Interesting indeed, but kind of rips the heart out of Star Wars...which was sooo much more science "fantasy", it truely needs that element to complete the illusion.

Definitely interested! I have several cartridges...and are pretty familiar with the ones I don't have anymore. I seriously doubt there was any alternate footage. They didn't plan on making these...only when the film was so successful did they go ahead, so I doubt they were working with temp footage or anything other than a super 8 print.
Gotcha Moth...thanks for connecting the dots..! Sure would be nice if Lucas/Disney would just release every last frame on a BlueRay for the die hards.

@Joel, that trailer was the first ESB release trailer...with the RSO soundtrack snipe at the end.
Not only that...but Vader doesn't have to worry himself with the details of his Destroyer being "prepared for his arrival"...that's below him. He wants one thing, to get out of Cloud City..hence "bring my shuttle". Also as mentioned, the flow of that building momentum was screwed.

Interesting. Creative choices through difference mixes are easy to at least understand. I would still love to know why Chewie's sounds are missing from Han's entrance into the Hoth medical bay.

Chewie's noises are all missing. I'm beginning to think this was a FOX in house made custom audio mix..in all likelihood NOT by Ben Burtt...keeping in mind that it would probably be played through one speaker...and what we're hearing are perhaps accidental omissions.
Wow, it's gonna be great to see the laser fire from that opening sequence look like it used to. Can't wait for a screening on my projector. YES, planning a get together with cousins when this is complete. My son is turning 4...this is what I'll use to show him STAR WARS for the first time.

I remember that...and some VCRs connections couldn't even play the tape...forget about copying it. I of course tried to copy it just to see if I could...lol. I could not at the time. I did copy STAR WARS tapes prior to that and had success.
Okay, Gotcha - not necessarily the GOUT soundrack, simply one that's been GOUT-synced. Thanks for clearing that up.
Hey guys. If it comes down to having to match audio with this amazing project, please remember that the GOUT audio is NOT THE ORIGINAL theatrical soundtrack. It's from the '93 Definitive Collection with lots of additional sound effects...Alderaan asteroids, "glass" fx during the detention center, etc... I hope that IF there's a necessity to go elsewhere for the soundtrack, that it won't be the GOUT. Any laserdisc release before would be more accurate.
I am INCREDIBLY excited about this project. I have a projector set up, and typically have to blow up one of the excellent fan recreations. Looking forward to an actual capture...which is most of our holy grails. Nothing wrong with dirt as it gives it a true film like "screening" experience. To echo Puggo's observation, the film was pristine when it was first released...repeated reissues beat those prints up, but not in the beginning.
