Yes, it works 😃

But I’d make it shorter, this should be like the troopers searching Tatooine’s desert. Just a few seconds.

You can also place a Destroyer in orbit of the planet (so we understand where the transmission is coming from), and intercut the stormtroopers with the hologram (break the sentences on “rebel base”).
Breaking the sentences makes it look as if the communication was longer and we are only seeing the important bits, it becomes more dynamic.

But it’s fine as it is, just sharing ideas 😃

Info Wanted: Godzilla 1985 - 5.1 Upmix Project (Can anyone do this?)
Time

What you are describing is redoing the entire sound mix… There’s no easy way to separate the elements from the mono mix. At least not with the usual sound editing software. So it would be months of work. Also few people have a 5.1 system on their computer for sound mixing… I don’t 😃

Yet I think something can be done. I suggest doing it in steps.

First, go for a simpler Stereo mix, where you just add music from the stereo soundtrack recording.
There might be problems with this, since the mono mix already has the music in (phasing and time problems), but it’s worth a try.

Second, look at the Japanese version. It needs to be recut to match the US version I think, but if it’s usable (no sudden changes in music or sound effect it should be usable. The Blue Ray already has an English dub with surround sound…

I don’t mind giving this a look, PM me so we can discuss it a bit more.
No promises but I’d like to help 😃

Looking at IMDB, the Japanese version was in Dolby.
If you playback a Dolby track on any surround amp, you get a nice 5.1 up-mix. It works because the system is the same, they just called it Dolby for theaters and Dolby Surround for home.
PC playback will also get you 5.1 sound (many codecs do this).
So you don’t need to upmix it, just let the player do it’s work.

The US version is mono, so there’s not much that can be done there.
You could in theory create a new mix using the stereo and surround channels from the Japanese version and the US mono as the center channel… but the edits are different, right ?

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time

Well, the higher the resolution the better it compresses, specially for the same amount of global detail.
That’s because pixel level artifacts and macroblocks become smaller in comparison 😃

With sound it’s the same, we use 48kHz and 32bit compression to reduce artifacts.
But the actual source material might only needs 32kHz and 12 bit in terms of actual detail.

I understand the reasoning behind using 720p for ANH and I agree for uncompressed images.
But for compressed videos, you need a higher resolution to keep all the 720p detail. And most people are likely to see highly compressed versions 😉

Here’s an interesting example with images (Higher resolution or lower compression JPG’s?):

Resolution always wins 😃

Yes, that is a problem. But perhaps you can crop or stabilize some scenes from these:

Thinking about some closeups of storm troopers patrolling and looking, just a few seconds at most.
Then you cut to the hologram.

Great work on those lightsabre videos!

For the Vader vision, how about a black or dark grey background, like Rey in the cave 😃 ?
Makes sense since the situation is the same: a character facing himself.

I like that you have used a bit of the Tusken village.
I suggest that when we get to this latter on, Anakin finds his mother already dead inside the tent.
Makes perfect sense symbolically I think.

… the only place I’ve ever watched it was actually on my laptop.

As others mentioned, some movies need a “cinematic” experience to work. It’s related to pacing, photography, sound design, absence of distractions, etc. On a small screen you don’t notice certain details that keep you engaged.

Check if there’s some theater running classical movies around you. It’s a completely different experience. A good example is 2001. Slow movie if you watch it at home, feels tense and fast paced in the theater.

Well I would not just cut Kamino, but change and reorder most of the first half of the movie.

Indeed, the movie has very little decent action on the first part (the city chase is poor).
So the fight on Kamino needs to stay. Perhaps move it to the beginning so that you have:
» Open with Obi-wan at Kamino
» Fight with Jango
» Coruscant with the usual Padme stuff
» Bar sequence, Obi-wan sees Jango again
» Obi-wan goes to Geonosis chasing Jango

STAR WARS: EP VI -RETURN OF THE JEDI "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - ** PRODUCTION HAS NOW RESTARTED **

I’d use the metal thing on the cap as grey/white reference, not the uniform.
The revisited version seems OK to me.

The link posted by Adiwan ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feldgrau ) also shows a range of colors corresponding to Feldgrau. Modern variants and photos point towards a slight green tint, but it can also look grey, olive, brown, etc.
Depends on illumination and actual tissue I guess, but I agree that a very slight green hue would be OK.

There are some extra sequences of the crew running and doing repairs, but it’s mostly unconnected to the rest of the action. So I don’t think there’s much more to add…

Here are the next sequences. Used some Rogue One and Battlefront II footage.

This one is a mix of “4: Change of Strategy” + “5: Taking out the jamming Star Destroyer”.
Here they take out a normal star destroyer. I’m aware of the B-Wing cockpit mismatch of course.

“6 - Attack on the Super Star Destroyer”
This is where the B-wings would come in, but there’s no footage available for it.

As always a rough cut just to see if it works. On my opinion it does 😃

Here’s a new version of the second space battle sequence.

Integrated the guy repairing the Falcon (“pressure steady”) and added the gunner firing. Also some reordering of a couple of sequences and initial color correction.

Still rough and needs more work, but it’s getting there.

It’s all looking quite good. Return of the Jedi, while they upped the technicality of some of the effects work, it just hasn’t aged very nicely.

Yes the effects are problematic. You can see that they blue screened stuff on layers, with each layer having a different color shift. And there are some continuity problems on some sequences, fixable if you reedit according to the original intended scene sequences. This is specially noticeable on the space battle.

Star Wars: Remastered - A New Special Edition (* unfinished project *)
Time

Very impressed with those 3D models.
Once I tried to render the Enterprise-A using a very good model, matching the original lightning and materials. I was able to do it, but only after adding dozens of lights and the render times were insane for animation:
It looked better than the original movie models ( Star Trek V 😉 ) though.

So I guess here it will be the same. If you need some help with rendering or Blender latter on, PM 😉
It’s your show, but rendering the entire movie (with better quality than the original) will be too much for a single person.
