This is the best Sci-Fi film!

And worth consideration:

“Heroes come in all sizes, and you don’t have to be a giant hero. You can be a very small hero. It’s just as important to understand that accepting self-responsibility for the things you do, having good manners, caring about other people - these are heroic acts. Everybody has the choice of being a hero or not being a hero every day of their lives.” - George Lucas

I love Solaris, but I haven’t gotten around to seeing Stalker yet. Need to get on that.

SONIC RACES THROUGH THE GREEN FIELDS.
THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH WHITE CLOUDS.
THE WAYS OF HIS HEART ARE MUCH LIKE THE SUN. SONIC RUNS AND RESTS; THE SUN RISES AND SETS.
DON’T GIVE UP ON THE SUN. DON’T MAKE THE SUN LAUGH AT YOU.

I highly recommend Stalker. It’s truly an incredible film. I watched it early last year and to this day I think about it often. It’s truly left a permanent mark on me. I’d also recommend watching Zerkalo and Andrei Rublev if you haven’t seen them!

Agreed, and I feel the same way about Rocky.

Haven’t watched any of those movies, but I thought that was the consensus opinion.

The final season of Game of Thrones generated a lot of backlash, but personally I had no issues with it. I remember reading that the last three seasons were going to be a general idea of how the story would unfold in the books rather than a direct adaptation.

To me, it is fanfiction. The first four seasons I’d rate an overall 8/10, but 7 and 8 would get a 6/10. So I, too, don’t hate it like many others. A bit disappointed, I guess, but I don’t feel the hatred many others felt, and this is coming from somebody who is a huge fan of the book series.

Honestly, what did everybody expect from these later seasons anyways? Most of the best parts from the show were lifted directly from the books. Did people really expect that once Dave and Dan ran out of source material that they’d come up with stuff as good as what George wrote? Get real.

Still, the last few seasons were MOSTLY pretty solid, but I’m still eagerly awaiting on George to deliver the REAL story.

Yeah. In fact I’m one of those fans of the series that have chosen to wait until the last two ASoIaF books are published to start reading the book series.

Did a quick page flip to skim for The Dark Knight in case it was already mentioned because it felt like a cliche to say it by now but TDK is massively overrated.*

EDIT: *adding the obvious to say Heath Ledger did a great job and that overrated doesn’t mean total ass

I find myself enjoying The Dark Knight Rises a lot more than TDK. In fact TDKR is my favourite of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

It’s ridiculous how movies like Tenet, Bill & Ted Face the Music, and Candyman are still coming out this year despite the covid while Halloween Kills got postponed to next year. If those movies aren’t getting postponed like that to next year then the studios must not have expected them to do that well to begin with.

Tenet was made for $200M and they think it’ll make it’s money back!? If they expect it to do that well during all this then the studio execs of Blumhouse could’ve released Halloween Kills this year.

Finally someone had the guts to say it!

I’ll go further: Spielberg isn’t a very good storyteller in the first place. He’s a great director of course, especially when coupled with a good script, but whenever he actually writes a story it typically turns out to be “emotionally manipulative junk food” as you described it.

He has the same problems as Lucas, just in the opposite direction. Whereas Lucas doesn’t add enough emotion to his stories, Spielberg adds too much emotion.

Phantom Menace is the best of the prequel trilogy. ROTS is killed by the poor handling of Anakin’s fall, and AOTC is completely unwatchable.

This but unironically. I’d go as far to say that the theatrical version of The Phantom Menace is actually kind of good. I’d give it a 5.5/10. For me Jedi is a solid 6/10.

The biggest problem with the film is the characters are 2 dimensional cardboard cut-outs of people. And of course the slapstick Jar Jar stuff doesn’t hold up. Visually the film holds up the best out of the entire trilogy except for the underwater city interior and the Gungan-Battle Droid fight at the end. They used a lot more miniatures, sets, costumes, models and stunt work. The pacing (of the theatrical version) is actually really good and I see why so many people liked it upon a first viewing. The action set pieces are fun, exciting and they don’t linger any longer than they have to. It moves to the next set piece relatively quickly. So on a first viewing your mind doesn’t really linger on the plot or the characters. It drags on a little bit when they get to Coruscant, but it still isn’t as bad as Endor in Jedi.

Literally the only good thing that was filmed in Attack of the Clones is the less than 5 minute sequence when Anakin goes on the hunt for his mother, finds her and kills the Sandpeople. I’ve never seen an edit of Clones I like because that is the film’s only redeeming quality. Rich Evans is right. Relative to it’s budget, it’s the worst film ever made.

Hal has a good edit of Sith, it would be a good replacement version if not for the ending and renaming the film. There’s a lot of good edits of Sith though.

Luke astro-projects himself to Salt Lake Planet, gets shot at by gorilla walkers, has a non-lightsaber duel with Darth Millennial, then dies of a broken heart, inspiring broom boys throughout the galaxy to get creative with their sweeping. - DuracellEnergizer

Come on, you know that’s not true. I’ve seen big budget Hollywood movies that are way worse than Attack of the Clones. It’s still the worst of the prequels, but it’s not the worst big-budget movie ever.

OK, here’s an unpopular opinion regarding Star Wars.

I’ve no issues with Jar Jar Binks and don’t know why people are so incensed by said character.

What… What is wrong with you?
Are you okay?

Seriously, how don’t you see it? He’s insanely annoying, his “clumsy” antics just make him seem like an idiot, and he speaks in an accent that makes me want to jam pencils up my ears. If I could remove him from the trilogy completely, I would.

Lucas’s attempts at emotion are often childish; Spielberg’s are childlike.

Both of the directors require John Williams to elevate their material, but this doesn’t make E.T. any less excellent.

I really don’t have a problem with E.T. or Jar-Jar being childlike because both are for children, it’s much better to me than infantile ‘edgy’ characters that pander to 12 year olds as mature or dark like Vincent Valentine from Final Fantasy, or Carnage from Spider-Man.
