Dark Knight Rises - Now that we know the cast

Regarding Apes;  1968 original only for me.

I'm just shocked.  Simply Shocked!

Escape is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me.  I'll watch it if I happen to stumble across it on cable.

It was actually introduced to me, by my father, as something of a "spoof", and not an actual full fledged member of the series.  It is funnier than the other films (right up until the happy ending!) but not "spoof wacky", if you know what I mean...  Either he didn't know, or he didn't tell me, but I was shocked a few years later to find that there was a #4 and a #5.  I thought 1 and 2 were it with a "what if?/non-continuity" Escape movie.  For Fun.

Man, I was so excited for the Burton film.  I'm still mad about that.  :(

Regarding the Batman title; I'm with Boost on this one.  Rise has been worn out.  I'm surprised they weren't more inventive. Truth be told,  I have that same feeling about Catwoman & Bane.  But we'll see.  Nolan may surprise me and pull one out of a hat.

Still hoping for the title to change.

My kids really like Chipmunks for some reason.  We've been watching a lot of Alvin and the {}... Christmas Specials, Valentines Specials, Special Specials, Cartoons, Movies, Soundtracks you name it.  The only things as popular as Chipmunks were probabaly the Chipettes.

Costco had all of the 90's Disney Afterschool Cartoon DVD sets on sale for $8.99 last year and we bought all of the ones we didn't already have.

We're talking:
DuckTales V.3
TailSpin V.1&2
Darkwing Duck V.1&2
and yes...
Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers V.1&2

So the kids got Rescue Rangers v.1 for Christmas.  And man, my house has had no end of problems for the Rescue Rangers to solve since then.  Everyday I come home to find that Fat Cat is up to something new.

Ah, to be young again, eh?

P.S. It seems that former favourite Alvin can't hold a candle to Chip.  And how could he?  He's part Indiana Jones?

We just watched the Lester/Salkind Three and Four Musketeers.

And the fight choreography... is weird.  I'm not sure if it's intentional, or perhaps a bunch of actors refusing to take sword fighting lessons, but they are, to use the words of my wife, "total spazzes" in the fights.  It's possible it's more realistic than the slick choreography of today's films... but it looks really random and that basically the good guys win out of sheer luck.

I LOVE the fight choreography in these movies. It's messy, and dirty, and you win out of sheer gusto rather than excellent choreography.

No doubt there are many master swordfighters throughout history, but I'm willing to wager that a good portion of swordfights were more like in these movies than they were like "The Princess Bride."

You might win one fight that way... but...

Well, it reminds me of the interchange between Old Zorro and Zorro Jr. in The Mask of Zorro regarding swordplay...

OZ : Do you know how to use that thing? (referring to the sword)
ZJr: Yes!
OZ: ...?
ZJr: The pointy end goes into the other man.
OZ: *sigh*(Oy vey!  We have a lot of work to do!)

Saw Inception a second time last month, really didn't enjoy it at all on the repeat viewing. Weird. Really loved it the first time.

That is weird.  It's also not helping the cause.  So.... IGNORE!

Last movie seen: the Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes and after watching the recent BBC series Sherlock, I felt it really paled in comparison. Though in all fairness, I don't think I would have enjoy it much even if I hadn't watched the other first. Not really my kind of flick. And Downey Jr. simply doesn't fit the character of Sherlock in my mind at all!

The oddest bit about GR's/RDJr's SH to me was- the movie itself left me rather 'meh', but somehow it made me interested to see a sequel.  Can't really understand how that works.

All BS2 DLC is half off for a couple days starting today.  All DLC except for a Multiplayer Character pack for some reason.

I'm mildly tempted to get the Rapture Metro map pack, but I just read that since there's no DLC specific playlist, the game will only use the DLC maps if the entire party (more or less randomly selected) has the maps- which is practically impossible.

Rumor was they were going to create said playlist... but at this point in time, it is doubtful.  They should just make the DLC (which is almost a year old, at this point) a mandatory (read: Free) update for playing online so that the people that paid for it can finally enjoy it.  Assuming they can enjoy it knowing that they should have never paid for it since they weren't able to enjoy it until it went free.

Y'know?

But Protector trials- 6 small maps, each with 3 variations on weapons/plasmids.  The scenario: pick up the little sister, set your traps, hack your machines, and when you're ready- start the Adam harvest and fend off the waves of splicers.  If the splicers kill you, game over.  If they attack your little sister, it slows down the harvest- giving you a poorer score.  Each splicer you kill gives you money to buy more ammo, eve, health at the vending machines.  Each round lasts about 5 minutes or so...  The reward for completing them is a few looks at some Behind the Scenes material- abandoned story boards, concept art, etc...

For 200 points, I say you can't go wrong.

And- HOW DARE YOU LOAN OUT YOUR COPY OF BS2!?!?  DON'T DO THAT EVER AGAIN!

P.S. Some other 2K content on sale, like Borderlands DLC for 50%.  Also, looks like it's time for me to buy some more Burnout Paradise DLC since it all just got a (temporary?) price drop.

