If you need to B*tch about something... this is the place
Time

I admire lego sets but I can’t justify spending $100+ on what I’d like.

That’s exactly why I quit LEGO. I loved it dearly but I couldn’t justify the expense.

I’ve never played a RPG like D&D and while I like the concept, the spreadsheets and mechanics seem so tedious and clunky. Not that I can think of a better way.

They 100% are. Every time I’ve tried playing DnD it was absolutely tedious. It’s like trying to run a video game RPG on paper. Simplify the rules ffs.

I think about spending time playing music, writing, or some kind of craft. But the internet is quicker, easier, more seductive.

For sure.

George Lucas's Sequel Trilogy
Time

It’s hard and not hard to say why The Force Awakens was rated PG-13 but part of me does wonder if it’s due to the backlash the Prequels got for their childlike tone at times.

Strong disagree. Besides, 1/3 Prequels was PG-13 and it earned it. It’s painfully obvious to me the PG-13 rating for the Sequels is just the result in the standard creeping upwards. Nowadays everything’s PG-13. Look at any Marvel film (kid friendly stuff) and you’ll see they’re all PG-13.

Like the Lurmen were developed for Revenge of the Sith

I did not know that. How fascinating. That explains why they’re said to be native to Mygeeto. The concept art is a little more like just straight lemurs, though.

Anyone else miss the act of play as an adult? Be it inside with action figures or LEGO or outside with foam swords and imagination. I wanna reinject some of that into my life. Really make the physical world more than just a hub for all our digital activities. At this point the real world barely feels real. Everything is trapped in the theoretical of the online world as we stare at screens all day.

LEGO 'Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga' video game thread
Time

Tbf, a lot of that is from long ago. Jon Burton left the company ages ago and they’ve stopped the annual releases to focus on The Skywalker Saga, and making it as good as it can be. I have to assume they haven’t been in constant crush developing the same game for 5 years or so. They’ve already pushed the deadline back so many times there’s no way they’re rushing it.

But enough of that downer, let’s talk about the fun stuff we came for: the new trailer!

The character class upgrades system sounds really cool! I would’ve liked a few more classes, and Hero and Villain are a bit strange and arbitrary as classes, but I like the system nonetheless. Another thing I really like is the little animated displays for each Episode. I also got unreasonably excited by seeing that lizard running by on Dagobah. I really loving all the brick-built environments. Unfortunately they appear to limited to ships.

In terms of freely explorable planets, the only ones of any importance missing are Dagobah, the two Death Stars, and Starkiller Base. Most of those make sense given they only exist for one film before being blown up, but Dagobah is a little strange. Regardless, they’ll all playable as levels so it’s not that big a deal.

The mumble mode obviously just gonna be audio replacement, but they’ve already shown several visual gags across the various trailers that seem eerily similar to the old style, so I think they’re definitely trying to capture that feeling.

I’m really curious about the new combat system. I already was, but this brief but intriguing explanation made me more so. Being able to aim your blaster is really nice! The cover fire mechanics seem a lot more subtle and well integrate that the version in TFA which was pretty bad. Probably the result of having years to fine-tune it instead of having to rush it out the door in a single year.

That drumroll at the end of the trailer does culminate to any big blast of horns. Very strange.

Strongly disagree.

The Mortis Gods have very different relationships to one another than the Christian Trinity. The only commonality is that there are three of them.

Virgin births are common in religion/mythology and by no means exclusive to the Virgin Mary.

I don’t think to explain why Padme’s CGI pair isn’t symbolic.

Temptation to commit evil is not a purely Christian idea. It’s too basic. It crops up everywhere.

Editing other sci-fi movies into Star Wars stories
Time

I think it’d be neat to find films like Blade Runner that feature a common actor so that we already have our foot in the door. Still, the totally unrelated films are cool too. You just gotta make it convincing it’s the same universe. I bet scattering recognized aliens like Twi’leks and Bith in the background would help.

Maybe we can look into some Gonzo blockbusters like Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. I wanna say James Cameron’s Avatar could maybe work too, but I’m not sure it would. It would at least require a massive overhaul.

Info: The random and general Fan Edit Ideas thread....
Time

Batman Begins followed by the Burton and Schumacher films, all edited to have the same style.

Batman Begins has the rigid neck and no repeat villains. You just have to remove the recast Gordon and Alfred and replace or eliminate the shots of a realistic Gotham as much as possible. The climax happens in the Narrows which already could pass for the other two universes (color aside) and much of the film takes place overseas so it’d be okay for it to look different.

Batman '89 would have the flashbacks to Batman’s origin replaced with those from Begins.

The Schumacher films would have the color and general zaniness toned way down.

Overall, this idea probably wouldn’t work, but it’d be an interesting experiment.
