I like the atmosphere effect and color fix on the Deathstar. But forround is still brown and lacks contrast. Jedi is full of these compositing problems. It’s a shame they never recomposited the effects digitally…

On my end, after many tries, I think I’m able to edit the rebel briefing without Luke’s late arrival. And also place him a bit higher up on the Resistance hierarchy.

I don’t want to derail IlFanEditore’s thread so I’ll only post it here if he’s interested 😉

Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *

I’ve never been able to figure out how to do this, though I’ve been told my entire life that it would increase my enjoyment of movies considerably.

Then I guess you went do see the wrong movie for you 😁

For the record my top movie of all time is probably Stalker, so yes, I enjoy adult cerebral stuff.

But if you want to enjoy blockbusters then yes, shutting down your brain helps 🤣

Wait…am I the only one who interpreted the Leia/Ben scene as Leia “inhabiting” Ben’s spirit to try to turn him, which distracts him so Rey can stab him, which ends up killing Leia?

Not the only one. It’s a possible interpretation. TROS is open to interpretation on that regard.

TROS has parallels to themes straight out of Christian Theology (resurrection, trinity etc). People still debate those after centuries 😉

Whatever you got out of the movie is true to you.

I don’t think you gain anything with the flashbacks.

You have Alec Guinness and Mark Hamill, two great actors, together.
If anything we want to see more of them, with less distractions, not cut away to other stuff.

I get that you want to do one cohesive saga.
But remember that Obi-Wan is not being 100% truthful and tells it to Luke (“from a certain point of view”).
On the prequels he’s also like that, he’s not a 100% pure character.

So I’d keep that dialog as it is, since it gives the saga a more mature undertone.
The Jedi are “good” but not saints 😉

*addendum: is it possible to kill off Leia in her ship (TLJ)? I’d think that that’d be narratively speaking the best place for it to happen.

No, you need her to turn Kylo into Ben, thus eventually resurrecting Rey.
It’s Leia’s power that allows Ben to do that (besides defeating the Knights of Ren and surviving a death pit) 😉

Many good ideas, for me the easiest changes (given the existing footage) might be:

 • Palpatine can be revealed much earlier just by visions and transmissions (on TROS the transmission is a simple text).
 • Star Destroyer cannons might be connected to Starkiller base firing.

These 2 things give plenty of options regarding story, as others have said above.

when Ben died at the end it made both bodies vanish because he took her with him.

I interpreted that the other way around.
Leia becomes one with Ben (sort of force projects into him), mirroring Luke’s sacrifice in TLJ.

This explains why he’s able to fight the Knights of Ren, survive the death pit and transfer life into Rey (*).
It’s Ben’s + Leia (as a full jedi master) combined powers. So when Ben dies, they both “rise” at the same time, since they are joined by the force.

(*) While Rey is dead, Ben is the last living Jedi.

I enjoyed TROS and for me it’s the best of the ST. I didn’t like TLJ.
So I suggest a two movie structure, based on TFA and TROS and using as little of TLJ as possible.
I’d move as much of the flashback stuff (ex: TLJ Ben Solo stuff, TROS Rey family) into the first movie and shorten the derivative plot elements as much as possible (ex: less running around inside starkiller base).

Looking good 😉

(Don’t mean to steal the thread, but since this was discussed before…
I’ve been trying to make Luke start on Dagobah work, but the briefing/reunion scenes on the Rebel Cruiser are a problem. I need to somehow place Luke in the crowd and do closeups of him, but there’s very little footage available for this. So it might not be possible after all…)
