Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time
I watched the scene, and I admit that I thought they moved a bit much initially. However, Harmy's work is a restoration of the original print release. It is possible (given the corroboration of the 16mm PG dupe) that some prints may have had the shake, while others, like what Ginge saw, may not. I would be for toning the shake down, but I realize that they were that shaky on at least one print, so I am OK with them as they are. As far as noticing them, I think that we are picking them up subconsciously because we know that they were changed. I'll try showing it to some other people tonight and see if they notice.

Why all the hate towards Memorex? Not doubting any of it, but their commercials used to be (obviously) pro-Memorex over other brands.

I don't understand why you would use a commercial as a defense of a brand at the same time you say it's obvious the commercial would be pro- that brand.

Obviously, commercials mean nothing.

No, you are entirely correct. The matter I was trying to get at is specific problems with Memorex, that has obviously (according to red5) been occurring since long before the move to CD and DVD.

I just thought it was interesting, that's all, that any company could get away with saying how superior their product is without any real attempt to back it up, and with clear discontent on the consumer end.

I've never had any problems, but I'm not that picky about what I use. Heck, I'll even use Aviva! :)

Is there some trend of Memorex=Junk? I'm not asking rhetorically or sarcastically, either.

(This is moved over from the Harmy DE thread.)

Song Of The South - many projects, much info & discussion thread (Released)

Now it says on the listing that it is an IB print, and will never fade, but the colors look rather washed out to me.

When I color-corrected mine, I looked at some 35mm nitrate film frames for reference, but I don't know how accurate my color transfer is.

Also, I didn't say it in my original post, but if anyone wants a copy of this for completion, just let me know. It is my favorite movie, and I would be more than happy to share it with others! :)

Just for giggles (and to teach myself VDub) I pulled out my PAL VHS tape of SotS. I realize that it is not the measure for quality, as I believe the Mentor cap has replaced it. Nonetheless, I spent some time playing with the contrast and RGB ratios. Here are some screencaps. What do you guys think?

Um, can someone send me an invite to myspleen, the jdownloader doesn't seem to work for me. Also, why hasn't someone uploaded this to tpb or any other torrent site?

Dark_Jedi or WalkingDork can give you an invite to Myspleen if you PM them. Jdownloader was working for me, but not as well as the torrents were when I finally downloaded them.

As the original poster of the comment that started the whole firestorm, he does have a point. I foolishly compared this project with his, when one is an HD source and the other an SD source. I posted before I read the specs on his project (a noob mistake) and incorrectly assumed the two were comparable. Yes, he was defensive, but rightly so.

edit: I see you were referring to the Harmy edition being a fan edit, and I agree that name has a definite negative connotation.

@DarkJedi: Sorry if my comment crossed the line. I realize that you and Harmy are working from two different sources, and that differences in resolution and color are inherent. I hope that you don't avoid this thread or delay your Blu-ray set because of my comment.

That said, I prefer the Harmy "fan edit," if that's what we are calling it, just as I prefer the H_H 70mm audio "recreation." I realize both aren't exactly what would've been projected in theaters, but IMHO they are very, very close.

I also agree that the main reason we are here is to have copies of the Original Trilogy without the SE junk - which both Harmy and DarkJedi have accomplished. Thanks to both of them for their hard work.

Just finished watching this Despecialized Edition, and all I can say is "Wow." You probably realize this, but for curiosities sake I did an AB with the V3 and the regular SE, and yours blows them both away! You can see things in your edit that are not visible in the other versions. The clarity and color is awesome! Why doesn't Lucas hire you?!

Thanks so much! This is the perfect Original Trilogy! :)
