I also think we might try re-editing the Padme death scene in ROTS so that Leia is born first. If you remember, in the film as it is, not only is Luke born first, but he spends the most time with her; she even speeks to him, ad he is by her when she dies. However, we could re-edit it so that she says "Leia!" with the first birth, and move the line where she says "Luke" to after the second birth. We could remove the line entirely where she says "Oh, Luke" , as we would need to draw as much attention away from Luke as possible. This would help continuity with the ROTJ scene as well; Leia would appear to be the one by Padme at death.

Pathetic.

I'm pretty sure that they'll address that, as it is a major plothole. Though I doubt it will be in that way.

By the way, if you'll check the "ranch edit" thread over in "preservation and fan edits-star wars," I've just uploaded that " Leia remembers her mother" ROTJ scene, where I have slightly altered it so it makes sense. Check it out if you are so inclined.

Guys, I've just done a small re-edit of the scene in ROTJ where Leia remembers her mother but Luke doesn't. Well, in my version, Leia still does, but it works well because I've cut Luke's response of "I have no memory of my mother. I never knew her. This might be of help. I've uploaded it as an MPEG-1 file to rapidshare and it is only around 8 MB. Here's the link:

And I hope WE ARE DONE WITH THE STAR WARS ARGUMENT!! Seriously guy grow up. take a moment and look at what your arguing over. The name of the first SW movie. Call it whatever strikes your fancy, but please quit arguing about it.

-um you're on a Star Wars forum. This forum has a lot of big time Star Wars fans. What might matter very little to average people, matters alot to big time Star Wars fans.

(see the things that we hate thread)

Exactly.

Yeah, for someone to categorically dislike black and white films without even attempting to see the content is quite stupid. I assume that the person feels that way because they are a typical member of the MTV generation and look at all black and white films as "old and boring." Ugh. I mean, some are even shot in black and white to make a point (A Patch of Blue), or for effect (Schindler's List).

ESB (OOT version) - My thoughts
Time
As far as ANH goes, as I said before, I had already seen the original version of it. With ANH, I feel that the SE improved over most (but not all) elements that it attempted to improve. But you have to remember this is coming from someone who had seen the SE of it first. My opinion will unavoidably be biased on several things, just as those who had seen the OOT first are biased when seeing the SEs. Here' my thoughts on it:

*I do not like the original voice of Beru. It sounds less motherly and kind than the new voice.

*The original version portrays Mos Eisley as a very small, dirty town. The scene is also very quick in contrast to the SE, and doesn't let you see the city. Once again, the SE seems to improve this by opening up the city, as the SE of ESB did to Clud City. You see more of the residents going about their day to day lives. It seems more like a "living" space port than the original version, which seemed sort of deserted. Plus, I like the fact that he added the Outrider and a STE speeder into the scene to bring in elements from the EU.

*I HATE the fact that Greedo shoots first. Like many have said, it just messes with Solo's character. I think the 2004 edit of this scene improved it somewhat, as it would seem somewhat reasonable to believe that Solo would shoot at the same time Greedo was. Again, I don't care for it, but at least it was an improvement, and Lucas made a compromise with his fans.

*I do not like the Jabba that was inserted for the 97 SEs. That Jabba looked horrible. I do, however, like the scene itself, and I like the 2004 Jabba.

*I am neutral on the fact that he added more stormtroopers to the scene where Han shoots at them in the Death Star.

*The original Death Star space battle seems somewhat slower with the models. The CG gives the shot s amuch faster and more dynamic feel. It gives it more of the feel of a space battle. It was great that he replaced the takeoff sequence as well. In the original version, the ships were merely these white dots that zoomed off in the distance. With the special eidtions, you get to see and hear them taking off, which seems to highten the excitement for me.

Yeah, sometimes I can't stand our generation either. I have a friend who can't stand black and white movies. It doesn't matter what it is, she just takes a firm stand that they're boring. And that two of the three best movies ever made were made this year.

Yeah, I have a friend like that too. He dislikes B&W movies so badly, I couldn't even get him to watch Clerks. CLERKS, for God's sake!

I wonder how he would feel about Schindler's List, then.

No. I still prefer the Special Edition of ESB and the changes he made. I just said that I can appreciate and understand the original version now. For instance, although I really do like the matte paintings in the original version of ESB and the feeling they give everything, the CGI seems to really open up the city more as Lucas has said. I mean, now I can watch either version ajnd like it for what it is.

But I have a question. Since you were introduced to the Star Wars trilogy through the '97 Special Editions, weren't you already familiar with Clive Revil's Emperor?

Yes, but I haven't watched the 1997 special editions for a long time. I never reallized how great of a performance he actually gave (in contrast to Ian's in ESB).
