 Don't be shy ;) Let's see

Well, it's more simple than the original in a way and I think it works better. It gave me the will to play around. There's obviously a problem with this painting, but that's not a good reason enough to replace it with another one *imho*.

I love McQuarries' concept paintings notably for their somehow "naive" touch, and because there are a lot of things unsaid that your imagination will continue... But his matte paintings are always flat, mold and coldly executed.

Anyway... the air is pure, then not thick, the sun gives, I would then propose at least to temper light and shadows relations in another way, not mentionning the colors. Yet after 15 or 20 minutes it gives another result that I think more "realistic", but don't know if it matches with the whole sequence... (the shadows in the room would perhaps deserve to be darkened too, not sure).

Skipping the dark awful building on the left should do the trick...

... Now go back to work.

And that tall tower in the back looks like something from Dubai.

It stroke my eyes too !

... Funny to notice that if you search for city + clouds on Google, the more notable pictures that may be used for the Empire one as immediate references (I don't dare to say "inspiration" as this word is very heart-related in my language) are justly Dubai !...

... Is Culture and Creativity narrowing ?

I have nothing against digital paintings that I happen to use myself but the lazyness of mind that comes with it is sometimes quite... Obvious.

I mean this as a general statement, not personal to Vaderios.

Being happy with it yourself is most important. I hope you are able to be fully satisfied with it someday. ;)

Thanks ! You know how this is, when you are entirely in the action and can't visualise the end result before the final touch, following your first idea like a blind man and can only "see" - and only parts of the whole - when you stop. And then, what a reward indeed when it comes to match with the idea that you had forgotten since a while !... The idea beeing here two different "at the top" listening experiences, from both assemblage and temper point of views.

I have a load of tiny corrections (editing and light balance rectifications) that only the equipment I'm working with is currently slowing down (two computers, one on wich I can't hear a damn thing and an old one wich has too few free memory but sounds ace, what forces me to juggle to death between them), not mentionning that I don't want to put entirely my free time in it anymore.

Excepted that, all my settings are now fixed and the definitive assembled panel go beyond my expectations or at least fully match with those, really. Just so you know that "someday" has happened. ;)

A well thought thematic revisitation of the score would be far more interesting to me. Notably as it has been especially composed to allow that.

But my only plan about ESB for the future is to be able to sit and listen with nothing to ask from it anymore... And I'm within an ace of such a set: a matter of days.

Savage,

considering the new material provided by the current set your wishes may be easy to fix for yourself, even if you're new with sound. I just don't see the interest of such a disc four for myself... Changes don't mean improvements.

The RSO LP has been edited has this to provide a vinyl listening experience = splitted in four sides. It was not meant to be experienced in one stroke. That's one of the reason why they spread the tracks as they did. ;)

Well, final or not, I'll be sure to give it a listen - so far your work on the soundtracks has been outstanding. At the very least I have (another) excuse to put my neighbors through another round of TESB's music!

I can't tell you what it sounds like now without sounding pretentious...! :\ ;) Just be sure that I explored every possibilities I was able to find to give this score the best it can, and that it made me discovered two times more things to be fixed.

Notably accurate EQ's showed how the balance may be wrong on numerous tracks, when on the original releases you sometime can't really get it even if you know it.

I can only feel sorry for your neighbours who surely will pray for the London Symphony Orchestra to leave your living room !

The only thing I do not like at all is that I don't have a color printer... there goes the slick cover art and booklet for me! :'(

Haha ! Funny smiley with the tear. Well, I'll make at least two sets of covers, so one very simple only with the main liner notes on 6 pages approximatively (and they're black and white... Convenient !). I guess not everybody has the chance to have the facilities to assemble the booklet anyway, and even knowing how to make it it may be a headache for me too, to do it right. Haha, skilled hands required.

At least such a ESB set will have been done as it deserved, from Α to Ω .

Looking forward to this one!

Samples will be completely posted in a couple of days I hope. I'll post several comparison bunches. The first one may be ready in a few hours though...

