(Next) Next Gen Consoles:
I'm sure they've all been working on them for some time now, but it seems that we're on the cusp (maybe E3 in June?) on getting some announcements on what the next generation of video game hardware will be.
I normally echo the sentiment of: I'm pretty happy with what we've got now.
But I recently heard a podcast of people discussing this question and I thought they had some decent answers:
1. All games in 1080p @ >60FPS
2. No load screens. EVAR.
3. Open every door. (Meaning that if you see a door, you can open it and go inside. Even if there's no reason to. Games would probably have to employ some sort of auto-generate schema to do that.)
I think that's mostly what they brought up. To that, I would add:
4. No texture/geometry pop-in.
5. No disappearing bodies
6. Enough horsepower to run something like LucasArt's DMM in games without compromise (splintered wood disappears almost as soon as it appears)
7. Consistent, built-in 3D Display Support
8. Consistent, built-in Headtracking Support
9. D-Box support (for me and the other 5 guys who care)
10. Kinect 2- Higher resolution camera and IR array. Maybe "professional" version that allows for custom setups (like multi-sensor placement for better precision/coverage)
All of this stuff I can live without... But as long as newer hardware is coming, it might as well do something useful.
What say you?
