Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

I figured they would be relatively minor things, but I was curious just the same. XD

Why do the credits need to be reconstructed?

Special Edition credits are not the original theatrical credits as they have somewhat different font, spacing, coloring, timing, and, of course, extra credits squeezed in for all the Special Edition work.  To have an all-around proper original theatrical recreation/restoration, the credits would either have to be reconstructed from scratch or scanned and cleaned from the original film reels (well, to have it in HD, anyway).  And really anything about this project that you might wonder "why would he have to do this or that" is likely answerable with "so it can be a proper theatrical recreation/restoration".  Anything less is not well received around these parts...

I showed ESB to my daughters for the first time yesterday. They'd seen Star Wars but I'm spacing the rest out so the big one can see The Force Awakens in the theaters. Here's the moment when Yoda appears:

Those are the best moments ! Enjoy them.

Sigh.  Should have probably thought of that before posting.  You're right.  Downloaded DivX and that plays it just fine.

Thanks

*facepalm* Divx???  What decade is this?

Do what chyron8472 said and go grab Combined Community Codec Pack (actually, it is more of a filter pack than a codec pack, but they couldn't pass up the acronym).  On top of everything it'll have Media Player Classic HomeCinema included, which is lightweight, simple and gives you options to do just about anything.  Those rare times I use Windows anymore, that's my go-to player.  (VLC is good, too, but for different reasons.)

One question at Hairy_hen about the ESB audio, when they're going to the carbon freezing chamber, I've found C-3P0's instructions to Chewbacca, about how he has a responsibility to him, to be a bit drowned out.  Granted, most times I've gone through that sequence I haven't had my speakers up to what I'd consider a proper level for really watching the film, but each time that scene has gone by while playing the movie as background noise, it has stuck out to me.  Is that line supposed to be a little overpowered and I'm just not making out all the words easily because I don't have the volume up enough, or is something else going on?  (I keep forgetting to go back to that scene to check, sorry.)

So how bad is the generation loss, DVNR, crushed blacks etc in the despecialized? Considering that the 2004/2011 release and the 1993 (GOUT) release are important sources...

Well, the crushed blacks are a bit better, but no one has said this project was working from perfect sources, just the best available.  Really, what this comparison shows is how much more potential is out there if Disney/LFL would do a proper restoration of the OUT, rather than continuing with a master which we can now show specific examples of advanced generational losses from all the tinkering.

Well, you'd need to do more than just sync it up, I'd think.  The best courses I can think of would either be to sync up the track, while removing extra bits to make it fit, and replacing SE movie audio with an OOT source, or take one of the OOT mixes and plop in descriptive audio snippets where they belong.  Otherwise, what's the point of including it if it is full of SE changes like Jango's voice, new Emperor, alternate takes (e.g. not "You're lucky you don't taste very good"), Vader's nnnnnNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOooooooooo, freaking Jedi Rocks...  (may have thrown some '04/'11 changes into my examples, but whatever)  Anyway, just keep in mind how much work you're facing with the options available, and save yourself some pain by picking your ultimate solution from the get go.

Say what you will, but I've always felt the additions have been nothing but needlessly distracting from what's actually going on.  It opens stuff up, sure, but the shortsightedness of Lucas was in thinking that superfluous stuff happening in the environment was as important as the plight of the main characters.  Hell, that shit outside is sharper and more drawing of the eye than what is happening up close; THAT is just a major movie-making mistake.

@mfm Do you mean marks like what appears below the "D" in "DVD" on the GOUT?  If so, that's print damage that just needs to go...  (and Harmy replaced it with actual film scans, so you can't ask for much more definitive than that)

Since it is usually wise to do the opposite of what Nearsighted Scrappile says, I think Harmy should go into hiding.

Did I say something to piss you off? I can't tell when people joke online, so I thought I'd ask.

Anyway,

About the sound "discrepancy", Is there a tutorial on how to make the changes permanently to Star Wars v.2.5 and The Empire Strikes Back v.2.0? My forté is audio mastering and preservation, so when it comes to HD video, I am still learning.

Well, I was mostly joking, but the statement was rooted in your history of saying things I consider opposite of general sense, not to mention that time you jumped the gun and made a SW 2.5 torrent before it was ready.  So, yes and no, but over all, life's too short to take things too personally.
