Top work! Really liked it š
Iām surprised by the prequel feel. Itās the new color grading perhaps!

Not sure Added Lucrehulk, Hammerhead and U-wing to a couple of shots during the battle. They are from YouTubeās green screen, so Iāll keep them if they are at least bearable.
In the background and slightly blurred the should look fine. Try the fan film āBattle of the Dreadnoughtsā for some extra battle footageā¦
Not sure Added a couple of shots from deleted scenes (probably the rebels firing from the Falconās turrets).
Yes, because those guys are seen behind Lando and then disappear. And if Iām not mistaken one of the dudes is seen on TROS firing the turret š
(Iād also recommend you add some of the bunker action, to make up for the trimmed Ewok action)
About the Obi/Mace scene and the theatrical version with Obi/Mace/Yoda do we really need it in the movie ?
We have a previous Jedi council scene where they assign the Kamino mission, and there should be some urgency to this.
Itās odd having Obi-Wan speaking to Mace in a relaxed manner when he needs to pursue the Bounty Hunter.
So Iād just cut this scene out.
V2 is better, but the music must canāt start over Han and Lukeās dialog. It feels out of place and disconnected from their conversation. But it plays well over the space scenes.
Just to add that the colorspace on those LDs is different from whatās used today on most devices (sRGB).
In fact, there are 3 NTSC color spaces, with the older ones having more information than sRGB:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_spaces_with_RGB_primaries#Specifications_with_RGB_Primaries
And those LDs might even use the older (pre 1987) NTSC primaries ( https://www.saji8k.com/displays/color-space/ntsc-1953/ ), that give a larger color space than sRGB.
This is technical, but something to take into account if you are interested in preserving the original color timing.
You need to convert the colorspace to get that.
A quick conversion of the stills posted above to sRGB gives me this:
No clue on how to do it for a video fileā¦
Iāll explain better later, but you can check AOTC for good examples of digital zooming and panning š
ā¦
OK hereās a good example of what Iām talking about:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mDyGc68hpM
All the zooms and most of the pans on that video are digital. That is, they were added in editing to create dynamic and better framing. You can do the same with Jediās mostly static effect shots. Just donāt go crazy with it, zoom only up to 105%, it doesnāt need much.
(if you like the video please subscribe to the channel - itās mine š and it really needs a boost š )
Subtle but good color correction š
The second image shows how uninspired ROTJ can be. Just look at that framing, with half the image showing⦠trees.
One think you can do to improve this is to crop and reframe shots, adding some minor camera movement or zoom.
Lucas does the same on the prequels so itās fair game I think!
That deleted conversation bothers me a lot because it should be in the movie. I canāt figure out why they added āmaclunkeyā but not this bit of dialogā¦
Good work on the shoot out!
For the the main problem remaining in your version is that we hear those arms grabbing the Tantive, but on the exterior shot the ship is still being pulled.
Perhaps you can use some Rogue One footage to make up for the missing footage ?
Thereās a shot from the Destroyer towards the Tantive that might work.
How 'bout adding the Emperor to ANH as well?
Heās mentioned:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Erf6s_wYJk
āThis Sith Lord sent by the Emperorā
Just use that dialog over establishing shotsā¦
About new mattes, the problem is that new art is mostly CGI and it doesnāt match with the rest.
If we had replacement paintings (could be based on CGI elements, but with the style needs to be hand painted) it might work.
Yet Iāve also looked everywhere for better backgrounds but there arenāt anyā¦

Frankly I donāt think TLJ contradicts TFA, itās really only TLJ and TRoS that cause issues with each other.
Strongly disagree here.
The characters are not the same between TLJ and the other two. Itās like we are seeing alternate universesā¦
Letās consider Lukeās sabre. If you go with TLJ take on the universe, the sabre is not important.
But itās central to TFA and very important in TROS. Thatās a contradiction to me š
This is not about liking TJL or not. I donāt, but Iād still love to see a ST redux expanding on itās themes š
I like the new colors and light effects š

