Do you really want a film look like a 4k scan from the original negative, when nothing close to that was ever seen in theaters?

There is an assumption here that the print is the intended product, which isn't totally accurate. Just because people don't see the O-Neg in a theater doesn't mean that the print is the ultimate viewing experience.

The O-Neg is the intended finished product, not an unfinished product waiting to be somehow "corrected" by generational loss.

To make an audio analogy, HD audio releases come from the master tapes because that is as close to the original event as possible. They don't come from a recording of the released vinyl or cassette whether those were the intended release formats or not.

So to answer your question: Yes - I, personally, want to see the O-neg scanned in 4K because I want a document that is as close to the original event as I can get and that has suffered as little generational loss as possible.

Actually, the assumption is correct.

This is why Leia looks like she had the make-up gun set to whore in the bluray releases and why we have lobster-men and other weird colour anomolies.

<snip>

good pointa poita. i may add that the same things happens today on the hobbit trilogy and other movies. see this video

at the end it's still a different thing what you see on set and what you see in the finished product.

Conan The Barbarian 1982 US Theatrical Edition & BONUS! *RELEASED*

doombot, you'll always have the problem with various services

put it on usenet: long availability (currently up to 5 years), not everyone has it and/or doesn't wanna learn how to use
put in on online service like uploaded: very good download speed for premium users, not everyone wants to drop down the cash for premium download
put in on torrent sites: starts with good transfer speeds, but dies quickly.

personally i say usenet is the best option. the uploader can move on rather quickly, since he only needs to keep the files for 1 or 2 days to make sure everything is fully uploaded and wait for feedback.

Disney's 'Beauty and the Beast' - special project (* unfinished project *)

screenshots from the 720p hd cap

looks like this was the source for the blu-ray. the blu-ray shows more picture information. but i don't know if disney made any changes from that version to the bd.

do we have the ld pcm available? i'd love to sync it to the bd video and get rid of that stupid 7.1 mix or at least make it a secondary track ;)

Help Wanted: Friday the 13th Part 1 - 9 Original Theatrical Mixes PCM Preservation
Time

facts for jason goes to hell blu-ray release

bd contains the r-rated version
uv code, included with the bd of the movie, is the unrated version

this was also confirmed on movie-censorship.com

does this mean part 9 pcm audio should be dropped? no! i have the itunes hd version and an old 1080i cap from monsters hd which looks pretty good. both are the unrated version. i also have the dvd.

i don't know how the uv version looks like or if there is any drm on it, since i never had a uv movie. one could also create a custom unrated version, using the available source for the best picture quality possible. it's clear now that warner wont release the unrated cut on bd. it just make me wonder why the uv version is the unrated cut.

btw, for those of you who wonder what uv stands for: uv = ultraviolet

afaik only part 1 was censored in the u.s. the short section can be fixed with the dvd/bd mono audio. though, i don't know if the laserdisc is censored or not. all other movies are uncut.

2 and 7 are cut

do you refer to the mpaa cuts to ensure the r-rating? if yes, then all movies are cut ;-) the nc-17 version, except for part 1, have never been released and it's doubtful they will ever see the day of light, as the scenes cut seams to be lost :(

Help Wanted: Friday the 13th Part 1 - 9 Original Theatrical Mixes PCM Preservation

welp folks, it’s now official. warner/paramount decided to drop the original mixes (mono and dolby stereo) from the blu-ray releases of part 4 - 9. part 1 - 3 still had the original mono mixes in lossy dolby 2.0 on the u.s. blu-rays.
while i had synced the dvd audio to web-dl of part 4 - 8 for another forum, i’d like preserve the pcm audio from laserdisc. though, i only have part 9 on ld. therefore i was hoping others can jump in and provide the untouched ld audio for part 1 - 8 (pcm @44.1khz 16bit) so they can be synced to blu-rays.

please help me make this preservation possible πŸ˜ƒ

cheers and thanks,

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991) - Theatrical Cut Restoration Project (* unfinished *)

always remember: blu-ray is capable to hold a higher color spectrum then dvd or ld was able to do. so using a ld or even a dvd for reference might result in a wrong color display altogether.

i also not recommend to do color correction purely by eye, unless you

- have approved monitors for color correction, which are also properly calibrated

- have high knowledge of color correction using scopes

- know what the original intended look of the movie was

point 3 will be very had to fill, since none of has ever spoken to the directors to the extend a colorist would've or has access to the notes done during the color correction process.

the final results may look good, but also may not represent what was originally intended. a good example were i have mixed feelings about the result is andrea's the thing color correction. while it looks pretty good, i don't think it's the right look. john carpenter usually goes to a more natural look of colors. especially the skin tones in andrea's the thing look way to desaturated. which i think is a result of using a laserdisc color. we wont know for sure, unless mr. carpenter would watch that version and tells us if it's right or totally wrong.
