now that's just not nice.   do you believe this about all non-conservatives?   : (

Those aren't my words... those are the words of Mary Beth Sweetland.  If YOU needed insulin, you can't take it.  But, because she is a PETA VP, her life is important enough to take it.  Do you understand the difference?

hmmm,  well I can certainly understand taking the insulin.   If its that or die, what choice does she have?

So... you don't sense any hypocrisy?  She leads an organization threatening people's lives that develop these drugs- they tell all of their members (and their non-members, come to think of it) not to use these drugs (including insulin) and yet she, as a Vice President, thinks she is excluded from this rule because her life is more important than yours AND THAN THE ANIMALS SHE'S KILLING SO SHE CAN LIVE!  And why is her life more important... because she is living to protect the animals.  Your life, Warbler by the way- not important.

Nice ideas, TheoOdo...  1 quick question while I digest the other things you wrote: Why Tatooine?  I always thought it was a big mistake to put any of the Prequels there... it's already a little hard to swallow that they would "hide" Luke under his father's actual surname... if they also hid him from his father on his father's home planet...

And one more: In your opinion... couldn't Yoda train Obi-Wan and not train Anakin without actually being in the movies?  I always presumed we wouldn't actually see Yoda train Obi-Wan in the movies- this would have happened prior to the movies starting...  This way, you can preserve the ESB Yoda is a "green alien midget" surprise.

Mary Beth Sweetland, (Vice President, not President as I remembered) said, in regards to her taking insulin:

She was quoted in Glamour magazine saying I'm an insulin-dependent diabetic. Twice a day I take synthetically manufactured insulin that still contains some animal products -- and I have no qualms about it ... I'm not going to take the chance of killing myself by not taking insulin. I don't see myself as a hypocrite. I need my life to fight for the rights of animals."

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

Sure it all adds up to what I'm saying. Theatrical cuts should have mandatory release on every format prior to any special editions.  Lord of The Rings and Star Trek did it right on Blu Ray. Theatrical cuts first.. Next release special editions etc etc etc...

It's odd to see you say that LotR did it right by releasing Theatrical Releases first/only.  All other websites are criticizing that as a money grabbing move.

Why can't we all just get along with seamless branching?  That's how all of my Cameron Theatrical/Special editions are.

How does releasing an extra version of Avatar help the Earth at all?  Won't most of the discs released today be declared obsolete this fall when the full-featured edition comes out?  And then won't that release be in landfills when the 3D version comes out next year?

How can this help the Earth?  Even if the obsolete discs avoid landfills by ending up at Salvation Army stores... Isn't the valuable plastic going into these discs basically what will bring our Mother Earth and any visiting Na'vi to tears?

Or is it like PETA's President?  The one that says you can't use animal-testing-derived products, but she can because it's more important that she lives so that she can tell you not to use animal-testing-derived products?  Better to fill the nation's landfills with Avatar BDs & DVDs in an effort to somehow tell you to not fill the nation's landfills?

Oh, I see.  So "The Path to Hell is laid by Good Intentions?" not really in your world view?

Remember Anakin was 'seduced' by the Dark Side.  I think, in life, whether you're a hard criminal, a white collar crook, a software/movie pirate, a timecard cheat, or any other normal fallible human- the wrongs we commit are often because we convince ourselves that we are in the right to make them.  Even if it is clear to everyone else (and our subconscience) that we are not.

Missing Scenes which might have improved the saga.
Time

How about the scene at the end of ANH that goes like this:

LUKE: Well Princess, that sure was a sweet Celebration ceremony!
LEIA: Thanks!  You didn't think the cardboard soldiers were too much?
LUKE: No, no... In fact, you can't even tell unless you're walking past them.
LEIA: Thanks, Luke.  You are too kind.
LUKE: Well!  I guess it's time to turn in.  Come on, Threepio and Artoo.  Let's go!
LEIA: Oh...
LUKE: Yes, Princess?
LEIA: Um... Luke?  Don't take this the wrong way...  I'm very grateful to you for rescuing me from the Death Star and then blowing it up...  but...
LUKE: Yes, Princess?
LEIA: Well... where are you taking my droids?
LUKE: Your droids?
LEIA: Yes, my father gave me those droids on my 12th birthday.
LUKE: Oh, I see.  My uncle bought me these droids right before he died and it's the only thing I have to remember him by...
LEIA: Luke, I understand.  I have very little to remember my father, my family or my planet by...
LUKE: ...
LEIA: ...
LUKE: How about I keep Artoo and you can have Threepio...
LEIA: That sounds fair.
LUKE: (until we're married, and then they'll both be ours!)
LEIA: What was that?
LUKE: Nothing.  Good night, Princess.

I want to start a Movie Set Museum
Time

I sort of had this waking dream while looking at my "365 Days - Creating the Worlds of Star Wars" book on my desk.  Looking at the MilFal Cockpit  on page 64 reminded me of being a kid and sitting in a 747 (or something) cockpit at the children's museum.  That was kind of cool, but how cool would it be to sit in the cockpit of the gol' derned Millennium Falcon???  And I want to have my picture taken looking out the window of a Star Destroyer, and I want my picture taken being lowered into the carbonite chamber, and hanging off of the antenna under cloud city, etc...

At first I thought I wanted to start a Star Wars museum... but then I remembered all of the other scenes I wanted my picture taken in...  A couple years back I went to the "Fox Studios Baja" park, which is where they've stashed a lot of sets from Titanic, X-Men and a few others.  THAT was actually pretty cool.  They have a "submarine" set where you can dress up in Navy uniforms, they put fake blood and bruises on you, and then they shoot a scene with you too.

Seriously, we should be doing this with all old movie sets for at least a little while before burning them.  I know Peter Jackson has the Shire in storage... maybe I should give him a call.