Geonosis is also poorly edited with many out of sequence scenes.
Could you elaborate on what is specifically out of sequence? I donāt recall anything out of sequence continuity wiseā¦Or are you referring to overall tone?
The most noticeable part is Maceās entrance.
Itās possible to tighten it and the interaction with Jango, Doku & Mace.
Hereās my version: https://streamable.com/tqa5n
Just sharing because it explains better what I mean, I donāt wish to hijack the thread.
My point is just that Geonosis can be improved š

Iām not really interested in a trilogy redux as much as a standalone edit of TROS that fits better with the other two.
To get a coherent trilogy, you need a redux.
Saw the first few minutes. Editing itself is good, but the opening doesnāt work for me. Specially the forest scene, it doesnāt match the style of the movie at all.
But I really like the way dialog is edited, itās well done and a improvement over the original. Good work š
Lord of the Rings had official extended editions of all movies, so thereās precedent.
But they are focused on streaming. If it does come out, it will be on their service (again, thereās precedent with the 4K versions).
If I may, I suggest you start by tackling the pursuit/disco scene and the Geonosis arena fight.
For me those are the most challenging sequences regarding action sequence tone. Geonosis is also poorly edited with many out of sequence scenes. I think that if you succeed in getting them right, the rest of the edit will go smoothly.
Are you considering story changes or sequence reorder ?
I have some suggestions based on things Iāve tried and work well, but donāt want to steal your thread š
Yes, a physical fight. They fight somewhere (some planet, doesnāt matter where) as a flashback, just like the flashbacks to Lukeās Jedi temple destruction.
We donāt see the end of the fight, but understand that it was inconclusive, and the reason why Luke retired to his island.Interesting but very ambitious, any idea on how to go about it?
Havenāt tried but I agree that the background might be a problem with those walkers.
But the way I see it Iād cut between Luke going about alone and sad on the island and the flashbacks. This way there would be less continuity problems. You only need some seconds of fight really, not the complete sequence.

For me it makes sense that we get OT characters at the start of the ST, but then move on to the new ones.
So Luke should only fight at the beginning and then become a secondary character, only training Rey.
He fails with Benās training but succeeds with Rey, thus completing his arc *.
Just an idea, very personal but itās something Iād like to see. š
My problem with the reunion scene is that we get the hierarchy like this: Lando > Solo > Leia > Luke
OK, itās like that from an operational POV (Achbar and Madine sort of explain it).
But it should be Leia & Luke > Solo > Lando.
Leia is the leader, but Luke is the only one capable of fighting Vader, so they are at the same level. Lando comes last just because he joined latter.
So having them enter the scene by this order makes more sense to me.
Another problem is that Han looks out of character by not having his shuttle crew ready. Luke can still come in and take the somebody elseās place.
And why does Han thank Luke for the rescue again ? Makes no sense since they had that conversation when leaving Tatooine. (if you count the deleted sandstorm scene, they have the same conversation 3 times š )
Just stuff for you to think about on your edit š
Just some ideas I had for a possible 3 in 1 mix of all the ST movies:
This is what comes to mind thinking about the strongest sequences in the ST.
I also like the new colors, they match the rest of the movies well. And they look correct regarding skin tones, clothes, etc. To me they are an improvement.
Simple, remove all of the āwoopsā and have him go with the other space fighters his decision (cut all dialog about the autopilot) š
On the podrace do the same, cut the silly exclamations and it works much better.
OK, hereās my ROUGH outline of the Rebel reunion, a blueprint of what can be done with the existing footage.
Main changes:
Yes, sound it not seamless, Luke is missing from some wider shots, etc.
But it might be useful for IlFanEditore š
About the crawl I donāt understand āWith the support of his alliesā. Luke is supported by his friends.
Thereās nobody else helping š
