Ask the member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints AKA Interrogate the Mormon
Time

@Darth_Ender: While C3PS is certainly not tip toeing around, he's just asking questions and follow up questions. The only one I see getting defensive or sensitive is you. That's completely understandable since you are putting yourself in a vulnerable situation by having your faith dissected by people trying to understand how you can be believe the things you believe. That being said, you do seem to be trying to turn that around on C3PS.

no big deal, he's a big boy and can handle it, just saying...

The thread where we make enemies out of friends, aka the abortion debate thread
Time

My black lab is more of a person than any zygote, I assure you. But I understand the question. Why do some liberals get wild about animal rights but at the same time are pro-choice?

Okay so here's my attempt to answer your question (keep in mind that I am not a crazy animal rights person. As a liberal living in Wisconsin I fish/hunt/kill ants/etc): There are plenty of laws to prevent humans from being abused or killed. In comparison there are very few laws that protect animals. So for people who love specific (or all) animals they want laws to protect those animals as well. Only the very extreme animal rights activists believe animals have more value than humans.

But that's just their view on animals. It's completely possible to want to protect animals AND be pro woman's choice. It's not about comparing the life of and animal to that of an unborn child.

The Mystery of Bob Ross
Time

I've been watching the second season of Bob Ross' show and I have all the seasons except the first. I don't think his show has ever been released commercially (ever) so if some of you are interested I could point you in the right direction.

I have to agree with the ideas in some of twisters pics above. He does some things that I just completely disagree with ("WHY?!? IT WAS FINE THE WAY IT WAS!") but he will eventually make it work and blow my mind. His ways are higher than my ways. Plus it helps that I am usually high when I watch his shows. ;)

computer help for a dumby

First of all, this might not be the best forum to ask about AVI files you downloaded. ;)

But before this thread gets deleted I'll try to offer some advice. Try to identify the codec used in the AVI. There is a program called Gspot that is pretty good with identifying codecs. If you can't figure it out I would ask how to play the files from your "buddy."

RIP Whitney Houston

I don't get why I should care. People die all the time, that's life. Unless the person had a profound effect on your life, there is absolutely no obligation to care.

You can set your watch by it. Every time someone famous dies there's the "why should I care?" holier-than-thou post.

I don't see it as holier than thou. People die all the time and if I tried to care/grieve for even half of them, I would end up killing myself. I've never met Whitney Houston, I don't know anyone who is associated with her in anyway. I probably enjoyed some song at some point in her life but I never was a big fan. So when she died, I said something along the lines of, "Really? huh," and that was it. I see know reason to care beyond that. If her family is said, I feel for them, but the fact that someone who I don't know died doesn't make me care. I can only care about the living in that case (like her family).

When Princess Di died, I was too young too much about her beyond her social status and that others held her in high regard. So when she died, I watched the news, thought about it for a moment, and then went on with my life. I don't think I'm holier than thou for not caring beyond that.

Sorry, I'm super high, and that was way too long.
