Endor is a moon of Coruscant, perhaps a nature sanctuary since the planet is all city / industrial. The emperor does mention sanctuary moon.

On Coruscant you have a planet based weapon and the throne room.

The shield generator is on Endor, protecting Coruscant.

The space battle takes place over Coruscant.

This would fit the existing transitions, music and pace of the movie.

“you could just say that the windows are dark because its nighttime, maybe add a few building lights in the background here and there”

Footage will match better if we add starfields to the night sky on the establishing shots.
We associate those stars with space, so we need to establish that they are visible from the ground.
That’s much less work than adding sky + buildings to every window shot. Only a few will do.

Hearing one thing and reading another will not be limited to native Italians.

I speak Portuguese so I can naturally understand some Italian.
And as far as I know Spanish speakers will understand almost everything.
This without needing to study the language. It’s just similar for the reasons mentioned on the posts above (Latin).

So that’s a lot of people around the world that might notice it.
Anyway, I like the dub and it does sound more “classical” 😉

I have no problem with removing the Ewoks since the Endor sequence is the weakest part of the film.
The extended bunker and Jerjerrod scenes would make up for it in depth.

Considering new material that needs to be created, realistically I think we can show:

  • Luke going to Had Abaddon and surrender (Rogue, Ep II)
  • Had Abaddon (Rogue, Ep II, TFA )
  • Rebel base & holograms ( TFA )

A movie like this would be more “episodic”, with less exposition due to cut dialog.

I think Force Awakens and Rogue may have provided the needed elements for us.

The planet based “Deathstar” (Starkiller base) can be used to establish the space battle taking place over the capital planet.
No need to change the battle mechanics since they are similar, it’s easier to adapt existing VFX than to create new elements.

Rogue 1 can perhaps provide some imperial interior and shield generator shots if needed.

Great effects work, I like it!

The Revenge outline is good, but I think its too ambitious given the existing footage.

I like the idea of Han’s sacrifice, but you don’t have reaction shots or dialog from Leia, Chewie or Lando to support it.
But if they all die on the explosion then Luke’s reaction is enough.
So my suggestion for a darker ending is have the entire team killed on the explosion…

A simple lighter option is to have them plant the charges and just run before they go off.

I’ve looked again at snooker’s ideas for Jedi, and from the sequence above, I’m convinced it would work.

But skip the Ewoks completely if possible. The main problem with that is having Luke go to Vader. Perhaps he just takes off in the shuttle right after the rebels land?

Sharing some images of what I’ve been playing with:

The last one is a replacement for the cave matte painting, using backgrounds from Battlefront. The shuttle on the forest also came from there.
Just playing around a little, might be good inspiration for others.

Ewoks with blasters - a test of Return of the Jedi + Battle for Endor footage

SilverWook said:

You might be able to use a quick shot of the Scout Walker pilots …

Good suggestion!
I guess with some very good sound editing the pilots could hear the catapult firing and the grenade falling.
That way no need for matting or extra shots.

Perhaps if I use the classical bomb falling whistle and have the pilots react to that?

I tried the cannon video, but it was complicated. Too much new stuff to insert into the movie.
So I went for the catapult, that’s something they could hide easily.

It works reasonably well I think (only needs a few frames of extra effects for the walker destruction)…

So I think the battle works with just the blasters and the catapults.

how long would vader wait for luke?hours??

I’m taking the Emperor’s commands literally:

EMPEROR: Then you must go to the Sanctuary Moon and wait for them.
VADER: (skeptical) He will come to me?
EMPEROR: I have foreseen it. His compassion for you will be his undoing. He will come to you and then you will bring him before me.

Also Luke’s conversation with Leia:

LUKE: Vader is here…now, on this moon.
LEIA (alarmed): How do you know?
LUKE: I felt his presence. He’s come for me.

So Vader is on the Moon before C3PO tells the story and really waits for hours.
Remember that Vader is being played by the Emperor.

