Should I watch the prequels on DVD or Disney+?

The DVDs are closer to the original versions of the movies but the Disney+ version is much higher quality. What to watch?

I would go with Disney+. The only major difference you’ll notice in TPM is the digital yoda, and the other two films are nearly identical to the DVD releases.

I’m probably in a minority of one in preferring Creepy Puppet Yoda to the digital version.

AOTC also has some weird monkeying around with the order of some shots in a couple of scenes - oddly enough, both have to do with flying vehicles.

“That Darth Vader, man. Sure does love eating Jedi.”

You probably just shouldn’t watch em at all.
Easy fix.

Or maybe you could actually be helpful instead of using this thread as an excuse to hate on the prequels.
Even easier fix.

Back on topic though, I think Disney+ is the best way to watch the prequels. The colors are much better than on the DVDs, and it’s in much higher quality than DVD could possibly manage.

My preferred Skywalker Saga experience:
I II III IV V VI VII VIII IX

Was Ray not just joking around? A bit of dry humour.

Disney+ versions for me, OP. Though as stated above have a look schorman’s project and a few of the other Prequel projects on here too 😃

The FE Renegades thread; from the people who post ‘go kill yourself’, ‘fuck you’, ‘let’s throw abuse’, and more at OT staff & members. Four years on and still throwing accusations, slurs and abuse at the OT & anyone outside their Salacious Crumb filled clique. + FE Discord “to vent” more at the OT. Wook’s take.

There is a pretty fine range of Prequel fanedits on here you may want to watch instead? 😉

Though if keeping it ‘official’, go for the DVDs…

(I have no idea why, maybe it is because I can’t remember the last time I actually played a DVD disc on a standalone DVD player? 😃)

50 Cent is just an imposter

I would actually recommend the DVD version here. The prequels were extremely heavy on special effects, and they pioneered a lot of techniques that were ahead of their time. For instance, Marvel’s entire production is basically what they did for the prequels. However, being products of 1999-2005, the special effects do not hold up and they’re actively distracting. I think a lower resolution video stream can help paper over this.

The changes to the prequels are very minor, nothing comparable to the special edition debacle with the original trilogy. That being said, D+ will give you the highest quality. I’m partial to the 4K Blu Rays, personally, as I like physical media.

Disney+ is better quality than the 4K discs? Is that for all the films, or just the Prequels?

OP was asking about Disney+ compared to the original DVDs. But to your question, 4K Blu Ray will always provide the best quality without compression.

Changes are pretty minor if I’m correct, and the leap from DVD to 4K is so substantial that even with the differences I’d say D+ is probably the way to go.
