I am losing sleep over this!
Time
For every 1 customer lost, they gain 5 more. Mainly because the majority of the blind public is clueless. It's one thing to not buy, but another to let people know why. How many people got duped into buying the 04 set? and the 05 set because they thought it was the originals? I know a few personally and have heard from a few people here. Once people see that the OOT is on DVD, they will say "great, lets buy it. Its on DVD so it must be great quality" WRONG! And the small percentage of people who complain, will get the same stupid lame answer we got, and say, 'well, ok.'

Seriously. I am tired of being dicked around by the powers that be. It is the fans that created Lucasfilm, at the very least they can give us a decent copy of the OOT. Even if it is 'bonus material'.

Maybe they are not understanding what we are complaining about. I (we) don't want a painstaking restoration. Just a decent anamorphic transfer. What is so hard about that?

It is not a question that they 'can't' do it, it is that they won't do it. Maybe come September, we just rent the discs and do your own anamorphic transfers and save some money.

They reply email everybody got (except me, ???) should be forwarded to the media. Both email and hard copy. Show the general public how Lucasfilm really feels about their 'customers'. The problem is, 90% of the general public doesn't give a crap. Lets face it, we are a small bunch in the grand scheme of things.

So what can we do? I thinks all restoration projects should continue and when completed, be sent to Lucas. Show him that we and his 'works in progress' are NEVER going to go away. I still think the 'mail back the SE discs' is a great idea. However, to do this, one must accually purchase the set.

I am close to giving up and leaving Star Wars behind. It is really leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

Sorry about the bitching. Just needed to vent a little.

The Official Lucasfilm Response
Time
I think what everybody is saying here in response to the response, should be emailed back to lucasfilm. We all know how we feel. Let them know how we feel. Start cutting and pasting the posts here and flood them with emails. Hell, even hard copies.

On another note, since "we have no plans – now or in the future – to restore the earlier versions" if I buy it in Sept, and they release it AGAIN next year, improved, can I sue? They are now on record as saying this is all we are going to get, ever.

Original Trilogy DVD FAQ (Unofficial)
Time
At this point I am going to light a candle for the O-OT, because perhaps until the day GL passes, and his kids/heirs decide to restore the original films and release them to put their families through college and the like, we will never see these movies as we should. I know they say "never believe them when they say never", but Lucasfilm's actions seem to suggest this is the case.

It's over. When Lucas dies, you know he is going to talk them with him.

Original Trilogy Novelizations

Did Greedo shoot first in the novel? This may clear things up, after all, George wrote it.
George didn't actually write it, Alan Dean Foster did. And it can't really be taken as gospel - it's very 'earthy': lots of talk of ducks and other non-star-warsy stuff.

I also seem to remember that according to the ROTJ novelization, Owen is Obi-Wan's brother, and the Ewoks are a bit less gay.

Who is Alan Dean Foster? All the copies I have seen say, "Star Wars From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker, A Novel by George Lucas"

Never mind. He was the ghost writter. Just found that.

$36 pre-order (AR) for all 3 titles...anyone found it cheaper??
Time
I think that both sides here have very good points. Personally, I am stuck with indicision at this point. If I decide to NOT buy them, it can't just end their. There must be loud vocal reasoning as to why. Not just a silent boycott. The media, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Fox, and everyone else has to know why sales were so low. Especially George. Those who decide not to buy, must keep up the fight.

I am not saying that the buyers are giving in or quiting. I'm saying that just not buying is not enough to make us heard. Lucas must not get away with this.