Ewoks with blasters - a test of Return of the Jedi + Battle for Endor footage
Time

Thanks for the comments!

The footage comes from a 4:3 version of Battle for Endor…
Is there a widescreen source? It would blend much better.

There are many ways to integrate this into Jedi like adding some armed guards and catapults on the background somewhere. That would show that the Ewoks can fight and our friends are in some danger after being captured.

As for the battle, I see the Ewoks creating the diversion as normal, then leading the Stormtroopers into an ambush.
Makes them seem clever, by hiding their weapons and true strength.

I’ll try to put together the cannon video.
As SilverWook mentioned, perhaps we need to see the crashed ship for it to work.

A quick test of Return of the Jedi + Battle for Endor footage (silent).

Ewoks now have some blasters and shoot at Storm Troopers.
The match is not perfect, but it’s better than them throwing sticks and stones 😃

There’s more footage where they use a cannon and a catapult with a grenade.
I’ll try to integrate that into a Walker destruction sequence.

Just seeing what could be done to fix that nonsense ground battle…

Good work. Yes it’s a bit strange if you understand Italian, even if only a bit.
But the voice acting here is so much better !

I wonder if there was some way to re-dub the movie in english, specially Anakin.
Perhaps some fan with acting skills and a similar voice could do it.

Anyway, for me AOTC only works if you focus it on Padmé.
Reduce the Coruscant scenes to a minimum and go with the trip to Naboo + Naboo scenes.
Anakin should not be the hero here.

What do you have in mind about this ?

For a Samsung 4K TV, the image will be reasonably calibrated out of the box for HD sources by selecting “movie” mode, with colorspace set to “auto”.
Of course, the source settings needs to be untouched (so no playing with the NVidia settings).

Never force any HDR settings, leave that for native HDR content.
Do update the firmware, colorspace and black levels are some of the things they tend to fix.

If you don’t like messing with calibration, just use it like this (movie mode out of the box) and it will be at least a reasonable approach.

This is slightly confusing:

  • Luke senses Vader on Endor and goes to him.
  • But we only see Vader landing after that!

It’s obvious the scenes where intended on a different sequence. Something like:

  • After 3CPO’s God scene, we cut to Vader landing (at dusk).
  • Normal Ewok village scenes. Luke notices Vader’s presence. If you look at Luke’s expressions during 3CPO’s story, it’s clear he is distracted. (night).
  • Luke talks with Leia and goes to Vader (early dawn).
  • Imperial walker closeup, then platform scenes with Luke and Vader as normal (light here also implies dawn).

I’ve edited it like this and it works. You need to show time passing, otherwise Luke leaves in a rush.
Here’s what I have (along with many many edits, like no Han when Luke leaves Leia and WIP color correction 😉 )

Good stuff! 😃

One of the problems with Jedi is timing during that night on Endor.
Clearly they had all the shots to do something more logical, but we ended up with some confusing sequences.
So anything that makes Luke going to Vader better will help.
Ideally we should see him walk towards the Imperial Walker…

Star Wars saga - Extra Extended Edition (1080p) (* unfinished project / WIP *)

I think the space battle and Tosche scenes would fit better at the end of Rogue One.
Leia is already on Rogue One, so why not Luke ? It would tie up both films perfectly.

Or how about going short-film style and making those scenes into a stand alone feature ? A sort of a fan-film set just before EpIV…

What’s this? A Prequel scene with an actual set?

Indeed, and the acting there feels much more natural than on the CGI sets.

On my personal edit of AOTC I decided to focus on Padme.
So I cut most of the Coruscant apartment scenes because of Anakin’s creepy dialog and went with the Naboo stuff.
The romance works much better that way, with Padme taking the lead, because she’s older and more mature.

going in the opposite direction with the colors and try to make them pop more.

Nice video! The concept art is using colors to create contrasts and framing.
The film uses almost uniform colors for each scene, with little contrast.
I think it’s way it was lit, perhaps because of green screen.

What you suggest would require manual correction /painting of individual areas on each take… That’s time consuming!