... Check post 1. Sorry for the delay.

I want the cover to be the simplest as possible. I would prefer the style A or B posters but they are too talkative... The score is rich enough and doesn't need them as covers.

It doesn't change my idea for the sleeves. Now if you check at the previous page, I slightly prefer my "reconstitution" of the one you just posted... Notably the colors.

Anyway, I'm not too much involved with this work these time. The finishing of the sound is too hot.

I don't care about money. So no It's a good idea to give to people who can't pay me. I work for the project and not for the money.

If I can't work for money and if you think that is wong, I'll never put my clp on the net.

I Hope one day money 'll be free!

Love the free work!

 Oh, ok.

... I understand now why my salary has become so low these times ! You young people (now I'm sure, it's signed) are able to accept ANYTHING. You don't think of any consequences, and you'll wonder later why all is falling down. (And I don't wonder anymore why there's so much amateurs around me when I work in a studio !).

Think twice. Bye.

Edit & PS: I used to think like you... Before.

I know many here would love to see a mock-up of how you would do the shot. We're easily enthralled by a good mock-up! :)

... I can hear from here: "Who's this guy speaking?"... :)

Well, sorry for that. I'm lurking this thread since a couple of weeks and I must admit I don't quite catch who's involved, and I'm still  wondereing if people making mock-ups like Vaderios does are only here to show their skill or if they are really working on the Revisited project. In the first case it would be a huge loss of time and a pointless spent of skills... Now, the only thing I know is that I'm not involved, no regret nor bitterness about it, just looks like some people are made to meet each others, or not.

I didn't mean to convince anybody here about what I'm able to do. Now, I find funny that I'm on these board sharing something dedicated to sound restitution since a time from now while I never shown any of my personnal nor professional visual works that could attract or interest many people there. The reason is simple and I'm sure I don't need to explain about it: that's just private.

Just for fun, and to give my words a little credibility will I let you see some 12 years old paintings I've reproduced from SW shots or matte paintings (my only SW related picture works). These (edit: link removed) will not show you any of my creative skills, but rather my first steps as a learner a "long time ago" :). These were acrylics on woodboard, were all about 1,20m long and were direct copies = not layered, so please be gentle (these are scans of paper photos, sorry for the dust and grains). The time for execution was between 1 and 2days with one exception. I don't use acrylics anymore but oils, though I'm familiar and (even) good with 2D and 3D cgi too.

But for now I'm involved in all another genre of work on OT.com. and that's yet quite something. ;)

... Sorry for the (half) off topic !

Yeah, I like both the SE and your previous effort with it;)

Less than a half was from the SE. But I really compared for this one and indeed a few tracks were better to be taken from the SE.

Now that I know that the Antho is a film mix and the SE a repix of the 24 tracks, + the RSO the 24 tracks mix for soundtrack... It needs a new reading.

I wasn't so serious about it, but with the experience you have now and your recent wonders with Empire it could possibly be even better. But is it really worth it?

It require a very attentive listening, because some mixes are more interesting / or dynamic / or better done than others on each release (and some are missed, notably on the RSO, as stated by the infos you gave me, while other tracks sound exceptional). A judicious compilation and restoration could be "audiophile". But it would cost me too much now. That's a lot of work (btw, I have a thread for this project... Just so you know. lol)

(Edit)... Oh and the SW sound salvage version was only a first step, I mean these tracks were somehow a first mixing. I didn't go further thinking it sounded good enough at the time :)

No, sorry you are mistaken. That's actually one shot that wasn't touched in the SE

Looking at the matte painting done for revisited I feel sorry you declined my proposal for a couple of matte, mate (because of my "old" technics if I remember...

Not a critiscism of what have been done though, only I just had a flash at the moment I checked the pictures in your post, seeing the "ideal" background that would have given this plan such a depht as Luke would have looked more lost again into the set, with a simple and effective architectural/perspective effect.

Oh well... just sharing a thought. Perhaps I forgot to mention it is more or less my real job, I don't think I did. ;)
