was gonna get the original Left 4 dead as well but from what i've read 2 is the new improved version.

Hmm, I actually still like the first Left 4 Dead a lot more than the second one.

I'm a little ticked/glad (is that possible?) to hear you say that.  I've only played the first scene and the start of the second in L4D2 (and the demo level) and I have to say that I wasn't blown away in any way by L4D2 when compared to L4D1.  You said it in your post, but I <snipped> it- I do like the variation in the finales so far... but with all of their variation, they seem to be less epic than the big finales of L4D1.  The new SIs are cool, but I'm glad they've just been added to the mix as opposed to replacing the original 4 (which I assumed they had done) because it gives the whole thing a nice variety.  But if I had to choose the 4 in L4D versus the 4 new ones in L4D2, I think I'd stick with the original ones.

Well, actually, I kind of take the whole thing as a package deal and somewhat consider them one game in my mind.

Yeah, that's the thought I'm having so far too.  Which we're not supposed to think, because Valve very forceful told the gamers "this is not more L4D1, this is a whole new game- stuff we couldn't have done as updates and DLC for L4D1."  And some of the most stingy unbelievers seem to have been converted upon trying L4D2.  I guess for me, after seeing what they've done to Burnout Paradise... I don't believe anyone who says that they can't technically do "it" as a patch or as DLC.  Maybe it's a financial reason, and that's reality too... but don't tell me it's technical.

Most things on the xbox (or PS3 for that matter) don't render at anything higher than 720p.  If your console is set to 1080p, it just video scales the render to whatever your settings are at.  (There are games on both systems that render at 1080p, it's just that the majority are at 720p)

But if you set your TV below 720p, the game might render some objects (like text, or HUD graphics) a little larger in comparison to the rest of the scene... so you might find that works better on your 19" monitor... unless you're just sitting 3 or 4 feet away from the monitor.

C3PX is right, Warbler.  You're only going to get out of your single-man duldrums if you pull yourself out... no one else is going to do it.  Take your fate into your own hands, go and rob a bank if you have to (maybe that could be your date... it doesn't cost anything as far as I can tell) get some cash and start asking.  The worst they can do is say no.  And laugh at you.  Or maybe stab you...  But they'll probably say yes.

Get started today!

As long as you see Inception.  ;)

Ah, so that's why.  He was wondering about that in another thread.

And like I said, the party I went to last night wasn't quite as sexy as that.  A lot of clothes-trying, painting, and drinking (although I didn't), and a few visible bras, but, other than that...

There is no lingerie in space...

So, I conclude that your party was not in space.  Nor was it... IIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNN  SSSSSSSSPPPPPPPPAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCEEEEE!

I don't think that this is a problem with the Bible itself, but rather the intentions a reader brings with him when reading the Bible.  If you go in looking for justification for your actions, you are likely to find it, even if it means ignoring the rest of the text.

Yes.  This is my experience as well.

BUT, the Passion Play, and specifically the lines from Matthew have been used repeatedly for two thousand years to whip people into a frenzy to murder Jews with impunity. Vatican II and all the lengthy explanations about who really killed Christ (or why Christ died or this and that) don't change the actual history of bloodshed.

So when Gibson's movie comes out in our wonderful modern post-racial era and repeats what for twenty centuries has been real bad news for the Jews, and makes 600 million dollars, I can understand the Jews not being happy with the state of affairs.

If for the next two millennia people show Shindler's List and then go out and murder Germans, I'll be sympathetic to them the next time it gets remade. Until then I don't really see a comparison.

Can you offer any examples of Jews being murdered linked to Passion Plays or Mel Gibson's movie?  I still have a hard time believing this one.  Does the number of murders of the Jewish people go up at the Easters?

But let's take a look at this comparison. Are you comparing NAZI's potentially being upset about portrayals of real history vs JEWS being upset about the bits of the Gospels that has been responsible for 2000 years of persecution, murder and genocide?

*whew* This feels like something of a loaded question, so I'm going to try to step lightly here.

I am comparing modern Germans being upset by someone saying that Nazis were Germans with modern Jews being upset by someone saying that some of the people responsible for killing Christ were Jews.

I guess I don't really buy that the New Testament has been responsible or "the source" for persecution of the Jews.  The Old Testament is full of stories of people not liking the Jews too, so some of that rhetoric pre-dates Christ, or the writing down and widespread distribution of the Gospels.

I lived in Albania for 2 years, and I can tell you that (most) Albanians hate the Serbs and (most) the Serbs hate them right back.  They're raised that way.  When asked, "Oh Albanian, why do you hate the Serbs?" they say among other things, "We are Muslim, they are Christian.  Therefore we hate them."  And vice-versa for the Serbs.  But then you say, "Oh Albanian, do you hate your Albanian neighbour, who alos practises Christianity?"  And they would say, "Of course not!  He is Albanian, just like I am!"  Therefore, Religion is used as a point to explain why they hate each other, not the actual cause.  I think there isn't a real reason why Albanians and Serbs hate each other.  They just do.

Likewise, I don't really think that people hate Jews because of the New Testament.  They hate Jews because they want to hate Jews.  They might say that the New Testament gives them license to hate them, but it is not responsible or the source of their hatred.

That would make a good thread.  You post a movie you haven't seen, and everyone berates you for it.

Not just any movie you haven't seen... the last movie you haven't seen.

exactly as I have written it.
