I remain mostly optimistic.

  • Worst case scenario, anything Disney makes is poor to mediocre. So are most movies. I'd rather watch a mediocre Star Wars movie than "Battleship."

I'm not disagreeing with you... but have you seen Battleship?

Oh, and welcome back!  TheSluggo has missed you.

all these year Lucas has said there was no 789.  It just came out of his own month that he did.  What a lie!

He did say there were going to be nine movies in the original making of ESB book.

Now now. People round here say a lot of nasty things about George Lucas, but I will not hear it said that he is inconsistent.

Yep... Just like when he said "Read My Lips- No New Star Wars" in March.  And look, there hasn't been any new Star Wars for at least 6 months.

My biggest issue is the controls required nowadays.  Last year I played a little Halo and Left 4 Dead (my first exposure to either of these) with xhonzi, and the thing I kept coming back to was how complicated the controls were.  I was constantly getting killed because I couldn't remember which button did what.  Maybe it was just because I needed more exposure to it, but it seems like console game controllers have gotten more and more complicated.

Funny thing is, I used to play PC games a lot, and obviously they got very complicated....but the keyboard seems like a much more reasonable controller to do more than just run, jump, and shoot.

It could just be that I remember it differently... but I think you weren't nearly as bad as I thought you'd be or as you make it out here.  In fact, I thought you were making good strides in the few hours.

I've played with worse.

Prometheus. still not a fan, just checking out the audio commentaries and whatnot. The movie is like a train wreck but I'm having fun trying to pinpoint just where it went off the rails.

I bought the set purely for the bts / doco footage and in that regard I feel it delivers.

I've toyed with the idea of buying it for this purpose... but I'm not sure if it's the best use of my time/money.  I wish I could rent the full set somewhere and give it a couple hours and call it done.

BioShock!!! (1, 2 and Infinite and SPOILERS)
Time

New BioShock Infinite trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLHW78X1XeE

They had a countdown for this for a month or so.  I think it looks good, but hardly worthy of its own coutndown or other fanfare.

I'm really looking forward to the game in February... but I'll try to keep my expectations on the ground.  Wait... there's a cloud joke in there somewhere.

Nice Lighthouse though... I wonder if there's going to be a Rapture connection there, or if it's just a motif that they like.

Against all of my better judgement, I picked up Battleship as my free RedBox rental last week (and then kept it two nights... d'oh!).  I have to say, in a year full of disappointment (I'm looking at you Poormetheus (I just came up with that!) and Drek Night Rises (they can't all be winners)) that my low expectations were shattered and I quite liked this movie.

Yes, I'm talking about Battleship, the one based on the boardgame.

Is it smart?  No.  Is it goofy?  Yes.  Does it have plot holes galore?  Probably.  Do you want to spend any time thinking about those in a movie full of fun?  I don't know, but none of that stuff bothered me the least.  Again, this could go back to having such low expectations that they couldn't not be met (so don't let me raise them) but the whole last hour of the movie had me grinning from ear-to-ear at the awesomeness of it.

So, for your low expectationed consideration, I present:

BATTLESHIP!

(or in the words of Mz. Black: Fun, fun, fun.)

I suppose you can (and will) take this many ways, but I'm thinking like a red blooded American Consumer this morning.

Here are some things I'm waiting to buy/rent/whathaveyou:

Black Mesa - Remake of HL1 in HL2+ engine
Han Solo Adventures - Old School LucasArts Adventure game starring everyone's favourite lovable rogue!

At least two of these are now possible. There's a demo for Han Solo Adventures available, and Black Mesa just got released... sort of... but you know that.

Man, that demo is hard to find on there.  Could he have bothered to put it on the front page?!?

Anyways, it was worth the effort.  A few mechanical issues aside, it was pretty well done.  I really loved getting onto the sand crawler.  Such an un-Han thing to do, but I loved it all the same.

Thanks for the tip, kev.

1600 pts for $15. It's getting harder to find these below $20, so $15 is pretty decent.

I bought 2.

In other news, Castlevania Lords of Shadow was my most recent obsession.  Pretty darn fantastic.

Also- Dead Island is pretty good.  Playing it co-op online with my friend since we finished Borderlands.

L.A. Noire is what I'm up to now... engaging but not overwhelmingly so.  The "human lie detector" bit is an interesting new kind of gameplay... but I happen to be terrible at it.

This is not a page 3 thread.
