wanted to tell, never even learns about it on-screen. Most people only realized what that was all about from post-release interviews or tweets.

I 100% believed he was trying to tell Rey he loved her and was shocked to find people read it differently. I may not have picked up on Stormpilot, but Finn’s simp act is hard to miss. Why else would he rush over to the Death Star ruins?

Idea: Star Wars (with pop song soundtrack)

I’m not making an edit of this (at least for the time being), but I thought it’d be fun to put together a thread for such an idea. Heavy Star Wars is a thing, but I’m sure there’s plenty of opportunities it missed, so let’s have some fun, shall we?

For starters, Don’t Stop Me Now over Lando’s Death Star run. It would work perfectly to relieve the tension after the throne scene.

No, I haven’t listened to their lesser known stuff, but have no intention to. Bohemian Rhapsody is actually really good for the first four lines before drifting into generic Queen nonsense.

I recommend actually listening to an album. If you have no further intetest in Queen, then at least listen to Abbey Road for The Beatles at their best IMO. I have to wonder if you’re actually familiar with what these bands sound like outside of two songs or so.

I’m familiar with whatever songs of theirs are popular.

FWIW, I really like While my Guitar Gently Weeps.

Yeah. Either this thread or another one. I’m leaning towards this one to make it a catch-all.

Personally, I really don’t get the appeal of the Beatles, and to a lesser extent Queen.

Also 99% of hip hop is just bad. I don’t like hip hop. Just these annoying, repetitive snares and monotone vocals with the most needlessly crude lyrics imaginable. Yay, you do drugs and have been to prison! Are you proud of yourself?

I wonder if they cut it out of concern that making all three major (non-Mace Windu) black characters in the series related was… questionable.

Maybe, but they failed to realize how much more sense it makes for Jannah to be Finn’s sister than for her to be Lando’s daughter. Seriously, what does the latter contribute to the story? We should cut the relation to Lando and make her Finn’s sister, not have both.

Here’s a very flattering demonstration of what Remini can achieve with faces. Unfortunately doing a 100 frame ish shot in this manner takes me about an hour since the workflow involves Photoshop contact sheets, Bluestacks and EBSynth… It also only works with faces which still have a discernible likeness to the actors - the tiny faces in, say, the ROTS rebellion deleted scenes can’t be saved using Remini, since the faces it generates are not right at all.

Are we gonna get a version of this in motion?

In the Art of Book it says that in previous versions of TROS, Finn encountered a sibling on a wreckage world.

In the early leaks Janna was meant to be Finns sister and it would have been later revealed that Lando was their father (evidently from the visual dictionary and novelisation)

Didn’t Boyega also talk about his backstory getting fleshed out in one of the interviews?

Janna being Finn’s sister explain so much and implementing it would make Finn’s role in the film feel less non-existent. It also ties the whole planet-hopping goose chase into a cohesive narrative rather than half a movie’s worth of filler. Each planet is about one of the main trio reconnecting with their past. Pasaana has Rey confronting her parentage, Kijimi has Poe confronting his past as spice runner, and Kef Bir has Finn confronting his forcefully broken family. It all makes sense now. Suddenly it feels like Abrams and Terrio weren’t completely pulling stuff out the blue and filming a first draft. The sibling dynamic removes the feeling of Jannah being Rose’s replacement too! We have to implement this!

Speaking about Finn and Jannah, I was wondering about playing a subtle version of Luke’s theme (the main theme) under the scene where she recounts how her squad refused to kill civilians. Then, in the opening crawl, Luke’s sacrifice would be directly referenced, and that it sent a “shockwave across the galaxy” or something like that. This would imply that Luke’s final act is not only force projecting to Crait, but also having people all across the galaxy feel the force (even if it’s just for a minute). I know that’s kind of ridiculous, but it adds even further weight to Luke saying “I will not be the last Jedi”, and actually makes his sacrifice relevant, which is my biggest problem with TROS. It’s silly, but this IS the radical redux thread, so I thought I should mention it.

It’s not Luke’s theme anymore, so this is meaningless.