*patiently waiting for Gaffer and Warbler and Perhaps Sluggo to chime in about Inception*

We just watched the Lester/Salkind Three and Four Musketeers.  I really liked these 20 years ago... now I can't really understand what there was to like.  And the overt 70s... erm... looseness of all of the main characters seems really odd now.  D'Artagnan spends a lot of the movie proclaiming his love for Constance while sleeping with every chambermaid he meets while trying to rescue the love of his life.  I can't remember... but that's not really a part of the book, right?  The first two movies are rated PG and there's not really anything specific that would warrant a higher rating... but you can tell these movies really want to be R.

In conclusion, these are coming off my shelf and going straight onto the forsale pile.  Hopefully I can get $75 out them like I did Tron.

Rejected Prequel Titles

So, I'm stealing these from 1997ish RASSM:

But they're pretty funny.  See if you can make some new ones:

VERY Catchy.  I like them.

Previously, Elson Trinidad <el...@westworld.com> just happened to
mention:

>They will be titled as such:

>Episode I : An Oldest Hope
>Episode II: An Older Hope
>Episode III: An Old Hope

>Now, when we get to Episode IV, the title makes so much sense...

Well it makes more sense if they were:

Episode I   : A hope
Episode II  : The same hope
Episode III : That same hope once again

Episode IV  : A new hope!!

Inertia,
-=< Anyone wanna guess what 7,8 and 9 are going to be?  That hope returns? >=-

No,no,no its going to be:

Star Wars 1
Star Wars 2
Star Wars with a vengance

Ah, no.  This is the first episode of the *prequels*.

How about "No Hope" or "the End of Hope"

Or "A Brief Loss of Hope"

Or "Only Ben and Yoda Know that There is Still Hope"

Just a few suggestions...

Meg

Look, the names of the Star Wars Prequels are:-

Episode 1: Land Wars
Episode 2: The Rebels Strike Back
Episode 3: Return of the Dark Jedi

OK?

These are not good titles. "In the Beginning" sounds an awful lot like
Genesis 1:1. The Clone Wars is redundant: Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Genesis of a Star Saga sounds like a soap opera and is more appropriate
for a prequel to Independence Day. Genesis of the Force is inaccurate,
as the Force is an ancient religion, not conjured up 40 years before
ANH. The Seeds Sown=As the World Turns. Genesis of Evil: as if evil
began 40 years before ANH. Enter the Dark Lord sounds like a stage
direction. Fall of the Republic has been circulating for 15 years. I
doubt Lucas would use this title made up by John Flynn. Rise of the
Empire is not too bad, but Empire was used in Episode 5 and I doubt
Lucas would confuse the public with similar titles. Collapse of the Jedi
is incredibly stupid. They did not collapse, they were exterminated! The
title makes them sound as if they were a bunch of doddering old fools
with one foot in the grave.

Respectfully,
Chris

>I wouldn't mind something as bland as "The Old Republic".

I agree with you.  We don't need any 'crusaders' or 'balance' or
'genesis' in the prequel titles.

Here's What I'd like to see

Episode one:  Fall of the Republic

Episode two:  The Clone Wars

Episode three:  Luke and Liea's wacky, wild escape from the big, bad
Dark Jedi ;^)

> best.  This is how it ought to be:
> Episode 1 :   Anakin Vs The Volcano
> Episode 2 :   Things to do in Degobah when you're Dead
> Episode 3 :   What's Eating Greedo Grape?

1 - Ben and Anakin's Excellent Adventures
2 - Lars Attacks!
3 - Night of the living Jedi

Episode 1 : The Jedi Who Walked Up A Hill And Fell Into A Volcano
Episode 2 : Fast Times In Dagobah High
Episode 3 : Don't Be A Menace To The Good Side While Drinking Your
Juice In The Hood

etc...

I constantly quote the emperor's lines from ROTJ. I like taking the remote control and putting it on a channel that nobody likes only to say:

"You want this....don't you."

I say this to my kids all of the time.  Especially when they're really little.  It works great with pacifiers.  You hold it out in front of their face until they lock eyes on it:

ME: You want this... don't you?
HIM: ...
ME: Take your baby binkey!  Strike me down with it!  THEN!  Your journey to the Dark Side will be complete!
HIM: ...
ME: ...
HIM: .....  <WWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH>
ME: (looking offscreen) Honey?!  He wants you!

Yay for RASSM!

Those were the days.

EDIT: Thanks for finding this wayback machine, none.  I used to read RASSM for hours a day back in this time period and it's really bringing some memories back.  And to everyone else, I offer apologies for filling the forum with content from 14 years ago.

Protector Trials are cool because they force you to play with specific weapon/plasmid combos.  I don't know about you, but once I found weapons/plasmids that I liked, I never really strayed too far from them.

There's supposed to be a 2k sale starting tomorrow, and BS2 is supposed to have some content on sale... so maybe the Protector Trials will be on sale.  I think I got them for 200 pts last time they were on sale.  For that you can't go wrong.  But they are no Minerva's Den.  :(
