The Rise of Skywalker: Ascendant (Released) — Page 215

The leaked message being Palpatine’s orders to Pryde mixed with some dialogue from fortnight acts as a compelling alternative to “what’s the message?.. Somehow… pAlPAtiNe ReTUrnEd”. It also acts as a miss direction for the audiance, making them suspect Pryde as the Spy, when it’s actually Hux.

Hal, stay on the high ground! No silly broadcast from a random video game thingy. Lol.

“Because you are a PalpaWalker?”

Does anyone have an edit of Palpatine’s speech added in? I think I’d vastly prefer that against just them talking about it 😕

I dunno, I disagree. They talk about the Intel from Hux as confirming the broadcast, not the first they’re hearing of it. I also don’t feel it’s redundant because everyone already knows the information, if anything the second broadcast is the redundant one. But ¯_(ツ)_/¯ of y’all don’t wanna use it, don’t use it. The first act of The Rise of Skywalker was designed with that broadcast having already taken place. I was just trying to suggest a place where it would make sense, rather than having major plot points that motivate the opening actions of the characters take place off-screen.

But the first act wasn’t designed with that plot point in mind, all evidence points to it being a last minute decision. When Hux’s message says that Palpatine has returned, everyone looks shocked, Rose asks “Wait, do we believe this?” and Ackbar Jr. responds “It cannot be, the Emperor is dead!” Their reaction clearly contradicts the opening crawl by implying that it’s the first time they heard of this, so removing the mention of the message in the crawl, like Hal did, actually improves continuity.

Alternatively, I put it to replace Merry telling very similar lines much later in the movie, just after Palpie skyping with Pryde. I made a somewhat similar montage of various planets listening to it.
I also removed the attack and later references to Kijimi altogether, because each ship being a planet-killer is just dumb and has zero emotional effect on me. A fleet of, say, 10-20 000 regular ships is enough to tip the balance in any interstellar war.

Yeah. Idir, that’s a very nice clip. But I don’t think it works as-is for a theatrical exhibition. Undoubtedly the filmmakers could easily have made something very similar work well. The actual dialogue there is much improved from the raw audio clip.

This change is definitely something that would be nice to address but I haven’t really found or seen anything that pulls it off. 😦

My stance on revising fan edits.

Oh I agree. Personally I’m leaning more towards IIFaneditor’s concept, except I would change the dialogue so that it goes like this.

“what’s the message?”

-holographic/transmission sound-

“At last the work of generations is complete, the day of victory is at hand, the day of the sith.
Send the fleet to the galaxy…let it burn.
The Final order begins”
“Yes my lord”

All that transpired regarding the rise and fall of the repulic is addressed as the work of generations. Same reaction shots, more context to the story. Spy plot is teased. Best of ALL, no half arsed introduction from Poe.
A few birds with one stone, if you ask me.

I wish there was clean audio of the message without music or Fortnite SFX. I feel that’s half of what prevents it from being mixed into scenes where it could fit best.

Imagine if they had put it on the DVD/BD as a bonus feature…

And the other half is the dialogue. I’m sorry, i still just don’t get the appeal. For fans of it, I do apologize if it comes off as rude … I just don’t get it personally.

“Because you are a PalpaWalker?”

It helps solidify that this was a “plan”. It’s so hard, for me at least, to just get the “suddenly Palpatine” aspect. That’s part of why I put Kylo’s trip to Exegol in Force Awakens and the message in Last Jedi. I wanted it to be a trilogy, not just a random new thing.

Sounds great on paper! Any option that drops “Somehow Palpatine returned” is a welcome change.

Unfortunately not. Il have to redo everything once I get an upgrade.

Hello all, been away from my computer for the weekend so haven’t got to work on saber stuff, but I have been popping in and out to keep up.

As for the broadcast I found this video: https://youtu.be/Fmu08wCZJr0

It’s the closest I’ve found with no music. I’m neither here nor there about the idea but if it leads to a better scene in the movie and is done well then I’m on board.

EDIT: I believe it’s a Palpatine impersonation, so not the actual Fortnite message… not 100% accurate but maybe with some more garbled audio work could add realism to it

Could just play the audio at the start of the movie right before/as it fades into “A long time ago, in a Galaxy far far away.” Have it cut out as those words fade out, then Boom. Star Wars crawl begins.

I’ve been thinking about the way the music comes in at the very end of the movie, leading into the credits. I can’t fade it in very elegantly because it comes right on the heel of a loud final note of the Resistance theme.

Anyone have or can contrive a light note that can be brought in first and give way to the existing music? The Force theme sometimes has one more note than what is currently there to lead into it.

Just on this, I agree about sounding a bit unnatural fading in, but it could be possible to play around with looping that initial horn a bay and have a bit longer fade in. I’ll have a go at it some time this week!
