Good stuff with the opening. It works well 😁
Good stuff with the opening. It works well 😁
Those desert scenes are almost impossible to color correct…
I like the planet shot, looks like something out of the prequels, but the clouds are still cyan. 😉
The concept art for Bespin had windows (see http://filmsketchr.blogspot.com/2014/12/freeze-your-at-at-off-with-star-wars.html ):

So on this regard the SE is not adding anything 😉
Dat_SW_Guy, great work with that explosion. I really like it!
This is more of what I’m doing with Jar Jar: https://youtu.be/3FRqQt7N4q0
I liked it 😃
My only suggestion is that use Jar Jar to give some backstory.
Have him provide details about Naboo, the creatures and politics, and make that the reason Qui-gon keeps him around.
Same here, it’s quite good. As with every series, some episodes are better than others. But so far the standard it high.
Eps. 1 to 3 would make a good fanedit movie.
I like your opening video. Just a few suggestions:
For the desert barge shots, your twin suns don’t match the light direction. Light is coming from the top right there.
And add some subtle shaky camera movement to all those shots. It’s a bit odd that the cameraman is completely static when they are going up and down dunes !
Jedi needs lots of small tweaks 😃
Well, the praxis wave is so dated by now that it’s sort of a classic…
(sorry for editing my posts in real time, I was trying to make them clearer)
Yes try it. I’m going to Dagobah just after Vader arrives:
https://streamable.com/5vc2k
Luke’s reaction is perfect here, he seems to respond to Vader’s mental search.
Of course, you can do it your way 😃
More consistent = Luke starting on the Light side on Dagobah and then becoming Darker.
You see the darker Luke entering the palace. And the rest of the action… it’s borderline dark side.
The same with using the Ewoks later on, again a bit dark. And the going to Vader (killing the Emperor is still killing), etc.
This linear progression also makes the audience wonder. Will Luke return to the light side by the end of the movie?
For me opening on Dagobah kind of spoils it.
It’s as if Luke goes dark one day, light the next, then dark, … 😉
I like the new Palace and color corrections 😃
May I suggest that you try to have Luke on Dagobah before the palace stuff ?
Yes that creates some minor problems (fleet reunion) but also makes his character more consistent.
It seems to have amplified video artifacts (edge unsharp) and not real detail… Limitations of the source material I think.
I confuse the Fetts 😉
The homing beacon idea is good.
I think it would work best if we briefly saw Fett around the falcon. Even with Solo there there’s no problem.
Solo leaves in a hurry, so no time to search for the tracker.
Him latter being on the Deathstar also seems possible. We only need to see him there, no need for dialog.
Very interesting ideas!
This is a good idea.
But I’d use Jabba’s dialog from the SE scene and add the shot of Jango in Jabba’s palace.
I’d also cut to Jabba after Han shoots Greedo. Jabba knows about his somehow, and sends Jango to pressure Solo one last time. Latter on we show Jango + thugs by the falcon (ending of the SE scene). Perhaps keeping of Solo’s dialog in the distance as Luke arrives.
So it’s the same story as the SE, but with no CGI 😁. Also a nice introduction to Jango.
I actually love the Metropolis reconstruction with dubbed dialog, but that’s another discussion 😉
Looking at your list, perhaps you should try a “miniseries” format ?
Add those images/ narration as recaps/teaser and edit an “episode” for each plot point.
Repeat scenes if needed, perhaps to give different character POVs.
You might get something similar to Game of Thrones out of it…
In the context of TLJ, having a leader with an unconventional look makes sense.
She’s the antagonist of Poe. Poe is one of the heroes, so if you feel Holdo is out of place, that means that the film is working.
If the edit is trying to remove or tone down the Poe/Holdo conflict, then yes a more conventional look works best.
I find the acting on the latest movies OK to good. There are problems with script, dialog and directing, but not with the acting itself. I expect the same from TROS. If it’s bad it won’t be because of the actors.
Looking forward to it!
Text + narration over moving images might also work latter on (as we discussed before).
I have no problem with reframed or recycled footage being used on this context.

So here is a brief text to try and now set up the prologue narration…
Yes, text + narration might work. It’s uncommon but it might work here.
I’m looking at the Emperor - Battle for Dune cutscenes, and you have two fremen discussing Harkonen oppression there (second Atreides cutscene). Quality is too low to use the visuals, and there’s music in the background. But it might be usable.
All modern TVs come with a “calibrated” mode, usually called “movie” or “cinema”.
That’s quite close to calibrated settings, and unless you have measurement equipment (*), it’s as good as you will get.
If your TV is 1-2 years old it should be quite good really.
I have my TV set like this (movie), but with higher brightness that default for SDR. I see no problem with personal preference, as long as you keep the baseline in mind.
You can check this even with no equipment.
Whites on the TV should match these references 😉
“In this case I optimized the display for HDR content in general, which always appeared somewhat dark, flat, and desaturated on my TV screen, compared to SDR content even if the dynamic range was obviously increased.”
The problem is that most people have their TVs set with very high SDR brightness levels.
At least for me the recommended SDR brightness of 100 to 200 nits (according to sources, most mention 100) is just too dark…
So yes, HDR will look dark in comparison, but that’s how it was mastered…
When the Atreides land at Arrakis the fremen are watching from a distance. You might be able to add narration there.
A text report might also work (why not)
The problem is that we never get a sense of the oppresssion the harkonnens inflicted on the fremen and how the atreides were much more compassionate.
Indeed. Perhaps you can source something from the TV series ? It’s hard because visually they don’t match…
“there are all new scenes create for the game or some cut scenes from the movie?”
New scenes created for the game(s), Dune 2000 uses some movie elements as stock footage.
Emperor: Battle for Dune has more interesting scenes. Here the Fremen fight the Harkonen:

I wonder if one could rip the cinematics in better quality…
Again 100% agree. If you are able to show the water sellers that would be great.
Related to narration, perhaps the cutscenes from Dune2000 (game) offer something usable.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7Is3sVVniQ
For example, around 29:00 they talk about the shield wall being breached.
The visuals are too low resolution but perhaps the audio is usable.
You also have cutscenes from Emperor: Battle for Dune. Here are some:
