Info: How Many Versions are there of the AOTC?

Why? I own one version and already that’s too much.

I second that.

I’ve accepted that the theatrical prequels will probably never be officially released on modern formats and will likely become a historical curiosity. That’s what places like this are for.

Honestly, as long as they exist in some form to serve as said historical curiosity, that’s all that matters. Aside from replacing CPY, none of the changes are significant enough to notice without careful comparison. I guess having CPY in HD would kinda neat, but that’s about it.

I can’t believe we’re discussing how many slightly different official versions of AotC there are. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with, that; it’s just kinda funny.

If you could only remove one Special Edition change...?
Time

While my biggest grievances with the OT have been there since 1983, I can at least remove Jedi Rocks and reinsert Lapti Nek in its place. It won’t totally fix the movie, but it still makes that one scene a hell of a lot better. I absolutely love Lapti Nek.

And unlike many, I like the ANH Jabba scene (I’d been waiting for it since I read the comic and the script back in the 70’s). Same with the lone Biggs scene added.

I find it extremely pointless without the context provided by his earlier scene (which I think should’ve been added back as well).

Insert the Jabba Special Edition scene in ANH, but constantly morph between the human, CGI, and shitty 1997 CGI versions of Jabba.

WYSHS

I guess it would have to be that way. I envisioned it as it being Jabba every time the camera cuts back to him, but there’s one big problem with that: the whole scene is one continuous shot.

I like the R2 recoloring. Always strange that the droids were in the PT. If an edit made it so he had a different name (R4?) and this recolor it would probably work.

R2-[something else]? It would make the most sense in-universe and would avoid having to redub most lines. Captain Panaka reads out his full name in his introduction scene, so it would be established right away it’s not the same droid.

The Falcon? Ugly!?

She may not look like much, but she’s got it where it counts, kid.

I knew I had that one coming. To clarify, I quite the interior. It’s just the exterior I don’t like. It looks overly flat and awkward.

And like I said, I wouldn’t want to cut it just because I don’t like the exterior. The reason I’d replace is to give the ST a ship to call its own.

And I personally never had that huge a problem with the siblings either, I just think we’d be better off without it, specially because I find it hard to believe Luke and Leia are the same age in Star Wars. But that’s about it.

Which one do you think much younger? They look roughly the same age to me, but I’m curious.

I hate the sibling twist more than anything else in SW. It feels contrived, universe-shrinking, and ultimately pointless.

As to how Vader could provoke Luke (which is actually the alleged reason for including the twist in the first place), he does say the Dark Side is the only way to save his friends. Okay, I’ll admit that’s pretty weak, but I’d let it slide to not make them siblings any day. That said, I’d certainly prefer a better cause of provocation.

I wouldn’t mention the sister at all. I’d go as far as cutting Obi-Wan. The whole scenes feels… strange. In ESB he was always lurking around, telling people things through the force. He only shows up to help Yoda convince Luke not to leave. But in ROTJ he just shows up and has a full on conversation with Luke. Sort of takes away from his scarifce- Ben could have tought Luke as a ghost without Yoda. And then there’s the conversation itself, home to certain point of view, ghost on a log, and the sister reveal. I think it would be much more powerful if when Yoda dies Luke truly is alone.

Now I’d already intended to cut the sister aspect from my edit, but cutting Obi-Wan from that scene altogether is an idea I hadn’t considered, and definitely worth looking into.

Here’s some new ones.

A Very Rough rotoscope on Anakin on mustafar.

I’m honestly not sure which one is the original.

Goes to show how pointless this edit is. The right shot could be found in either environment with no rotoscoping required.

Im just doing this for Fun that’s all.

Just ignore him, he likes to be cool and pop up on threads just to tell people how “useless and stupid” their ideas are. Your ideas seem fun and creative and offer a different take on what could have been.

Excuse me?! That is not true.
