Some explanations ARE NOT NECESSARY.

 Of course they're not.

Star Wars and Empire were mostly great because all of the "non-said" about the Force notably. That makes things deeper and allows you to open your mind and make your own observations on the relationships between what is shown and what you understood or what as been said but justly not explained... Even when you are 10 years old !

That is the greatest thing I'll remember about the OT.

The Force was strong with those films !

Info: ¤ RETURN OF THE JEDI ¤ Score Restoration - another OPTIMUM SET ?...
Time

Burdokva said:

I would like that! RotJ is the worst sounding of the three, especially the Endor battle tracks - even with your previous restoration, which upped the quality, it sounded different and more compressed than the rest.

I hope you are not talking about the tracks I show on post 2, as they are to me the best exemples on my previous work of what RotJ should give... That would be ironical for the least. :)

... I wouldn't mind even if you released a few of the worst sounding tracks with a better, restored quality.

A great wise said: "Pour pure water in mud and you will obtain... Mud!".

Following this advise I stick on a 1CD project and rather enjoy and put all my energy in the best tracks... There are enough. Without the few "worst tracks" on ESB from CD2 ("Betrayal", "Deal with the Dark Lord", "Darth Vader's Trap"), I would have finished the set since a long time as I would have been able to concentrate further on the most important. But I didn't want to neglect anything.

The tracks you're referring to are too much time (and humor) consuming, notably for a result that won't worth it (I know what they can give, and what they can't).

I think you over estimate me ! ;)

I must say I love the alternate mix on "The Rebels Escape" with its louder layer, both are very good, but I think this one is the winner, I'm starting to see what you mean by saying CD3 is the real gem ;) Powerful & dynamic! (...)

Ok, so here's the deal about this track (what withdraws my last thoughts about it)...

CD1 will have "The Rebel Escapes" version without the RSO LP layer.

... (Edit)

CD1 will finally have the lower layered track.

CD3 will provide the version with the louder LP layer as I've been able to render this special mix in all its... "awesomeness" ?

... If you didn't get my attention on the sample of this track I may have not noticed I posted a better version than on my actual rough CD3 (a long story...) Indeed I somehow lost the settings of the sample version. lol ! This one allowed me to verify than it could sound more natural. The last EQ's I tried on it may be even better. Let's see.

I had always thought it was his hand. But according to the script:

There is an ominous cracking sound from the base of the weather vane and a piece breaks off, falling into the clouds far below.

I always thought it was, if not his hand, his lighsaber (the thing falls fast).

Though it can be his hand still holding his lightsaber... But, in the last case the lightsaber shouldn't be switched off...

The only thing that bothers me anyway in all this is the shout of luke when he has his hand cut. I'm sure any one of us would have no time to feel or realise anything if a lightsaber stroke cutted our own hand...

... Hey Ripplin ! How do you say:"J' en mettrais ma main à couper" in English ?... :)

Is my DVD to WAV audio rip real lossless ?...
Time

Moth3r said:

The easiest way would be to use DVD Decrypter in IFO mode, with stream processing enabled, to extract the audio track you need.

Indeed, easy to do... But that's where I'm entering a new world that is all what I'd liked to avoid... I expected to have directly a AC3 or PCM file...

... Of course not. That leads to seek for another tool to convert the Vob to wav. isn't it ? Why did I felt it ?

Also I still don't know about what is made such a track of, if it is possible to remove SFX from it etc... Because if I convert a Vob to Wav, I guess it can't be anything else than a 2 stereo track.

Well... Does it really make a difference with the Microsoft Sound Recorder ?

Edit: ah... as far as I understand now watching the DVD Decrypter screen, looks like the AC3 as 6 Channels and the PCM as 2...

I even don't have a 5.1 plugin on my PC so you know !

Please Savage, read about the two versions of the End Title in the remixing details... (And note that I mentionned both film & album version).

Also we had 3 pages of discussion about this in the OE thread, and my last post about it is here.

EDIT:

 22. The Rebel Fleet / Finale (Film Version)
· Same as track 13, expended with intro from "Yoda And The Force", the "Imperial March" is replaced here with its alternate from the film version End Titles (Anthology bonus track).

... it was pretty apparent different sources were used to compile it.  Especially so when the Imperial March kicks in.

I, myself, used the "same" source (but of course the recording doesn't).

That is apparent on all releases (thought quite hidden with noise perhaps) ;) ... So, yep. I'd be glad you let me know if I made a miracle. Beside, you'll be able to compare for yourself with the original.

I don't know which version of the slipcase I like best.

I may stick on the two very first ones, with a slightly smaller Executor ship (in a way it is just a bit longer than the logo).

That black and white group photo would also make a nice, very unique cover, especially as just about every release of the ESB soundtrack in the past has been very dark.

You just rode my thoughts ! ;)

... But I must admit I don't care much for that font you are using for text. Still, I can't wait to see where you are going to take this project next!

This font is more a convenience for me. I tried many and it's hard to find a typo that fit with SW or mostly ESB (and don't want to use the SW font that belongs to the logo). Just I have to go deeper in finding the right spaces and sizes I think.

Both SE and Anthology use a bankgothic style font, and I ve seen it enough.

For inside text and Backcover titles I use a very simple font (Lucida style).

Nice to read you again guys.

The main difference between the previous OEv.2 and OEv.3 was about the choices for EQ's... v3 was mostly rounder. But no big editing difference.

Well, taking my time for the new ESB set was not too much a luxury. I've gone deeper into the balance matter for many tracks of the Anthology and SE and found out (now for sure) that it is one major fault that spoils the sound of many of these cues, and that fixed balances allow you to find most accurate EQ's.

I also corrected all the balances on the "Rebel Fleet/End Titles" and it now really seems to be played in one stroke (sample will be updated soon).

Not mentionning the huge improvement thanks to the use of the whole RSO LP... Don't want to make you starving guys but I bet you may be stunned by the new layers. Msycamore has heard the half of it and admited he didn't bielieve since the first OE the whole sound could become that "great" (... So far I didn't believe myself !). ;)

Besides, I wouldn't have dared to use the word of "audiophile" if it was not the case.

It's 2.

At any rate, this Audiophile Edition is the one I'm looking forward to the most! Great project!

You're welcome ! ;)

I plan to reup a bunch of updated samples in a very few days, notably with confrontation against the other releases.

P.S. That's a Mussorgsky LP in your avatar, isn't it? :)

Yes it was... A few hours ago ! We agree on this one with Eyeshotfirst :)

I think that out of the 6 receivers I've had, only the first one--an ancient Toshiba or something that I kinda miss--had positive numbers. Hadn't really thought of it before.

It is possible to find such material at five minutes from my home (I'm not in a big town), for between $30 and $50...

I actually have an old Sansui amplifier (1982) I bought E40, and an old Marrantz CD player I bought E30... No guaranty, but works fine. ;)
