Man of Steel - Your thoughts

I've been hearing most of the same complaints about Hollywood for decades now. (Ever since that shark movie came out in '75.) The major difference is the industry used to be accused of pandering to the youth market.

And yet, the mature themed, more serious Oscar contending films still seem to come out every fall.

If people didn't care about Superheroes, who are all those people dyeing their underwear and running around conventions? ;)

The first blockbusters of the 70s-80s were good, though. They respected film grammar, they weren't bloated special effects experiences, they weren't rehashes of pop culture institutions the audience were familiar with, and they treated audiences like adults instead of consumers.

For the Oscar bait movies, they just nominate the same 10 pretentious dramas released in the last six weeks of the year every single year. For every Godfather that wins best picture there are at least 15-20 Crash(s) that end up winning. They are just as terrible as the loud summer blockbusters of he last few years, we just don't notice because we are so burned out by November.

i have nothing against superheroes, but the superhero movie trend has long overstayed their welcome. The modern trend began with x-men all the way back in 2000 (yeah I know about batman 89, but that wave died with Steel back in 97). Its become too competitive nowadays for a film like Easy Rider or Midnight Cowboy to revitalize the industry because no one in Hollywood can't take risks anymore. Hence they just stick to the same genre again and again, and then try to squeeze money out of the audience with more sadistic measures. They can't recover because of he Internet and overseas box office profits.

I have stopped going to the cinema now... The last film I saw was the Hobbit... That confirmed what you just said in a way...

So I just get DVD's now and hunt about for older films with more going for them...Although there are some good new films I just wait for them to come out on DVD or Blu-Ray.

Cinema is expensive and on top of that you end up sitting next to somone rustling away in a crisp packet or bag of sweets

Rustlers in the cinema are a deal breaker they make the ticket price worthless and ruin the experience.

Rustling should be banned... And packaging should be altered for cinemas so it does not make noise.. People should also be strip searched and have items that can make rustling noises confiscated and then returned after the movie.

Why do these people feel the need to constantly eat while watching a movie?

Then you get the talkers... People who lose interest not surprisingly at most films today but decide rather than get up and leave they will just sit there talking with there mates and ruin it for others who are interested.

Then if it is a busy performance and you need to adhere to seating numbers your bound to have to sit behind a 7ft hulk of a man or some woman with a massive hair do....

When I went to see the Hobbit a Down syndrome Kid kept standing up and shouting in the middle of the film across the seats at the minder that took him who could not be bothered to sit with him. Far from being the kids fault but this minder was being paid and just left him in different seats to have a break from it... Man if you are going to do that atleast be there for them instead of skulking away across to the other side of the cinema and when he shouts out this guy just turned around and waved his hand at him.... Pretty Bad if you ask me how uncaring can you get.

It's just not worth it.

STAR WARS: EP V &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - <strong>12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW</strong>

Hi there Fast Break... Han may have had one of those Jedi training remotes for other reasons i.e distraction device to get past guards for instance. or to get rid of mynocks lol

I'd say that in conclusion the technique of making one of those floating Jedi training remotes could be of use to Ady when he get's to ANH:HD to fix the bad compositing.

But making use of the footage where luke is swinging a light saber in thin air would be enough to suggest Yoda was teaching him how to use it more effectively without aid of technology but without making it feel like Rocky IV either...But it is probably not for this edit... Star Wars Kid also springs to mind...But I wonder how it would look rendered with a light saber glow and sound effects It might actually be quite good finished....

If anyone from the community wants to attempt a render of it I would be interested in seeing the result...

Timmdiggerm is right technology is way out the mix on dagobah no remotes should be present here and it got cut for good reason.

@timdiggerm very interesting point are you writing off the PT? If so I don't Blame you!

@ryan that was what I was kind of thinking

Does anyone know where it is meant to sit in the film or is it just one of those rejected ideas so they changed the training scene to eliminate it?

That is what makes me curious about it I can not solidly say where it goes for sure.....

for the placement where I think it would sit well... Requires the other deleted scene of the bombing and Han falling off the pipe so you can bring Lukes chat with Yoda in his hut forward.

I just want to know where it goes in the scenes... Or if at all?

It is complete conjecture really.... not a suggestion.

Ok Got an answer for anyone remotely interested (get it?)

From the original script it was axed written by Lawrence Kasdan but seeing as it was filmed it must have been a late decision.

