Rogue One * Spoilers * Thread — Page 10

Looks more like a Y Wing cockpit section to me. (And X Wing engines.) And who’s to say the Rebellion doesn’t take bits of trashed ships and graft them together?

Looks a bit small to be a troop carrier though.

Also Huge tracts of land! I want to see Michael Palin as an Imperial officer saying that line. 😉

I’m not a fan just because of the era it appears in. This and the Tie Striker look like they belong in the early post-ROTJ period. Not Pre-SW.

Exactly.

Forgive me if somebody already stated this, but, I think the opening of Rogue One A Star Wars Story should open much like how Superman II opened, with flashbacks of what came before. They can show the beginning of the Empire from Revenge of the Sith until just before this story begins.

Have flashbacks of the Emperor and the Senate, Vader wiping out the remaining Jedi and alien worlds, more building of the space station known as the “Death Star.” with the John Williams Imperial March theme in the background.

That’s how I would do it. It’s different from the crawl.

They can also incorporate Mon Mothma scenes from ROTS into this as well.

I think you’re safe. Can’t imagine why anyone else would have suggested that.

Totally looks like a snowspeeder with the side flaps stretched out front to me.
Either way, looks dumb.

Not as dumb as prequel era ships that an Artoo unit can’t possibly fit inside the fuselage of. 😉

Really? The Naboo fighters were one of the very few designs I liked from the PT. R2 practicality or not, it’s a better looking ship and didn’t rely on recycled bits of ships we’ve already seen just to make it look ‘Star Wars’.

I meant the Jedi Starfighters. On the Episode III DVD features they fessed up that Artoo’s bottom half would stick out the bottom in real life if they didn’t cheat it. Why they simply didn’t design a larger ship to fit him I have no idea. IIRC, the AOTC fighter droids are permanently attached to their ships, (being little more than a head) yet Obi Wan seems to have the same R2 unit in ROTS.

The less said about how Artoo gets his head out of the Naboo fighter droid socket, the better. 😉

that R2 unit looks uncomfortable in that socket.

If it wasn’t for R2-D2 leaving the jedi starfighter when they boarded the cruiser in RotS, I’d rather believe they simply detached and reattached the head of their astromechs in flight. It’d make the design make some sense while still allowing Artoo to follow them around in space.

Well, that’s how the Lego sets were.

The film could start with someone telling the story of “ROUGE ONE” to a child…

Really? You didn’t like the Eta-2? I thought they were a good bridge between the Delta-7 and the TIE Fighter.

That being said, yeah, an astromech couldn’t fit in there.

I don’t get why they even took a Star Destroyer design and morphed it into a TIE fighter at all. Those are two completely separate ships that have nothing to do with each other; it’s like turning in aircraft carrier into a jet…which only works if you’re Marvel 😉

I’m fine with the new U-wing (kind of reminds me of Buck Rogers’ Thunderfighter)…

…but, given how close this is set to ANH, I wish they’d simply stick with existing ship designs.

You don’t have to be rude. It was just an idea I had.

Well, respectfully, I think your idea is rather silly. Rogue One is trying to be its own thing and distance itself stylistically (if not narratively) from the main saga. The worst thing they could do we be to feature footage from other SW films especially the prequels.

Very excited for the 3 minute trailer rumored to be shown on the 15th. Do you guys think Vader will be in it??

I think it will be merely a glimpse of him. A shadow on a wall, or a shot from behind looking out a Star Destroyer window ala Empire.

Lots of awesome imagery in this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUb_zpdyDpU

I was amazed to see just how many practical effects that was in it. When the info about the two aliens in the main cast leaked I was afraid that they’d CG the, but it seems like it’s only going to be Tudyk’s droid character that’ll be CG among the main cast.
I’m also glad to see that they borrowed the method used by Nolan in Interstellar to project images outside the spaceship windows rather than to just film everything with a green-screen background.

I’m also getting a Full Metal Jacket vibe from this video (which I really like);
