I hate it when parents try to tell you you're too old for something. (Hmm, I guess I'll end up writing this in the Things That We Hate thread) Damn societal pigeonhole rules. I'll do what I want, and idiots shouldn't be able to judge me. I just got back from a park where I was swinging on the swings fifteen minutes ago. Too old? Bah! Only when I can no longer stand will I be too old to play on a playground!

However, "Star Wars" from 1977 walked home with 7 oscars. Guess which boat that movie gets to float in with? That's right, "Casablanca," "Gone With the Wind," "Lawrence of Arabia," "Titanic," a whole plethora of outstanding acadamy award winning movies.

It was new. Vietnam was over. It was a breath of fresh air.

I don't. And I really don't think they were his intent, considering his proclamation that he wants everyone to view it as a saga; as one continuous movie. I was pointing out errors that he made. I wasn't criticizing him, just expressing that I was annoyed that errors exist. Most creative decisions that he makes are fine with me. It's the mistakes that he makes that diappoint me; when he accidentally does something, like when he forgot to fix the coloring of the lightsabers for the DVDs because the time was sort to finish them, and he was so concerned with the color timing that he didn't notice the changes in color the color timing made to the lightsabers.

OK, I've got something to yell about.

At the SW.com messgaeboards a few days ago, I posted a list of continuity errors I've found in Star Wars. Well, after checking back a few hours later, nearly every comment was some form of flaming for even insisting that there are errors. No joke. And they were trying to explain away even the Leia remembering Padme error. They were telling it to me as if it was some greater knowledge that I was too stupid to notice. And, of course, the mods had no problem with their flames. WTF?

'Merge' Article- Lucas in his own words
Time
One great recurring theme Lucas has now set up that works well is the fact that Palpatine thinks in ROTJ that he can get away once again with tricking a group of people into their own demise like he did in ROTS. Yet of course, his overconfidence was his weakness.

I think one of the reasons there are so many continuity errors in the films is because Lucas seems to look mostly at the big picture; he looks at it as an epic, and forgets a lot of the smaller details that he sees as less significant. It's the things like the recurring themes with Palpatine that he pays attention to.

Christ taught to love the sinner and not the sin, and I along with many others think that so-called Christian fundamentalists could learn a lot from practicing what they preach. Telling gays and lesbians they're going to rot in hell for the way they live their lives is just nonsensical. If people can understand that I appreciate them for who they are rather than what they define themselves as, I have succeeded in making my point.

Jerry Falwell could learn a thing or two from you.

Seriously, there need to be more of the Christians with your track of thought about homosexuals. It is sad when some of them outright wish for the gays to go to hell like people like Jerry Falwell and those fundamentalists do. I wonder what Christ would have to say about that?

What are your preconceptions of the live-action TV series, CO?

For me, I can't get into the books

Believe me, there are some that actually feel like a SW movie. You might try some of the first few books from the early 90's. Those were the well-thought out books, but after those, they started to publish books like crazy, and the quality of stories diminished. So I don't blame ya about not finding the modern books interesting.

ROTS won best movie at Peoples Choice Awards, and Lucas was there to receive it:

He was there with his daughter, and seems like a really good family man and that is why I like him, until........he goes into his usually SW acceptance speech......

"I know Star Wars has never won that many awards. (Pause) "And has never been loved by the critics." (Pause, to get a couple of applause.) "Critics have not been my biggest fans." (more applause) "They are usually controlled by the Studios" (Pause) "The reason I make these movies......is for the fans!" (Loud applause)

This is vintage Lucas, aww shucks, every fan loves these movies, just the critics hate them, and that is why we don't win awards. The last time I checked the original SW was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, and was nominated in the big categories: Best Picture, Best Director, and Alec Guiness for Best Supporting Actor, thats right an actor was nominated for his performance in a SW movie, because they usually say the OT performances were just as bad as the PT ones. Star Wars took home 7 awards that night, while being the #1 movie at the box office in 1977.

Message to George: Yeah, there are always critics who don't love every movie, that is natural, but you made that classic one in 1977, which was loved by critics, fans, and the studios, and do you know why? It's a great movie!

And when you said you do it for the fans at the end of your speech, the only ones you keep forgetting are the millions of fans from 1977-83 who can't see those original films anymore on DVD. Sometimes I believe Lucas has selective memory....

The thing about the original SW film is that it was new for its time. Period. It was refereshing and that's why people liked it so much. As one guy said in the Empire of Dreams documentary "You bring it out too early, and it's Buck Rogers. You bring it out too late, it flops. But if you bring it out right when the war in vietnam was ending, it's a hit." or something like that.