Dream Vader & Darkside cave Replaced this scene obviously as it is not in the script

So I prefer the way it is in the movie this positioning for the proposed scene with the remotes is bad but food for thought on a re-arrangement to show Luke being a bad ass with a light saber and to have it in context.... But I have my answer and thought I would share it.

This is not so much a suggestion but more of placement analysis for a deleted scene from Yoda's Test.

The Metal Bar is awful so forget about that please...I don't think it is any good or any real use TBH (unless it could be swapped for a remote?)

I wanted to draw attention to this planned scene

*edit* I know this is not the original comc but the scene is present apparently in the Marvel comic before the film was released...

I know that the deleted scene itself has some issues Yoda being quite wobbly on lukes back and Luke swinging quite wildly for the remotes that are not there. What I most like about it though is that it binds ESB to ANH with Ben and now yoda training in a similar fashion with Ben's Mentoring teachings to Luke were over after they had only just begun.

But forgetting all of that because it is probably an impossible scene recreation... But most importantly where does it go or was it planned to go which is my main point?

I personally think that it goes between the Executor leaving the asteroid field (inter-cut after or before the shot of Executor) and Vader contacting the emperor... It certainly does not go into the training sequence we see later and also It would then be in context as Vader and the emperor are talking about Luke.... Some deleted scenes are quite obvious this one Is not so straight forward...But that may be because it was unfinished? If you think or know that it goes somewhere else I would be interested... But whilst futile in terms of the scene itself where does it go? Or was it meant to go?

Does anyone have the Marvel comic? for the scene order it was portrayed in?

And does the comic follow the movie in terms of scene order?

And Ronster, love seeing your ideas. Even though they probably aren't what i would want to do for this edit, they could be of use to other editors. So don't feel that just because i may say no to an idea that you should stop.

Bless you Ady Not Like that... I have been over the film and taken into account your 1st post

not treated this list as the holy bible of errors on the film

http://www.moviemistakes.com/film409

Empire Strikes Back was a Radical Departure from Star Wars A New Hope there is not many things I personally would Change with the film and I have shared them all and raised the issue when my gut feeling tells me something is not right with a scene and told you what I thought was wrong or of a possible fix or at least pointed the finger towards issues.

It's more like this now...

whoops one last one...

The lights are off in the tunnel this trooper emerges from...between the 2 pillars only noticed this the other day.

No No No it's not me....

I certainly not very interested in community projects, or creative projects, or remakes of things done by the fans, or scrutinizing details to try and come up stuff, let alone devote my own time and effort.

:)

@Oh_riginal Putting a star destroyer above cloud city does nothing....And changes nothing.... But I do believe you nailed it when you said you don't need to see anything like ties or star destroyers... I am all for hearing the empires presence increase without seeing it but not bothered if it stays as is in the original... It's a small fix for Lando's lame excuse not to go back that is all too convenient which ever way you look at it and it feels like nothing at all has changed between leaving and having to go back.

Cranking up the tension....With small smattering of touches and creating more of a crescendo to Lukes rescue from the Love of his pals that was what I was aiming for. And that Leia and Chewie were actually putting their lives on the line and Lando's to save Lukes Life.

I have a question for any of the team who can answer I would be interested...

What is the main motivation for replacing the canyon shot... Is it just the background Matte?

And one last thing on this will we see any destroyed tie fighter debris in this new version?

that is a fair point... I would actually say you would not need to see any either... hint hint.

Hear them perhaps but not see them.

I get you though but to install a sense of that luke is in some really big do do and not just hanging there and slipping away for no reason other than hopelessness well I already said it all.

There is nothing wrong with the original but to increase tension ten fold that is what I would do if I could. I read talk of having ties flying about when they are running away in the early days of the thread and I think that is too early we need the falcon to escape first... But i don't think it is bad idea just perhaps it may have been ditched entirely?

THe thing I like most about this is that it does not go too far over the top.. Like a lot of films do today but It also feels like because of Lando's line "What about those fighters" the whole scene was also undersold perhaps due to budget restrictions.

Absolutely was. Mostly thought about how we probably wouldn't've had to deal with the Azog crap if it was two films.

I Really did not like the CGI for Azog or the Barry Humpries Goblin King... It ruined it everything else I thought was good though.

If only they could have stuck to the same formula as they had originally of prosthetics I think it would have made the film better
