The Acolyte (live action series set in The High Republic era) - a general discussion thread
Time

Amandla Stenberg goes by both ‘she’ and ‘they’, is lesbian, and is an outspoken feminist

I’m very glad to learn a little bit more about the series as it’s one of the upcoming projects I’m most intrigued by

Me too, but did we really learn anything here besides the lead actress?

George Lucas's Sequel Trilogy
Time

Anyone else remember when Labyrinth of Evil came out right before the final episodes of the Tartakovsky clone wars and we basically got to see the EU contradict itself in real time?

See this is why Doctor Who doesn’t do canon.

Do you guys think Lucas had any intention of ever making a Sequel trilogy between 1983 and 2010?

It seems to me like it was something he abandoned with RotJ and only started exploring the concept in the lead-up to the buyout thinking if they were gonna do it anyway might as well do it right. I mean, this article makes it clear he hired someone else to write, something he never did on the Prequels (besides a bit of help from Jonathan Hale on AotC, which I somehow doubt helped much). Also worth noting that his Sequels seamlessly evolved into the ones we got through a standard pre-production process.

So yeah, in summary, I don’t think there ever really was a “George Lucas Sequel Trilogy” so much as there was George Lucas as a creative consultant during the pre-production for TFA.

That article’s great, btw. Very comprehensive.

Max's Prequel Edits (a WIP)

I did this quick edit just to see the gag but I think it’s too jokey. I’m on the fence whether to keep that single Jar Jar moment at all, in its proper place, but definitely cutting the first tongue shot. I go between not liking the antics and thinking a Gungan creature is not theoretically a bad idea that can work if toned down.

Okay that is brilliant.

The Rise of Skywalker: Ascendant (Released)
Time

The “sith” translation scene can totally be redone with new lines, add a filter to it (to kinda match what we saw in the movie if need be) and just wow.

That sounds like the perfect way to skip over the nonsensical Raiders of the Lost Ark scene with the dagger and the Death Star. I kinda want him to recite a rhyming riddle but Idk if the fact that C-3PO improvises a translation that rhymes is a bit too convenient. Nonetheless, a riddle of some sort could be interesting. It would even retain the treasure hunting aspect of the original dagger extension scene without the plot holes.

Really though, is the 3PO voice necessary for that? The movie gives him a different voice when his eyes turn red, and I think that makes more sense.

I am curious about the addition of the Force ghosts in the final scene with Rey and Palpatine. I sort of missed Mace (it would have been poetic justice for him to be there during the final defeat of the person who killed him) and Qui-Gon.

I don’t think Mace is an appropriate inclusion since he’s essentially an antagonist. Qui-Gon however I agree should be there, as he’s a major character in the film he appears in and would help tie the films together and make this Part 9/9 instead of Part 3/3.

I think this TikTok Text-to-Speech thing might just be the most worthwhile breakthrough we’ve had since the invention of the NLE.

What is NLE?

Horizontally stretch out every shot of Boba Fett in the OT to more closely match Temuera Morrison’s body-type.

You mean, like this?

I love Song for Denise so much. Total bop.

I might as well repost this one I pitched in the Ascendant thread:

Honestly I could see that working in a really comedic edit of the sequels that instead of removing the gags doubles down on them. The delivery’s a bit stilted and he pronounces Plagueis wrong, but the idea’s there.

Star Wars - The Purple Planet Saga (a WIP)
Time

Yesterday I spent all day working on my edits after not really touching them for a while. Today I decided I was happy with the preliminary color grade so rendered it. I still need to manually correct certain things by combining the altered footage with the original footage, but the actual palette is pretty much locked at this point. Here’s a sneak peak:

Ajan Kloss Purple

Pasaana Green Sky

In terms of actual non-color editing, I’ve come up with a cut of the Battle of Exegol that’s good enough for me. I couldn’t get rid of the spirit transfer ritual, but I removed the reference to Palpatine having the spirit of every other Sith in him. This is Palpatine’s Saga, so I wanna keep the focus as a villain squarely on him. The grandfather stuff is obviously all gone, but I still need to come up with replacements for shots I removed where Poe talks about the cannons. I have left the cannons themselves in for my own sanity but they’re never mentioned so one can assume they’re just standard canons, at most comparable to those of dreadnoughts, which does warrant them treating the fleet as such a threat.

The Prequels are done, and the Sequels are just missing various replacement shots. Now I gotta dive into the Originals. Gonna need to look through all the various changes made to them over the years as my buffet to choose from. If I’m feeling brave, maybe I can even pull off a new Death Star explosion to combine the two battle stations as I’d like to, although as it stands I fear that won’t be happening in this coming release. As for future releases, I think they’d only occur should there be some major upgrade in my editing abilities such that I could achieve various changes that have thus far proven to ambitious to pull off. Then again, I might make some minor tweaks from time to time as well. We’ll see.
